There’s a part of me that thinks that his fundamentalist base is in major doublethink mode, simultaneously accepting the parts they like (judges, gay-bashing, etc) as good while seeing, in worst case scenario, the bad man in high office as the anti-Christ, ushering in the long yearned for end times.
If his base could think in any mode, they would not have voted for him in the first place. We are going to have to accept that a full 1/3 of the country are racist morons. Why else would you vote for a racist moron? Oh, the top .1% are going to come out all right I suppose.
Understand that the stupid fuck in the White House cares for nothing but his own skin, and then we can move forward. Or just ignore the stupid fucks that voted for him. Then, we can help them.
I’ve spent the last two years trying to come to grips with this.
Recent evidence says that ignoring the morons isn’t working. They now have Fox news to focus the ignorance into actual malice that effects us all. I don’t have an answer.
Being dumb does come into it, for example not realizing that the tax cuts for the middle class expire in a few years.
I vote against myself sometimes; a don’t want gun control, but I do want universal health care, I want the wealthy to pay more taxes and I believe that what a woman does to her own body is her own damn business.
Of course. My wife and I are DINKS. But we vote for anything for public education. We vote to increase our own taxes to do so. I am also a gun owner and support gun control.
I vote to help everyone.
The people that vote for Trump THINK they are voting to help THEMSELVES, when it’s really only going to help Trump. Not only are they uncaring assholes, they’re stupid too.
A detailed dive by emptywheel into the whole Buzzfeed brouhaha and why Mueller may have issued the statement he did, especially given the role of the SDNY FBI office in investigations of Trump, including the likelihood of their being the sources cited in the story.
Now, be fair. As an eight-year old millionaire I’m sure he wasn’t a crook yet. He had to be at least ten before he started hustling the other kids out of their lunch money for something promised but never delivered.
