A Thread for the Mueller Investigation Results and Outcomes (Part 1)

Actually, this might be a tactical error by conservatives. They’ve declared a sham “investigation” over, yet the real investigation, with it’s drip, drip, drip of information, shall continue. Robert Mueller has bank accounts, witnesses, criminal convictions, interviews, wire taps (probably), and other things that can be corroborated. Devin Nunes has…a memo.

You know, modern Republican integrity is like a tiny ant next to pretty much any House Republican in 1974-ish.

The timing of GOP’s tacit support for Putin is interesting considering Putins’ not-so-subtle jab scapegoating Jews for subverting American elections. One has to wonder, at what point does someone like Sheldon Adelson or Alan Dershowitz finally slam their fist on the table and say they’ve had enough of being an Uncle Jacob. I’ve been warning conservative Jews for a while that Republican evangelicals are not their friends. One day that dog is going to turn around and bite them right in the balls. Underneath it all, there is some vicious antisemitism that lurks. It’s waiting to explode like a volcano. Some people need an American history lesson. For most of this country’s history, Jews have been viewed with suspicion and even outright contempt.

Yeah, they might be giving up the opportunity to stay as relevant as they have been. It’s not much, but it’s better than silence.

The memo was a real mistake. They seem to be doubling down on it.

I [del]think[/del] [del]speculate[/del] hope that they’re rushing to release this now because Nunes has learned that Mueller is about to lower the fucking boom, and they want to get their half baked defense out first. I saw an article today saying that Mueller may have wrapped up the obstruction case, or nearly so. Nunes may be trying to preempt the looming ass kicking with the defense that there was no underlying crime, so who cares about the obstruction. That will work with a certain number of people, but hopefully that number will be small.

Disclaimer: I’m talking out of my ass. But I’m really hoping to be driving to work tomorrow and NPR interrupts the Spring membership campaign to announce a shit ton of indictments.

…that he wrote himself. That’s the part I never understood-- why would anyone take that seriously? “I’ve scribbled something all over a piece of paper, and I won’t tell you what, because it’s SEEKRIT! This is the biggest news ever!” Yes, and why should we care?

It’s like the Bible; it’s true because the author says it is.

Devin Nunes has made Lil Trumpy soooo happy.
“THE HOUSE INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE HAS, AFTER A 14 MONTH LONG IN-DEPTH INVESTIGATION, FOUND NO EVIDENCE OF COLLUSION OR COORDINATION BETWEEN THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN AND RUSSIA TO INFLUENCE THE 2016 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.”

I know! Do you realize there was not one homosexual on the committee?

Were they LOOKING for any?

Seriously, where can I read a statement of the investigation’s purpose (like, a self-declared raison d’etre, from before it was gaveled open)?

They searched the committee room’s couch cushions very thoroughly looking for evidence. Twice!

Keep an eye on the situation in the UK, because it’s that sort of thing - one among many - that could eventually tip the scales of public perception against the Republican party. A long time ally of ours, the UK just sustained a brazen chemical attack against one of its residents - granted, a former Russian spy and hardly a choir boy, but nevertheless, an assassination by a foreign state on one’s own soil is a pretty bold move. Increasingly, among our allies, Russia is becoming a pariah state. I would hope that eventually people here eventually reach the same conclusion.

And — this just in —- Tillerson was voted off the island. A day or so after he acknowledged Russia’s part in this murder.

Rexit at last. I’m sure coming to work and not seeing Donald’s face will be a great relief to him as he gets back in the oil biz. One hopes that his successor might not obsess over cost cutting in the State Dept. and might actually appoint an ambassador to South Korea.

The House investigation was limited to the collusion issue, and its conclusions are also limited to that issue. The Mueller investigation is much much broader, and includes things which have no connection to the campaign let alone collusion.

If Mueller ends up producing some information that there was collusion between Trump and Russia then it would look very bad for the House intel people (meaning even to non-partisans). But if he doesn’t, then even if he ends up indicting for a bunch of more tax charges and obstruction and the like, then the House committee will be vindicated (again, to non-partisans).

My bet is that the latter is what ends up happening.

I like how you hand waved “tax charges and obstruction and the like” away as if this shouldn’t be a problem for anyone.

He’s arguing there is no collusion at the very same time the President fired Rex, via Twitter, for condemning the Russian attack on Great Britain yesterday.

And he hints at his "non-partisan"ship. 'Tis to laugh.

Just like after the house intelligence committee couldn’t find any wrong doing by Hillary Clinton, and the dropped the matter and never brought it up again.

I’m going to explain this one more time for the slower people, but that’s it.

Tax charges and obstruction and the like may be a problem for some people, especially if you happen to be the guy charged with those crimes. Now here’s the important part coming, so get mentally ready to pay attention. But these are not the issues being investigated by the House committee whose report was just released. They were investigating collusion. Therefore, if Mueller ends up charging people with tax charges and obstruction and the like, it will not have a bearing on the conclusions of the House committee regarding collusion.

The post I was commenting on was about the potential impact of Mueller’s investigation on the House committee report.

In other news, the Imperial Truth Committee has concluded that the unfortunate events at Tattoo Weenie were the result of an internal eruption due to a build-up of gravitational forces. And that the concurrent arrival of the Imperial Rescue Vehicle (the “Life Star”) was a coincidence, said Truth Committee Chair J.J. Binks.
