I will be coming, and bringing one friend. I may be arriving more toward 8:30 if I can’t get out of work early. I gotta admit, I am a little nervous, because I won’t know who anyone is! Have most of you already met in real life? Maybe we could do nametags, saying what our screenname is, and our real name. I know it sounds a little dorky, but I think it would help us all remember who is who. And besides, I am really bad with names!
Tapas means small dishes, kind of like everything is a la carte. Most dishes are in the $5-$10 neighborhood. It’s great for groups, everyone gets to try everything, plates get passed around - you know: Food Fight!
I went a few years back with Geobabe and we had trouble limiting our choices. Everything looked so good! It’ll be fun to go with a group so we can try more things.
The menu is pretty extensive and I think you should be covered whatever your dietary needs are. Why don’t you give them a call and ask? (I sure wish their menu was on-line.)
I’m sure they’ll have SOMETHING there you can eat. Being a Tapas bar, their appetizer menu is quite extensive, there’s a little bit of everything there. Even if you’re limited to something like a salad, they’re still good.
Well, I may not disappoint those who were planning to attend tonight, but I am extremely disappointed that I can’t go. I’m sick as a dog with some sort of respiratory infection (actually, I think it’s bronchitis) and there is no way I can drive two hours north of Richmond tonight. And I’d rather not be known on the SDMB as “The girl who infected everyone in Northern Virginia”, so I’ll have to pass until the next one.
sigh. This sucks. I was really looking forward to meeting some Dopers.
Sorry you can’t make it, Ava. One of these days we really need a Richmond Dopefest, so that downstate Virginians don’t have so far to travel. And that might even lure some of the NC contingent up.
Looks like my lady will be joining us for tapas. Lucretia, we’ll be sure to save seats for you and Bluesman.
Oh Ava, I’m so sorry. I certainly hope it’s not somthing “severe” or “acute”. Bronchitis is bad enough.
I was looking forward to meeting you and I’m sure the team will really miss you. Please watch for MAD threads - you’ll have a lot more opportunities to meet fellow Dopers. Groups get together fairly frequently and we would love to meet you. Get well soon.
I was just tapped to lead (read: drive) a field trip of some of our students to DC this weekend. We’re leaving here at 3 and should be at our hotel in Alexandria by 7.
IFF I can escape them, I’ll try to swing by… but as I am the only one that is authorized to drive, it may be difficult for me. Is it near a metro stop?
(As a matter of fact, I’m kind of a yokel when it comes to subways, busses, and big cities, so spare no details!)
There isn’t really a metro stop close enough to be terribly convenient. I imagine you could snag a bus from something along the yellow line (Eisenhower avenue, Pentagon, and Pentagon City would be the closest, I think) but I don’t know the details (try WMATA’s page for details).
Just wanted to let y’all know that I probably won’t be showing up until around 9 p.m. (gotta work late). Hope that’s not too late! It will be me and one friend, so we can just squeeze in somewhere. See you tonight!
Noooooo, Gingy and Dave aren’t coming? I don’t know how, but we will have to muddle through without you.
Pantellerite, I’d be glad to pick you up at your hotel. I’ll email you my phone number to arrange, so please try to check your email before you leave NC. Or post your hotel name here and I’ll try to call you (which will work fine if you register as Pantellerite).
Clarification: only the 7A, 7C, 7E, and 7F service that stop. If you do Metro instead of getting a ride with Anita, you want to take one of those four or else you’ll be a long way down 395 before the first stop.
MEH…Just had one of my production SQL Servers go tits up. I’m gonna be stuck at work for awhile rebuilding the damned thing; dunno how long its gonna take. If I can get this fawkin’ thing resussitated in time, I’ll still swing out there. sigh
