A Superb Owl MMP

I went to college near Philly so a tiny part of me was rooting for the Eagles, but I’m not much of a football fan and did not watch Sunday’s game. Bailey and I watched some of the ever-adorable Puppy Bowl, though. Sunday started with a volunteer event at a local church; I was there from 9am-12:30pm. I wound up being out much later than expected Saturday night (yacht rock cover band show), but had a ton of fun – although because I couldn’t sleep in the next day (or yesterday), I’m still not 100% recovered yet. I may have a baby face, but times like this are when I know I’m in my 50s.

I’m a bit slammed this week, and this weekend is going to be a blur due to the jazz festival I’ll be attending, but I wanted to pop in and say hi to everyone!

Yay! :tada:

Taking the day off to be with the tree guys while Wifey, RN is out visiting patients. I tried to log into irk this morning (despite it being a vacation day) and couldn’t connect. Apparently there had been a power failure in Burien, so my computer had to be restarted. Eventually got on, answered a question, and then went back to my day off.

I gave Mrs. L.A. a Valentime’s Day card this morning, and a gift box with four of those expensive truffles she likes. She says she’s taking us out to the Schnitzel house for dinner tonight.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

And that’s the amount of celebration around here. Hubby and I don’t do anything to mark the day.

Worked, and when we got home I started a carrot cake so hubby has something for breakfast. Dinner was leftover chicken enchiladas - major yum.

Need to continue working on the Red Velvet Bailey’s - should taste even better, now that my tongue has recovered from yesterday’s dentist trip.

i forgot it was valentine’s day. i did not wear any special valentine attire. now to wait another year. le sigh.

Wow! Found my guitar tablature books from when I was taking lessons back before covid. I haven’t really picked up my guitar since that all started; guess my heart just wasn’t in it. Since the move, everything has been pretty jumbled up, but somehow the music surfaced out of the mayhem. Now I just need to get my fingers toughened up again. I also had the presence of mind to video all those years of lessons, so they’re available as well.

Howdy Y’all! We managed laundry and even put it all where it goes after it’s all washed and dryed. Go Us! Other than that, it has been the usual sloth and general overall uselessness. We did have a glass of champagne out on the back porch a bit ago as it is a N.O.S. 73 Amurrkin out and so nice! I shall soon start the makeage of sup.

Thus is the news from swampland.

I found my Beginning Blues Guitar book yesterday. I haven’t picked up any of my guitars in almost a decade.

I wen to the Post Office and had my passport photo taken. The woman stapled it, and the check to the DS-82 (renewal application) and paper-clipped my current passport to it. I have a Priority Mail envelope, and the woman said my wife can send her stuff in in the same envelope as mine.

The tree is cut down, and I have my grubby jeans on. I’ll have one more cuppa joe before I move the logs to the back yard. Might start raking the chips, too. Or I might not. How do you like them apples?

I don’t even remember the last time I opened my guitar case. I was self taught and never any good at it. I am pretty certain fifty years of working with my hands stacked up with old guy arthritis has halted my chances of becoming the new Johnny Winter…

*Moooooooom, after my mom passed, Dad kept her phone around. Eventually, he gave it to one of my nieces.

Happy Valentine’s day everyone!

Irked, came home, walked the dog and et. Such excitement!

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Sup got cooked and ingested. 'Twas soooooo good if’n I do say so myself. Plus there’s cake and chawklit covered strawberries to come! Neither of us finished our steak and there’s also leftover spare guts and shrimpies. I foresee steak sammiches with shrimpies and spare guts for tomorrow’s big feed. Two meals for the price of one, even!

This meal is the first one I ever made for OYKW. Didn’t think he’d remember that and I did not mention this, but he told me he remembered. I am flattered. Also, I reckon I’ll keep him around for a while longer.

Kids are returned. Supper has been ingested. Dishes are done. Chillage shall ensue.

The Schnitzel house opens at four, and it’ll take us half an hour to get there. I hope they’re not packed, what with VD and all.

You might be surprised at what you can do. I puttered around with it when I was young and, like you, put it aside for the next 50 years while I worked construction. I found a really patient and talented teacher who encouraged me to get past the arthritic pangs and to just do what I could, which is basically thumb and finger picking and strumming without a pick (as that causes pain). The other upside is that it helps strengthen the muscles supporting those arthritic joints. His mantra was “You can play anything if you do it slowly enough.”

