Frequently. Nixon and LBJ in particular were notorious for cursing like sailors. But both of them were smart enough not to denigrate with vulgarity entire nations in meetings with people that already didn’t particularly like them.
And the fact that the USA is being represented by a clueless, hypocritical, misogynistic, narcissistic, criminal moron.
This. I am always amazed when Republicans get caught on open mikes, or get caught by leaks from meetings like this.
Helpful hint to Republicans: assume everything you say will be leaked. When you go into a TV studio, know that most of the peopke innthe room right down to the audio and video techs have it out for you and WILL leak anything you say that could be damaging.
The media covered for FDR, Kennedy, LBJ and Clinton. Call it Liberal Privilege. Republicans do not get that courtesy, and need to be more vigilant.
Opinion without supporting facts is just another prejudice. What we can do is arm ourselves with facts to use the next time some … person we might disagree with* … claims ‘they are all alike’ or … oh, whatever pretzel logic argument. Trumps popularity has steadily declined, so people do listen.
And the media was not particularly kind to LBJ in his time.
** I’m not President - can I call them shit-for-brains?*
You know what’s REALLY amazing? That there are still liberals who bother trying to get this shit on tape hoping you’ll say “wow, what a terrible thing to say” instead of “hey, nobody’s supposed to reveal our actual thoughts.”
Sam. The issue is *not *that this came out. The issue is that this is who he is, and who his party is, and who his supporters are.
Tell us again why you root for them anyway.
Yes, let’s all be sympathetic to the plight of the racists and how hard it is not to be exposed. Let’s feel sorry for the most amoral, corrupt and unpatriotic President in the history of the United States. How sad he got caught being the thorough scum he is.
What a fucking stupid thing to say. Have you recently been brain damaged?
The media also covered for Harding, Coolidge, Hoover, Eisenhower, Reagan, and Bush and they covered for Nixon as long as they could. You know as well as I do that the reason they covered for, say, Johnson wasn’t that he was a Democrat, but that it was 1964 and back then the media covered for a President’s personal improprieties. If a Democrat pulled shit in today’s environment they would crucify him. You know why you never heard anything about Barack Obama? Because he was a decent man. And why did I hear so much about Clinton being a philanderer?
Or they could be less racist. Which do you think is preferable?
You’re failing to accurately apply the Republican Bias Assessment Algorithm. It goes like this:
“If the media report [X] it means that media outlet is [Y]”:
If X = “something good about a Republican” then Y = “fair, balanced and truthful.”
If X = “something good about a Democrat” then Y = “lying, biased purveyors of fake news.”
If X = “something bad about a Republican” then Y = “lying, biased purveyors of fake news and a bunch of meany meanheads too.”
If X = “something bad about a Democrat” then Y = “bold, reliable truthtellers who should be believed without question.”
I think that should clear things up for you, RickJay.
No need for Nixon to fear a surprise live mike, every day was open mike night for Nixon!
Now I’m picturing him at a comedy club. “Wow, that guy isn’t funny, but he does a great impression of Nixon!”
One should only say good things about the dead. Nixon is dead. Good.
The media covered for Nixon? Do you mean the drinking and cursing? Because the only restraint they showed on his public bad acts was waiting for some kind of evidence, I believe.
The above remark reminds me of what Hunter S. Thompson had to say when Nixon died. (TL;DR: It warn’t pretty.)
I wish we could see what Hunter S. Thompson would have to say about Trump now.
Fear and loathing at Trump tower.
“Nixon liked to remind people of that. He believed it, and that was why he went down. He was not only a crook but a fool. Two years after he quit, he told a TV journalist that “if the president does it, it can’t be illegal.””
That is hauntingly familiar.
This made me snort my milk.
Bette Davis’s ghost is going to haunt you, 'luci…
But those eyes…
I hope he gets the black make-up wearing head rolling church burning death-metal Norwegians
