A Superb Owl MMP

Howdy all. Happy VD day to everyone. Sonnyboy bought me flowers and cooked a great dinner. Fried chicken plus other stuff. He also made a nanner pudding but I didn’t partake yet.

My sister and her husband have a wintertime home in Davenport Fl. It’s a bout 74 miles from me but a two hour drive. I shall make that drive in the morning to visit. It’s been years since I’ve seen them. I don’t want to go but go I must. She is my oldest sister and if my math is correct she is 80.

Stay happy, healthy and safe everyone.

No, she wouldn’t know how to do that. Their voice mail is the generic answer from the provider. And she always erased any messages, so she doesn’t have him saved. She claims there are people who only call on his number, tho I never hear it ring. And actually, she had FCD swap cards between their 2 phones, so she’s using his. I think she’s just really reluctant to let him go yet.

Tomorrow is Money Guy appointment. FCD and his mom will do something with the house sale proceeds. He’ll also talk with him about our annuities. I don’t know when I have to start withdrawing or how much. Nor do we know when his matures. But tomorrow we will.

Nods. Today my phone showed me a pic from 2 years ago. It was Steve. I cried. We all grieve in our own ways and on our own schedule.

There are thunderboomers happening now. Steve was so happy to be a house cat for the last years of his life and the poor guy was terrified of loud storms. He would hear them start and come and sit on my feet until I sat down and made a good lap, then he would crawl up me and wrap his legs around my neck and nuzzle his head under my chin. And then purr.

I am so happy GG looks nothing like Steve. I’ll never have another Steve and if GG was a ginger boy, I would probably resent him for not being Steve.

I should mention the cake was not part of the original meal. I made it, cause, well, cake! Cake is always good. OK, I wanted cake. I like cake. Cake.

Nellie hmmm… we first started seein’ each other around June of 2006. We already knew each other, but I had another partner for quite a few years who left for what he thought was greener pastures. Turns out it was more like a burned out wasteland. HAH! Anywho, we saw each other at a party and well, things just kinda went from there. He sold his house and moved in da cave in 2015. We hitched up June first 2019. Now since we’re retired we kinda figure it’d be too much trouble to find anyone else so here we are. Romantic ain’t it!

GodBod yay for you and your valentine!

Actually, it really is. At the party part, I started singing “Some Enchanted Evening,” except I sang, “You will meet an ACQUAINTANCE across a crowded room.” I can’t sing worth a lick, so good thing you couldn’t hear me. Also, now that we know about the world’s most romantic VD dinner, you’ll never convince us that you aren’t.

VanGo, I didn’t hit a single Walk signal today. I have thus canceled out your streak o’ green, so you needn’t worry.

Thank you. It’s a true friend who will sit and worry with you! Normally, I wouldn’t have worried, but I went into absolutely ridiculous denial when I lost the vision in that eye (as in, “Maybe it’s done this before, and I forgot,” like you’d forget you went blind in one eye), and this pain was similar to that time, so I got gun-shy. It’s a little better now, and my vision is unchanged, so I’ve decided not to worry.

Somehow ice water isn’t the equivalent of a romantic cocktail. That place needs to up their V Day game.

Cupcake, that’s one wonderful son you’ve got there.

I don’t get over the worries that quickly, so I’ll just keep wishing that something would actually work for you.

I know! I’m willing to pay the money for a fancy drink that looks all foo-foo. Edible glitter was made for folks like me. They did have VD drinks but they didn’t have the fancy special look to them, so IWWL it was.

In other news, the woman who wanted the red butter says that the heart shaped butter pats and cherry cream cheese balls were very popular and we are going to die rich.

She thinks “we” should make green butter for St. Pats day. She also said something about mint cream cheese. There really isn’t enough weed in the world to get me high enough to agree to allow green butter to leave my creamery.

Shamrock shaped molds and cream cheese with organic chives is doable.

ETA: we aren’t going to die rich

Nellie, sorry, I missed about your eye. Sending good thoughts for a positive resolution.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

HAPPY HALF PRICE CHOCOLATE DAY!!

Morning, mumpers! It’s 7c/45f with a predicted high of 9c/49f, and partly cloudy. In weather-speak, that also means partly sunny. Weather app says “Enjoy this mild weather. Shitty, stupid weather will fucking soon be here again.”

I went grocery shopping last night with 'im indoors, which is of course a tremendously romantic thing to do especially when it involves an intense discussion in the cat food aisle about what you think a certain suddenly-very-picky feline will want to eat. Provisions were acquired, taken home and unpacked into their various storage places, and he made Thai curry for dinner 'cos it was his turn to cook.

