A Thread for the Mueller Investigation Results and Outcomes (Part 1)

Mueller fought release of Comey memos to prevent Trump and others from changing stories

Full transcript here.

Oh, some of the base have believed for years the Obama had something to do with 9/11.

Watch this clip from the Daily Show. The guy at 3:30 wants to know why Obama was missing in action on 9/11 and not in the Oval Office.

Jordan Klepper Fingers the Pulse - Conspiracy Theories Thrive at a Trump Rally: The Daily Show

Some of these people are “morans”. Obama’s a Muslim because of jewelry, Hillary body doubles,…

Wow. You have to wonder ‘what if’----if Trump hadn’t had the opportunity to change his story, would he have said (and done) things that would have led Mueller to be much more forthright in his assessment of Trump’s obstructive activities? Might he have said flat out that he’d have recommended indictment if not for that Department of Justice guideline?

I’m one of the few people who, to some degree, sympathizes with Comey’s behavior, in the sense that I understand a lot of people in his position would have been tempted to do what he did. He was faced with hyper-partisanship and figured that releasing the infamous letter to Congress would cover his ass post-election. And I get why he released the memos after being fired - again to present his side of the story.

But none of that can immunize him from charges of being a showboat and a chickenshit. I think James Comey is a decent guy who was overwhelmed by the politicization of the Bureau, but I can see why both Democrat and Republican partisans despise him.

No…because Mueller did not say that for lack of evidence; He didn’t say it because of the principle that to accuse someone of a crime when they don’t have their day in Court to defend themselves is not fair, as he explained in the Introduction to Volume II of the report.

Saying flat out that he’d have recommended indictment if not for the DOJ guideline is essentially accusing the President of a crime (which is why Barr’s claim [that Mueller assured him that it was not the case that but for the DOJ guideline he would have recommended indictment] is completely meaningless. It is a question Mueller would have never answered in the affirmative no matter what the evidence.

Yes to all that, but Mueller could still have been more straightforward in making statements about the amount and seriousness of the evidence of wrongdoing that had been uncovered. As it was he was fairly reticent in discussing the body of evidence.

It’s a hypothetical, of course: if Trump didn’t realize how much the Mueller team knew about Comey’s contemporaneous memorializing of their interactions (due to Comey’s memos being, hypothetically, not made public), what b.s. claims might Trump have tried to make? How much deeper a hole might he have dug for himself?

Trump exerts Executive Privilege over Mueller Report and all supporting documents and evidence:

He might as well have just said “Yeah; I did it. What are y’all gonna do about it?”

ETA: The headlines should all read “Trump Announces Guilt With Executive Privilege Claim”.

“The guy that I appointed says that the investigation into me proves I am totally innocent, but Congress can’t see the report, you’ll just have to trust him.”

And there are people who will buy this.

So now we arrest Barr, right?

as numerous stories have pointed out, Congress is empowered to do that. The House can do it all on its own – no need to convince a Republican Senate about it.

“I lost a billion dollars by employing various tax-avoidance schemes, but Congress can’t see my tax files because reasons. And I’ll get my appointed man to interfere with the IRS to stop you. NO OBSTRUCTION!”

ETA: Congress should find Mnuchin in contempt as well, and throw his ass in jail.

Makes me wonder if that lost billion is siting in a bank on some island somewhere…

First day, something like 200, thereabouts. Now, 720. Imagine my surprise when I heard that my team of radical lefty hippies had taken over the FBI and Justice! Just imagine my surprise!

Not even close, try again…

The Rarely Used Congressional Power That Could Force William Barr’s Hand
It hasn’t been done in nearly a century, but House Democrats could arrest the attorney general after they find him in contempt.

The rest of the article is an interview with Jamie Raskin.

Do the Dems have the guts to do this? Will it backfire? If they do it, will it have any benefit or will it amount to an empty, theatrical gesture?

It might cause Mitch McConnell to have a stroke, so there’s that.

IMHO: there is 0.0% chance of Barr being arrested. He’ll be cited for contempt and then the Dems will move on to another skirmish.

If the House tried that, all hell would break loose.

#720angrydemocrats!!!

I’m having a hard time dredging up much disagreement with this; the Dems look slow and weak right now. They should have had this planned out & staged 12 or 13 moves in advance and been ready to fucking hustle some shit through to keep this in the public eye. Escalate fast and in the direction they intend and reach the proper conclusion as fast as fucking possible, IMO. ETA: The troops (the general public) needs to see a strong Dem “win” soon or things could blow up in the other direction again. Gotta deflate any potential momentum eh.

“Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.”

It is past tempting.