As an occasional canine interloper here, I congratulate you on the sloth, Swampy, which I practice as well with faithful diligence. After some nominal retirement age like 65, sloth is both earned and respectable. And deserving of champagne!

And I must congratulate @scareyfaerie on the sheer poetic beauty of the thread title! At our country cottage when I was a kid we had both kids’ football games and also superb owls. The owls were quite rare, though. Much more frequent were the regular evening songs of the whippoorwill.

I may dig it out and give it a try, thanks

swampy, I think you and OYKW and my sister and her husband are all on the same page. They always start V Day with a champagne breakfast. For dinner, they have steak, bacon-wrapped shrimpies, and asparagus–and more champagne. Dessert is chocolate-covered strawberries. So pretty close! They’ve been married 48 years. (Yikes!) How long have you and OYKW been together?

red, when you have a dog, every day is Valentine’s Day because they adore you and give you kisses. So you got to walk with your not-so-secret admirer!

I’m glad you struggled through the BOM class despite the bad materials. There is a time and place for cheap fabric, but lessons are not one of them. Nothing will make someone quit enjoying something than having to fight through cheap materials while learning something.

Please remember that your adoring fans will want to see pics of the work in progress, along with your very handsome helper, of course.

She uses it to listen to his voice. I have messages from Dad, MIL and FIL saved, but I understand that I can transfer those messages to different phone (and did just that last week). She might not understand that giving up the phone won’t mean losing his voice, so refuses to give it up.

Be very careful, that sounds like all your good luck for the week!

Honestly…this is concerning me. There are meeses living somewhere, hence the unwelcome visitors. Rodents attract snakes. Snakes can easily climb up brick walls and through lattice if they want to. We have bull, king and rattlesnakes out this way and they are all very important to the desert ecology. I do not want them cat killed, which has happened in the past.

Hubs is going to have some clear plexiglass cut so we can put 2/3 meter high walls around the base of the catio, outside the lattice. As I have my doubts about this plan, I bought a little plastic kiddy pool and put it out on the other side of the yard. It has rocks and water and a couple of pieces of cord hanging into the water to use as escape ladders, so hopefully will be more attractive to the wildlife than breaking into a cage filled with excitable obligate carnivores.

Wow, I so miss working! NOT, LOLOL!!!

I hope the funeral goes well. I’d tell you to have fun…but funeral, so yeah.

Awwwwww!!!

Hubs bought me a heart shaped box of chocolates again this year. He did it last year too. I think he’s up to something cause he never used to buy me chocolates. Heck, it’s been almost 40 years and I can still remember that time he sent me flowers, LOL!

 :joy:

thank you for the no details part, but I will worry about it with you. You are the expert, if you are concerned, it is cause for everyone to worry.

That is so romantic! Hubs doesn’t mention the first meal I made for him because he loves me and doesn’t want to embarrass me. I’ve gotten much better over the years!

Our housekeeper was here today so we went into town for breakfast. Cracker barrel has a whole new menu with higher prices (no surprise there). When we were there around Christmas, they had a cranberry and something cocktail that had glitter and whole cranberries floating in the glass. It looked very pretty and festive, so I looked at their drink menu to see if they had a fancy VD drink. They did not, so I just drank my usual ice-water-with-lemon.

It snowed while we were in town and the ground was white about half the way home. It was rainy and sloppy when we got home and both of us ended up dancing around on the little entry way matt trying to take our boots off before we tracked up our nice shiny floors. Seeing as how we usually only dance together on 11/10 I’ll count this as a win.

Hey, the worst that can happen is “nah, I was right to give it up 50 years ago.”

Up from naptime. Watcing hockey, and drinking my Manhattan in the most posh manner possible. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yay!

I was wrong.

We didn’t go to Black Forest Steak House, known for its Schnitzel, in Everson. We went to Black Forest Steak House, known for its filet mignon, in Blaine. (Same family, but IAUTI that there’s some animosity.) I had bacon-wrapped filet mignon, and Mrs. L.A. had bacon-wrapped filet mignon Oscar (asparagus, sauce, and crab meat). We split a bottle of merlot, and we each had a Manhattan. At least, I’d ordered Manhattans. I think they were actually Old Fashioneds. Whatever. They were good. Of course, the deadcow was fantastic.

I’m having a Vieux Carré now. (Or I’m about to have a sip.)
