Thanks for remembering me, Ginger. As long as the restaurant carries one or two vegetarian selections, I’m set. If there’s not a vegan selection, I have no problem with eating vegetarian instead when I eat out every so often. So don’t go to an enormous amount of trouble to find a place that carries a vegan item - vegetarian is fine.
The times I’ve been there, it was with a vegetarian.
They have these potato… things, I dunno, they’re really just fried potatoes of some sort, but they’re darn tasty. The sauce they come with is mayonaise based, but they also have this olive relish of some sort that you can get, which is good on pretty much anything.
They also have all sorts of salads if that’s your thing. I think there are several more vegetarian or vegan selections, but I don’t remember any off the top of my head.
Completely missed that thread. Since so many Virginian dopers are resonding to this thread I don’t think it’d be fair to suddenly switch locales. It’s all cool, 'cause right now we’re tentatively planning on holding May’s AAA around Baltimore (and even more tentatively July’s in DC), so she’ll have plenty of chances to meet all of us BAD’s.
Ok, so I called the Tapas place. No problems with a party of 10-15 people. I also asked about the health of the people employed there, and it all sounds good. Juanita had a nasty ingrown toenail last Februrary, but she’s doing just fine now. No cardiac conditions or anything.
So who’s in so far? If anybody will be needing a ride from the Metro (I can pick people up at Huntington on the Yellow Line), let me know.
The consensus seems to be Toro Tapas in Shirlington, and it appears that 16 MADs have either expressed an interest, or downright said “No way would I miss this!”

Can I give you a ride, tramp? I work in Rosslyn, but since we’re meeting at 8pm I’ll probably be leaving from Annandale. I’m more than willing to swing by and give you a lift.
We wouldn’t want the one who demands beer to get lost, now would we? The website that RT listed above has a link to a map, and I believe that no matter where you are in Alexandria it should be relatively simple to find since it’s spit’n distance from Rt 395.
But I dunno, driving from Baltimore to Arlington on a Friday night? Does this place have nearby Metro access?
Although if WeirdGinger is/are attending, I suppose I don’t really have an excuse…
I sure hope Gingy and Dave can make it, but if they don’t my advice would be to wait until 7pm to leave Balmer. You will be headed against traffic most of the way, and by the time you hit Virginia the rush will be over.
Friday DC traffic sucks the big smelly wang, and I would prefer to avoid it altogether. Who’s got a good old-fashioned transporter from Star Trek? You know the one I mean.
I was planning on it, but since you had called to check on how big of a party the place could hold I was just a little unsure. I was going to bump the thread yesterday and ask you but I got way too busy.
No worries, reservations are made for 8:00 Friday under the name of Cecil Adams. I told them max of ~18 people, which seemed safe. I imagine we’ll be under that, but it’s better to have more space reserved than less.
