if you like diet coke, you will hate lemon diet coke.
if you hate diet coke, you will like diet lemon coke.
for the life of me, I cant imagine how anyone could possibly even like diet coke. It tastes so bad. But lemon diet coke? I love it. The lemon masks the diet taste. go figure.
Not that I buy soft drinks on a regular basis, but given these “Lemon Pledge” warnings, I’ll stay clear of any lemon-flavored cola. I like a twist of lemon in a drink, but I’ll do it myself, thank-you-very-much. I even like lemon in beer (a bit of a shandy, but not quite). There was a period where, at home and at clubs, I’d shove a wedge of lemon into my beer bottle. Very enjoyable.
Then they came out with these lemon-flavored malt liquor drinks (Boomerang, Tornade, etc.). Disgusting. And the hard liquor lemon drinks (Mike’s Hard Lemonade, Smirnoff Ice) are way too sweet for me.
Regarding vanilla soft drinks, though, I recall New York Seltzer. I don’t know if it was just a Canadian thing or not, but it was really big in the 80s. I was in Vancouver in 1986 for Expo 86 and the stuff was everywhere. It was fizzy, clear, with just a hint of flavor. One of my favorites was the vanilla flavor. But vanilla with cola? Oh, I don’t know…
I agree. I’d provide a cite right now but I’m too lazy. In any case, diet Coke is not Coke minus the sugar (or corn syrup, depending on where you live) plus aspartame. It’s an entirely different formula.
What was Coke minus the sugar plus saccharin or whatever, was TAB. Man, that stuff was good. I used to drink copious amounts of it when I was young. It tasted (more or less) like Coke. I’m sorry, but diet Coke tastes completely different.
And while TAB is apparently still available in some parts, it’s nowhere to be found here. On top of that saccharin is no longer considered a carcinogen, IIRC. Hell, I smoke a pack a day. I don’t think a couple of TABs is going to make things worse.
In terms of diet colas, I can only drink diet Pepsi. In terms of regular colas, I can only drink Coke. Go figure.
Don’t get me started on the ill-fated Pepsi Clear. That was an abomination. And what was the deal with Pepsi AM? Pepsi for breakfast? Whatever! And it irks me that Gatorade is now marketing some kind of enhanced water.
If you want more info on TAB, do a Google search on TAB cola. There’s a great website devoted to it.
Heh, the same reason that you give for not liking diet pop is the same reason that I like diet pop. I can’t stand regular pop, and the actual sugar (well, corn syrup) is far too sticky and sweet. I prefer the diet formulation (although I hate Coke and Diet Coke, I’m a Diet Pepsi drinker). Oh, and I like both Diet Pepsi and Diet Pepsi Twist.
Well, drive down to Detroit. Krogers and Farmer Jacks alike carry the 12-can boxes of TAB. It’s the only Coke product I like. I pick up a case of that often. Although every time I do, Back to the Future pops into my head.
“Whaddaya have?”
“Ah, gimme a TAB”
“How can I give you a tab, you haven’t ordered anything yet!”
I’m forced to agree. I also question the sanity of anyone who drinks and enjoys diet soda in any mutation.
I have tried (regular) Pepsi Twist and dind it is actually better from the can, and almost undrinkable from the bottle.
My sons tried the new vanilla coke - which I admit I bought from one of those evil gas stations that carry only one or the other (in this case the other) and found it to be quite nasty, though tough to describe. Any one else try it yet?
