What possible difference does it make if John Goodman used to be good looking? (And FWIW, even in his younger days he doesn’t do much for me)?
We’re talking about right now. Lindsey Lohan used to be a very attractive girl. Now she looks 20 years older than she is, and has had horrid plastic surgery - that she used to be good looking is of no consequence to this thread. This thread is about people who you should find repellant but oddly, don’t. Queen Latifa is a good looking woman, RIGHT NOW. John Goodman is not a good looking man - that he was a cute baby or whatever, makes no difference whatsoever.
Claudia Black… Way too petite, Not a raging beauty but when she smiles i get all warm inside.

And you simply have an unacknowledged double standard. If fat can make a man “repellant” it can certainly make a woman “repellant.”
Could Queen Latifah be regarded as repellant? Maybe it depends on the angle.
Or judging from the photo you selected, maybe it depends on the amount of makeup and airbrushing.

As to the Dopers that mentioned Illeana Douglas and Kristen Schaal, I’ve always found that look very hot. Of course the queen of this look is Maggie Gyllenhall.

Unless Matt here has a really bad substance abuse problem or urinates in public, he clearly does not qualify for this thread - there’s nothing repellant about him.

Even Seth here is quite a stretch - he’s not a bad looking fellow at all - again, unless there’s some horrible personal habit that I don’t know about, he really does not qualify at all.
I had no idea who she was until yesterday. Seeing a few pictures of her has convinced me that she’s a major-league hottie.
I am… disturbed how it is that YOU repeatedly insist on setting the standards for others about who should be attractive or repellent. Perhaps “scruffy” is a quality that Madysin usually finds repellent. “Fat” is another quality that a LOT of people find unattractive.

Dennis Leary. Comes across as smug, self-satisfied, knows how society/politics should be run. Physically unattractive and ferret-faced. Annoying, grating voice. In interviews, he’ll often express opinions that I find misinformed. And yet, he fascinates me. I’ll even watch those stupid ads for pickup trucks where he doesn’t even appear, just does the voice-over. Please explain my mental illness that causes me to watch this guy in whatever venue he appears. Do I need meds? A lobotomy? Aversion therapy? ARRGH!!!
I don’t have subscription TV, so I haven’t watched Rescue Me. I could rent the DVDs or borrow them from the library, but I avoid doing so because I don’t want to further me weird fascination with this guy.

Give me a break - listing good looking actors who play nerdy characters as repellant is absurd. There is nothing ‘odd’ about being attracted to a good looking nerd. Like, nothing.
Kat von D, on the other hand, clearly qualifies. She is good looking but has made such appalling personal choices that being repelled by her is probably not surprising. Same as Fergie - objectively attractive, but pees her pants in public. Ew.
I just don’t consider playing a nerdy role in the same category as public urination.

Look, if you want to start a thread about objectively attractive people who play nerdy roles that you’re attracted to, be my guest.
That’s not the point of THIS thread. This thread is about people who are train wrecks that you still find hot for no explicable reason. There was even a qualifying statement to that effect in the OP. Now, if you don’t like that theme for a thread, you’re free not to participate, but people posting ‘Kate Winslet has one toe longer than the other, but I’d still do her.’ is kind of missing the point.
