Actors/resses that makes you NOT want to see a movie

Sorry, must have clicked on the wrong Reply.

Julie Sommars does have an incredibly irritating voice, though. I particularly disliked her on Matlock.

Tom Cruise getting a lot of hate here, when I’d say he’s actually the opposite for me; if I see his name on a film poster, I’m MORE likely to watch it because I know I’m going to have a good time. I get the criticism of his acting; I think he can phone in the characterisation a little, although, (hopefully I can say this without sounding pretentious), there are subtleties to most of his performances. But bloody hell does he put in the effort when it comes to throwing himself (literally) into action. Ok, probably just because he enjoys doing that the most, but still… the Mission Impossible series (other than 2) has been extremely entertaining. And as someone else mentioned, he can actually act if he wants to (Rain Man, A Few Good Men, Valkyrie, Magnolia, Tropic Thunder, etc etc).

I always found Joan Rivers to be annoying

Whenever I think of Bernadette Peters, I remember that scene with the table in Mel Brooks’ Silent Movie. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Russell Brand.

Vin Diesel.

Doesn’t mean I wouldn’t necessarily watch a movie with those types or others of their ilk (which is: hugely irritating)…just wouldn’t seek one out, and would likely avoid.

I know. Isn’t it fascinating how the mind does that to folks? Anyway, I’m definitely going to binge watch The Powers That Be. It wasn’t Soap. Best thing about that show was an instructor I had at University of Maryland on the base in Seoul was seriously addicted to it. He’d have us power through the class session without a break so we could all leave early and watch it on AFKN. That was way back in 1977/1978. I liked everyone on Soap.

AND WE MAY HAVE A WINNER! Yeah, Peters’ voice is incredibly annoying. And I can see that I may have mistaken the lead male character’s charecteristics. But the time fits and the annoying voice does too.

Didi Conn had an annoying voice, she was on Benson. But she wasn’t anybody’s mistress. Unless you count Pete.

Was she an actress? I thought comedian was her stock and trade.

Oh I have another I can’t take, Dwayne Johnson. Good lord that man is annoying.

Joan Rivers was actually in quite a few movies and TV shows—mostly in small parts and playing herself though.

Also speaking of pro wrestlers turned actors --Hulk Hogan’s movies make anything Dwayne Johnson’s done look cinematic masterpieces,

Hehehe, I kinda have the opposite reaction. I wouldn’t avoid her since I loved her performance in The Jerk. But then again, I’m not the guardian of good taste.

Totally with you on that one!

Put me on the Jim Carrey list, and I’ll toss in Robin Williams for the same reason. A very, very, very, very, very little bit of either one goes a very, very, very, very, very long way with me.

But I have to add that Williams playing a creepy, shadowy character is exquisite. Insomnia. One Hour Photo. I wish he had done more of that kind of stuff.

Yeah between their glurge and superhero movies, I pretty much stay home.

Possibly All’s Fair with Richard Crenna. He’s a senator, she’s a photog and that’s all I remember about the show.

Michael Douglas, Mark Wahlberg, Laura Dern, Juliette Lewis… and that new guy with the annoying face who’s in everything.

ETA: Glen Powell. Even his name is forgettable.

Yeah, that’s who it was and that’s the show. God, what an annoying voice she has.

I kind of want to make a thread about Actor/resses that you would see no matter what movie or TV show they’re in, and later regret your life choices. But I have a feeling it would quietly die.

I mean, I like David Spade, but was really disappointed when he hosted Snake Oil. I wanted him to be snarky and obnoxious to the guests, but he wasn’t. He made it a career to this point, and Jane Lynch was able to pull it off in hosting The Weakest Link.

Yep. And Matt Damon. Mostly it’s their looks. I guess many women go for that blunt thick-faced type but I find it really ugly. Mark Hamill also has that face.

Tom Cruise can pick rocks. I find comedies embarrassing so I’ve never seen Carey or those other comedians.

If LDC is in a film, it’s highly likely it will be good. Ok mostly he works with Scorsese these days so it’s no surprise, but his good film to bad film ratio has been excellent for 20-odd years now.

Julia Roberts. I’ve always found her quite unattractive and she just doesn’t make movies I want to see.

Shia TheBeef. He has a face that just says “please punch me as hard you can,” and I’ve pretty much hated every movie he’s ever been in.
