A whole salada in a minute - weird dare

So, we are sitting with friends we haven’t seen in a while and after a few drinks, she says, ‘you can’t eat an entire salada biscuit in under a minute’. The rules are that you must chew and swallow the entire salada biscuit without drinking anything, you can break it into the four squares, or crumble it further, but it must be gone in under a minute. Weird? Yes, and is it possible, (because when something like that is said, well, you just have to try it)? No. You can’t do it.

The next time your drunk flatmate is pissing you off, or someone is getting hairy chested about how good they are, just throw it out there, and stand back, because you will be showered with spitty bits of biscuit. Actually put money on it because unless you are a super salivator (is this even a word), I don’t believe it can be done. I dunno … maybe it’s an Australian thing, like pushing straws through a potato …

In the world of biscuit games, Soggy Sao is king.

That’s a saltine, right? How big are they over there? Are you sure you didn’t have, uh, cotton mouth?

The Urban dictionary ( which would be a cool site without all the twelve year olds posting) adds this gem about the game:

“Game played by homosexual or confused young men, usually at boarding skool’s (sic) such as Trinity Grammer or Kings.”

Are those ordinary saltines or cream crackers? Saltines I could do. Cream crackers would be a bigger challenge.

A good bet (typically at a bar) is to burn a hole, using a cigarette, in a $20 bill. The bill is wrapped around the person’s forearm, and they are given 5 minutes to burn a complete hole using only a lit cigarette.

With no 02 under the bill, the heat is absorbed by the flesh beneath it. I have seen people refuse to give up, screaming in pain, as they try to win the bet.

I’ve heard a variation of this in the states, where the goal is six saltine crackers in a minute with no water or other liquids allowed. Very hard. On par with the gallon milk challenge (which is to drink a gallon of milk in one hour…MUCH harder than it sounds.)

When I was about twenty, I used to drink a lot of water; I’d routinely drink a quart without taking a breath. Once, my girlfriend saw me do it, and convinced me to do it again so her roommates could watch. I succeeded, but had to go throw up afterward.

IIRC, milk contains a substance that the human digestive system cannot process in mass quantities so it gets rejected.

One saltine cracker in one minute?

This sounds not onty possible, but almost impossible not to succeed?

I had a pack in my desk - Christie Premium Plus salted top. Here they measure about 1.75" square. I ate one in 30 seconds without even much difficulty.

They must grow them bigger down there.

From here, and based on the OP, it sounds like they are designed such that they can be broken into halves or quarters as desired. Perhaps one whole Salada is like four Premium Plus in a big square? Can you see if you can do four?

I think I’ll wait for the dimensions to come in. Your link says “break into halves or quarters “man size, snack size, bite size”.”

I don’t think 1.75 inches is bite size.

Of course your link also says “Top it with whatever you like. From vegemite & cheese to sardines & sauce.” I find this amusing for some reason.

Misread as: A whole salad in a minute

I’d think that might be Coney Island material.p

A salada is 10cm x 9.5cm. That’s for all 4 “squares”. They are about 2-3mm thick, I would suggest (I did not get them to measure that).

Many thanks to my wife, and the mystery Salada donor at her workplace for allowing us to measure it.

Also, I think it would be totally possible to eat one in under a minute. Unless you’re a bird or something, who has to use a beak.

Therefore:

The area of a salada is about 95 cm[sup]2[/sup]

The area of a saltine = 1.75 inches square = 4.45cm x 4.45 cm = 19.8 cm[sup]2[/sup] (approximately)

So a salada is almost 5 times bigger than a saltine.

We did this with ten saltines in a minute, no drinking. I couldn’t get past maybe three.

I’m still working up the nerve to try the gallon of milk.

What IS a salada biscuit? I’ve never heard of it …is this some regional thing? Googling gets me nowhere.

Salada

It’s an Australian dry biscuit.

One saltine…

ETA: Ahh. Two saltines…

ETA, A: Three saltines…
