Happy Saturday, everybody. Or something like that. It is indeed beautiful and warm here; thus far, it’s not getting too warm; it’s just perfect, to be specific. Being just a few blocks from the water does help; it keeps the temps here much more equalized than further inland. I like that.
That Explosion Porn sounds fun, Gotti! Those guys do love to make things blow up, don’t they? But they do it so well.
Sounds like a great event!
Taters, Sonic onion rings are the best anywhere if you like 'em big and fat and juicy. None of this minced onion crap from them – oh, no, great big fat slices of great big onions are used. I miss going to the Sonic near our house in New Orleans and getting a burger and great big fat onion rings for a sinful lunch. Yummy! Enjoy some for me!
We had all kinds of excitement this morning at a nearby house – the one across the side street from Mae’s house, snowbunny, in case you were wondering – looks like the guy who lived there died.
We didn’t know him, but we’d see him out working in his yard and exchange pleasantries. He was younger than us.
Looks like it was natural causes, though, since a funeral home came and took him away. That’s still a shame, though.
I ended up knitting on the first lacy scarf last night (no, Cesar Millan wasn’t knitting, Swampy, you grammar geek you!), but ended up tearing it out completely once, then re-knitting about a dozen rows and tearing several back again. Not because I’d done anything wrong, but the first time I decided it was going to be too narrow so I wanted to add in a couple pattern repeats, and the second time because even though the pattern called for a couple rows to be knit in garter stitch, I thought they’d look better in stockinette. Perfectionist, me? Who’d’a a thunk it?
Anyway, I’m now off on the pattern that repeats all the way down the length, and it is a very simple pattern indeed; once through should be more than enough to have it completely memorized. And the yarn I chose to work with is knitting up like a dream – it’s called fingering but is closer to lace IMO, but is a nice firm merino so it doesn’t split or catch on itself when I rip it out. And I’ve got twice as much of it as I need for the scarf – heck, I could make two identical ones so the two sisters the two scarves are going to don’t bicker over whose is nicer! <g> I got it from an acquaintance who, after evacuating from Katrina, decided to follow his dream of making a living dying yarn; he does gorgeous work. This was one of his one-of-a-kind end-of-the-dye-jar specials. I’ve also bought some of his sock yarn, and an odd skein or two of his worsted for making hats – I love his colors, they’ve very rich. Not everyone applies the color quite as intensely, but I like that. His turquoise is the most beautiful anywhere.
Enough knitting babbling, especially since most of you neither care nor understand. I’m debating whether I want to do any actual work today, and thus far the answer is no, not hardly. Which is fine; I just have one stupid thing on hand right now that’s one of those nobody-cares-about-it jobs, and then one of my favorite jobs will be arriving on Monday. So I’m going to take it easy this weekend and save up all my energy for working on the good job on Monday. Sounds like a good plan to me, anyway.
Back to knitting!
