Well, we could all see him melting…
If he wants to appeal doesn’t he have to put up a bond equal to the amount of the judgement? I seem to remember that from the Trump E Jean Carroll case.
I hope so–isn’t a bond like 10% of the amount? No way he comes up with that.
You are probably be right – I’m not familiar enough with federal law to say. That would be hilarious. I do hope it’s true!
I long ago pegged Rudy as Most Likely to Commit Suicide before this whole arc of justice is completed.
Whatever way it goes, Rudy is fucked.
He’ll never pay a nickel. He has no money plus he’ll take a page out of his don’s playbook of delay delay delay and file appeal after appeal after appeal. Fucker can’t stop repeating the same debunked lies even after getting his hand slapped today. He’s evil and irredeemable.
Ruby said they aren’t done yet, that Rudy was not the only one who lied about her. Anyone know who else she might be talking about?
Whoever it is must be very nervous this evening.
At least one story I saw mentioned him selling a $6.5M apartment in the city, so I seriously doubt he is broke. If he has to wash dishes at Chez Cuillère Graisseuse for the rest of his pathetic existence to have his wages garnished for the settlement, that might be adequate recompense. Or he could use the Ken Lay escape clause.
As to appeal, that seems dubious. He refused discovery, which amounts to defaulting. His grounds for appeal in that case are all but non-existent.
Except for the amount of punitive damages. There are arguments that such large awards violate due process. I don’t agree with those arguments, but they are not frivolous given the current state of the law.
So that means he’s on the hook for the non-punitive damages? Or do they get stayed also?
They, apparently, are not exactly lining up to make cash+ offers:
I’m sure he’ll appeal all of it. But collection on the judgment only gets stayed if he posts a bond for the whole amount.
Top of that list would be trump, many tapes of him doing just that.
[reads headlines about verdict]
[goes to sit in the corner giggling uncontrollably]
I know, I can’t stop humming this:
The Specials - A message to you Rudy
"Stop your fooling around,
Time to straighten right out.
Better think of your future
Else you’ll wind up in jail.
Rudy,
A message to you, Rudy,"
$75 million was punitive so he’s on the hook for the rest. Sharpen the hooks.
He may be on the hook for all of it. And, if his arguments are accepted, they won’t eliminate the punitive damages, but it could reduce them.
I still can’t believe a Attorney with Rudy’s decades of practice would say something so obviously foolish.
Sure, he was a friend of Trump. But no attorney is going to willingly risk being charged with defamation. A 2nd year law student knows better than that.
I guess Rudy got swept up into Trump’s paranoia and now Rudy is on the hook for a massive settlement that can never be paid.
Does NY even have homestead protection? Will Rudy lose his primary domicile? It’s his stupid screw-up.
As I was saying…
So, several wrist slaps, and then a judgment of $140 freakin’ million!

With these judgements (c.f. Alex Jones) to whom does it fall to find the assets?
The plaintiffs’ lawyers will hire one of the most aggressive civil bailiff firms in New York city. (Which is saying something, I believe.) That firm will start digging through real estate titles, go through any records they can find of Rudy’s speaking engagements and previous consulting jobs, any books about Rudy, his television appearances, and so on - and slap liens on anything that has a connection to Rudy.
Then they go back to the firm with their report and lawyers in the firm start enforcing those liens.
I like it when a real lawyer steps in and confirms that this shitstain is really fucked.