I did buy some cheap-ish chocolate as the supply in the office is dwindling, and the guys here seem to thrive on sugar. They are a good bunch, and they work hard so I have no problem keeping them supplied with little sweet treats to keep everyone happy.

nellie sorry to hear about your eye, I hope you have some improvement soon.

JtC I forgot that you are a desert-dweller, you have some serious critters out there. We occasionally get meeses in the house that come courtesy of a cat, but aside from those and sometimes a bird (or part thereof), we get very little wildlife gifts.

Wolfpup thank you for the compliment! I am not much of a sports fan, but I do think owls are quite superb creatures

It’s very quiet in the office today, currently just me and one other person. There was a third but she’s gone out to a meeting so we won’t see her for a while. I’m glad it’s my last campus day for a while, I have had enough of the getting up at stupid o’clock in the morning to get here. I was not out of the house until 7am today though, and was very pleased to see that it’s much lighter so hopefully next week I’ll be able to go back to my usual walking route instead of having to mix with the Great Unwashed on the local bus.

I’m starting to wonder if scammers have a scam-du-jour page where they download the emails that I keep getting. Last week, they were all for $940, with identically-worded “invoices” about the iPhone or whatever I supposedly ordered. Today, it was $856.40 - I swear, there were at least 8 in my inbox, all with the same subject line, but sent from 3 or 4 different addresses (at least that’s all I saw on the list - I didn’t bother opening any of them.) I suspect if I’d hovered over the sender, I’d see that “Paypal” was using a gmail address or some such. It’s hard to believe people fall for this stuff.

Anyway, good morning!! No cheap chocolate for us - we’re trying to watch what we eat. Dammit. Not that I have time to rush to the store anyway. Tobias will be here within 90 minutes and I don’t expect to be kid-free till after 4 this afternoon. It’s supposed to get into the upper 60 - we’ll do the playground again, but this time, I’ll remember to shove some tissues in my pocket. Tobias was particularly snotty yesterday and all I had was the hem of my shirt. ick.

I will run by Food Lion after the kids go back to their mom - cucumbers are 2/$1 and I lurves me some cukes! I slice 'em and have 'em with my sammiches like other people have pickles. They’re just un-pickled pickles! Yum!

And that’s pretty much all I have planned as we begin the second half of the shortest month.

Happy Wednesday!!

Good morning all. Up and on coffee 2.0. 50F here, headed to 78 or so today.

Lots has happened at casa pullin.
Eldest is busy delivering people and supplies to Turkey, has made 3 round trips so far. Many more in the next month, but everything’s going smoothly (for him).

We celebrated valentine’s yesterday, but I had the wrong card. I liked the sentiments on it, but hadn’t noticed the very last line wishing my wife happy anniversary. She was OK, since the rest of the card was spot on.

Watched the Super Bowl and really enjoyed it. I used to pooh-pooh professional sports due to the lack of connection between players and city. A doper convinced me to view it strictly from the point of skill and I now watch some sports just to see the amazing level of play. So we settled in with cheese dip and salsa, and randomly chose which team to root for. Mine won!

Latest on the truck wreck saga. Insurance decided on settlement value (it was fair) and we’ve sent the title and other docs to them. I went by and personally released the carcass to the insurance (or whoever – a required part of the ritual), and said my sad good byes to it. If anyone remembers the auxiliary tank problem, I sold it to an OTR hot shot driver who paid my asking price. Yay! Now all I have is a few 5 gal tanks of diesel and some DEF in the shed left over. I’ll give this to the lawn guy which will close out our diesel ecosystem here and be gas-only. It was nice, but my wife likes not hearing jackhammer warfare every time I start my truck.

And… since we have our new tow vehicle for RV-ing, I completed all the reservations for a month-long trip covering Monument Valley, Arches, Dinosaur National Monument and Glacier National Park. I’m jazzed!

Hope everyone’s week is good (or gooder).

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 27 degrees and dark outside. The expected high is 47 with partly cloudy and sunny skies mixed for later in the day. The snow that fell yesterday was pretty much gone by late afternoon. I had some spots remaining in shady areas.

boofae, Polar is doing fine for an old man. Today I need to dash out to the vet to pick up his 'scrip for Rimadyl. He was very unhappy with my husband yesterday because he didn’t get to eat lunch at the same time as us. He woo-wooed, went outside to pout, and then came back in and woo-wooed some more until he got his sammich.

My husband surprised me with roses and Mexican food for lunch yesterday. Much like the Fairy Chats, we’ve always treated Valentine’s Day as any other day between us. We used to get the kids Valentine’s treats, but for us, it fell just a couple of weeks after our anniversary, so we didn’t see the need to make the day special. There were times throughout our 37-year marriage we made it a special day, but for the most part, it was just another day.

pullin, I’m glad the long truck saga is finally drawing to an end. May you never have to deal with something like this again.

nellie, I hope the eye keeps improving. I’d be freaked out too, given your history.

