If they did, then that would be the most likely result based on the way things look right now.
But I don’t see Pence resigning. I think he had and has maintained the good sense to stay as far away as possible from Trump and any of his dealings, both during the election and since taking the VP role. I would strongly expect that he went above and beyond the duty to raise any questionable activities that he did encounter, every time he has been interviewed by the FBI or Mueller so that, should Trump be deposed, there are transcripts he can cause to get leaked and show just how much he was not in bed with any of that nonsense.
Honestly, I’ve long wondered if that wasn’t fundamentally the reason the Republican Congress stuck with Trump. They just don’t know if Mueller’s investigation is going to grab up Pence or not.
If they knew for sure they could get and keep President Pence, they’d have shanked Trump long ago. But President Pelosi… that’s a bridge too far for any Republican, Trumpian or otherwise.
Do you have a cite for the part I bolded? Pence was out publicly soliciting an interview with Mueller just a few weeks ago. I don’t think he’s been interviewed. (The Hill)
Nor do I think he will be. He publicly lied about his knowledge about Flynn’s role with the Russians when he was chairman of Trump’s transition team. I don’t think Mueller is going to give him a pass.
Here is a liberal conspiracy theory that I’ve heard:
First, put on tin-foil hat.
During the run up to the 2016 election, some Five Eyes agencies hacked into the cell phones of various prominent US politicians and basically turned the phones into microphones. Supposedly there are recordings of Pence, Ryan, McConnell, and others discussing how to funnel Russian money to the RNC through the NRA and other domestic entities. Mueller has these recordings but can’t directly use them because he can’t publicly admit that our allies are doing this.
This explains why Ryan is leaving and McConnell won’t protect Mueller.
The liberal fantasy is that Trump, Pence, Ryan, McConnell. and other corrupt Republicans will be indicted, or at the very least, resign/quit for “personal reasons” (like Ryan and his wanting to spend time with his family).
All “They” are waiting for is for Pelosi to become Speaker. Then with the indictments and/or resignations in hand, Pelosi becomes President.
You can remove tin-foil hat now and I return you to your regularly scheduled programming.
I thought he had been interviewed by the FBI, in regards to Michael Flynn, but I can’t find confirmation.
I don’t know of any sit-down with Mueller, but he could well have written a statement and sent it over or answered a set of questions via his lawyers, and we wouldn’t know. He has a pretty strong motive to clear himself, so I would guess that he has done something, even if it wasn’t asked for.
Aspenglow, if there’s no autopsy revealing the cause of death as polonium, then it wasn’t polonium. Yes, a government like Russia could use polonium to kill someone and then cover it up, but why? There are lots of easier ways to kill someone, and easier ways to cover it up. The whole point of using polonium is to not cover it up: It makes it undeniably 100% clear that the killer was the government of a major world power. They want people to know that, for the intimidation.
A CNN legal analyst and former prosecutor, Elie Honig, opines that if Mueller is entertaining a plea-and-cooperation agreement with Corsi, it suggests Mueller has “hard proof” of (something?) on Roger Stone. The logic, as I understand it, is that Corsi is a nut and therefore a bad witness. Prosecutors don’t enter into cooperation agreements with nuts unless they have a ton of other evidence.
IANAL, so I have no idea if this is a sound analysis. I believe Stone is seen as one of the key middlemen between Trump and Wikileaks/Russia (as well as being a general ratfucker). If indeed a Corsi deal means Mueller is about to roll up Stone, that is good news indeed.
I’m reasonably certain that neither of those two numbers is related to the number of days that we have to wait, let alone in accordance with your formula.
And granted, I’m sure that you didn’t intend your formula to be an actual formula, just something stupid to be able to say, but well…you’d have to explain to me the value of saying something stupid.
Marcy Wheeler has a post today on this. In it, she quotes a Washington Post article and implies that Corsi might not just be part of the Stone / Wikileaks investigation.
