Coca-Cola has actually introduced a diet cola beverage that absolutely ROCKS! I was very skeptical of the new lime-flavored Diet Coke, given the previous attempt to mix Pledge Furniture Polish with Diet Coke and market it under the Diet Coke with Lemon moniker.
The lime taste is very, very close to a fresh squeezed lime wedge. Of course, since Coca-Cola is the crack dealer of the soda world, the price has shot way up since its introduction. Bastards. I’m paying up, anyway. Bastards.
This soda goes so well with any food even remotely Mexican or Spanish. I have yet to try it with rum. Any reports from the field?
Pass me another cup of the new Diet Coke with Lime (aka Diet Soda Nectar of the Gods)!
To the detractors of Diet Coke with Lime, I have but one word for you: Feh!
I’ve been desperately trying to break my soda habit, but now I’m awfully curious.
I’ve always liked putting lime in my diet coke in the first place (especially when I’m making Cuba Libres), but that looks like a pretty good shortcut there.
And you know, I just came back from the market, too.
(Maybe I can get my husband to go for me. :D)
aaaw… jealous!! I saw someone with some lime coke the other day and was pretty jealous. I haven’t tried it yet… but now that it has Doper endorsement, that’s moving to the top of my to-do list!
Any reason why you wouldn’t just use a fresh squeezed lime wedge? I’m a fan of the coke & lime (& rum) but I can’t really understand this product. I am not about to go buy some vanilla to twirl around in my coke, that wont work very well. But limes! Limes squeeze! Limes are cheap!
So, really, why not a real lime?
I guess vending machines, or some other place where you wouldnt have a lime handy. Keep one in your pocket just in case the mood strikes.
Well, as you said, lime is cheap; but in this case, it’s free, so why would you pay? Look at it this way: in my market, limes are often 3 for $1.00. Let’s say a 12 pack of diet coke is $4.00. The soda plus the limes to squeeze into them, a total of $5.00. Diet coke with the lime already added? $4.00. You save a buck.
Sad thing is, it’ll never be available in vending machines. Vending machines have 876 flavors of sugary sodas, and one lousy freakin’ diet soda, and it’s always plain cola.
You know, I never thought of it that way. I drink pop mainly from cans. It’s rare that I would ever pour it over ice in a glass at home. Plus, I never keep limes on hand, except when I’m cooking something that reqires limes. When I drink alcohol at home, it’s either scotch neat, cordial or vino, so limes never come into play there.
As for keeping limes in my pocket, well, that’s just so British!
As this IS IMHO, I gotta admit I’m MYSTIFIED at how many people here can call
ANY diet drink “Nector-of-the-gods”. SHEESH, people, you gotta be putting some
Nasty things in your mouth to consider these things Great.
Don’t you guys have bottled lemon juice and lime juice? You can pick it up anywhere in Australia - it’s just straight juice in a plastic squeeze bottle with no preservatives. Once you open it it has to be refrigerated and only keeps for a couple of weeks. Any I don’y use I transfer to a spray bottle for cleaning.
Hey, I qualified it as the DIET SODA Nectar of the Gods. Clearly, I’d rather have a nice Pinot Noir or a 12 year old Laphroaig coarsing over my pallate. But neither of those beverages wins on a cost per ounce basis or as a method of caffeine injection.