I had a message from my Dad saved on my phone and would listen to it whenever I especially missed him. Somehow, I no longer have the message, but it’s okay, I can still hear his voice in my head.

Other than the vet visit to pick up Polar’s prescription, I have nothing on the agenda except work which will be filled with meetings, and other silly stuff. As always, there is a lot going on, and I’m doing my damndest to try and keep all those balls in the air. I’m always afraid I’m going to drop one.

Time to finish my coffee and tidy the kitchen.

I hope you all have a great day!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 46 Amurrkin out and N.O.S. with a predicted high of 75 and mostly N.O.S. The big item on today’s agenda is to procure provisions. We don’t need much so it should be a quick trip. OYKW wants to hunt down some cheap chawklit, so he shall go do that whilst I go take care of provisions at the Pubic Sto’. I foresee our main feed to be N.O.L. with steak sammiches and the leftover shrimpies and spare guts. I’ll pick up some kind of good bread for the sammiches whilst at the sto’. Other than that we shall sloth and be our general overall useless selves.

Nellie here’s hopin’ your eye keeps improvin’. I’d be all worried as well, but then, I am a kind of major worrier.

Yanker glad things are finally closin’ on the truck saga.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, and bother, I suppose I must purtify and don attire appropriate for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Life is so difficult sometimes!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Today’s off to a grumpy start, between DH’s phone ringing before 0500 (dunno who it was or what it was about, he didn’t bother to go answer it) and his snoring keeping me from getting back to sleep. At least the Princess put in some snuggle time after DH’s phone shut up.

Got up, stepped in a cold hairball while turning on the living room light (can’t be sure who the culprit is, but I’ve honestly never seen/heard Buddy producing a hairball, despite grooming being his major hobby). At least it was on my desk chair mat, thus easy to clean, not on carpet.

Much rude commentary on Allie’s part when Buddy even wanders into her line of sight.

It’s going to be a day around here.

Hey all. Finally broke down and got some internet ($69 for 1GB) and since I don’t know how long it will last, this will be a bit short. Have quickly scanned the week so far, hugs, cheers, years and years as needed by all.

Currently I am cruising in the Drake passage between Antarctica and Ushuaia, Argentina and it will take until early on Friday before we are in port and I can start the long airline journey home. It was a challenging time and a bit frustrating (we had 2 days we could not land ashore due to 40-60 knot winds, but the last 4 days have been tremendous. Pictures will be forthcoming once I’m home and settled in.

We did see a bit of the Superb Owl game, then the Internet went wonky and we’d get about 5 seconds of action followed by 20 seconds of frozen screen. Gave up after the first quarter.

That’s all for now, am doing ok but looking forward to being home again.

All y’all take care.

Metal Mouse!! Welcome back!!

i’m starting pre painting prep for next week. i have been putting this off for quite some time as it means that i have to move 4 large book box cases (book cases from levenger); if i’m lucky and they can match the existing paint, if not, i have to move 6. hundreds and hundreds of books.

i have started to go through the books to do the “keep, give away” thing. i get through one stack of bookbox and start sneezing, stop; resume the next day, start sneezing, stop.

so far i gave a stack of crafting books to the craft club. i have another stack ready for them (they meet on monday). the tricky bit is what do i do with all the crossstitch patterns that i ripped out of magazines. i know i’m not going to do them but they are too nice to toss in recycling.

rocking scan the cross stitch patterns and save on your computer. You can print them out if you ever need them. I don’t have a scanner. I use the one at the public liberry, but I’m sure you could get them scanned at Office Max, etc.

Wind advisory until noon. The garbage cans have blown over and my light up snowman was ripped out of the front porch socket. Guess I will put him back in the garage

I’m glad you had some good days–more are coming! We couldn’t land at our first two ports due to wind, and the captain decided to outrun the worst of it across the Drake, in which we experienced hurricane force winds. After that it was lovely, though! :penguin: :penguin: :penguin: :penguin: :penguin: :penguin: :penguin: :penguin: :penguin: :penguin: :whale:

So we went a whole hour and ten minutes before the breakdowns started(machinery, not mental or emotional. Although I wouldn’t put it past some of my coworkers.
Also:
:cheese:  :football: :cow2: HAPPY NATIONAL WISCONSIN DAY!!! :cow2::football:  :cheese:
Go tip a cow. Or have 5 brandy Old Fashioneds, and tip over in front of a cow.

Nice

Hope the eyeball is better today, nellie
