I’m glad to hear that. I was disappointed in Fox, but I’d have been devastated if it’d been Whatley. Re-watching old Morse episodes, I so enjoy his Lewis’s sly digs at Morse.
I’ve heard it’s because he takes on interesting roles rather than good roles now.
Is “interesting” another way to say “they drove a dump truck full of money to my house”?
In that scene, I agree with you - mainly because Pacino dialed himself way down in order to synch with De Niro’s low-key performance. The rest of the movie, though, belonged to Pacino. He had energy, he had humor, he was fun to watch, whereas De Niro was just… there.
Gina Carano’s another one. Her debut in Haywire was fantastic. She had screen presence, and could hold her own against a roster of much more experienced thespians. Was pretty great in Deadpool and that F&F muvie as well. Then the social media anti-vax and transphobic stuff hit and it’s hard to watch her onscreen for me. Carano was an invited guest for the big FanExpo convention here in Toronto this past weekend, but tweeted her regrets last week that she couldn’t come, because she’s refused to get vaxxed for travel. As friends of mine in the fancon scene were saying, she and Kevin Sorbo and Dean Cain and Adam Baldwin should all just hold their own convention somewhere…
I used to hate Paul Reiser because his character in Aliens betrayed everybody. I’d see him in a show and scream “Watch out, he’s gonna backstab you!”
OK, didn’t really hate him, just making my own urban myth.
I now avoid Tim Allen at all costs. Enjoyed Tool Time back in the day. His later sitcom, Last Man Standing, appeared to me a vehicle for Allen to ridicule Barack Obama. Found out this was true when I attended one of his stand up shows at a local casino. The first half hour was the old Tim Allen then he started political jabs at the Democratic leadership at the time. My wife and I were among many that walked out when he started ranting about Obama’s citizenship. Allen directed a comment at those leaving, one guy hollered back “At least Obama never got busted for drugs, you loser”. Haven’t watched anything of his, new or old, since.
Glad I watched Sneaky Pete before I knew this.
Not to pick on you in particular, but why would you want to? There a thousands of choices out there to watch. Cutting out a few people would have zero impact on your viewing. I have limited time to watch tv/movies so I have to miss some things that may be good. Keeping money out of assholes pockets seems a pretty good line to draw.
I stopped watching Eastwood movies when he stopped making action movies and shifted to the “Give me an Oscar, please, please please” category. To me, he topped out at Josey Wales and it’s been downhill since then. Tom Hanks and Spielberg are in the same category.
Eastwood’s last good film was Unforgiven, which was arguably one of the best westerns/character studies ever made. I’ve soured on him since then, both on a personal level and as a filmmaker. What anybody saw in “Gran Torino” is beyond me, and I haven’t watched anything of his since that clunker.
Andy Dick.
Although, he does seem to be having trouble getting work these days, so it’s not all that difficult to avoid seeing him.
I liked it. Pretty good transformation from a racist asshole to someone… slightly more enlightened. (i.e., He didn’t have a totally unbelievable transformation.)
For me, the movie was an excuse for Eastwood to use racial slurs without taking a lot of heat for it.
I watched it because I had a Gran Torino. Mine was a '69.
Hehe, I had a '75 Ranchero. My father in law had a '70 SCJ. He swears the 66 Comet Caliente with a 390 was faster.
But yeah, Eastwood is the guy I can’t watch much anymore. The quality of the scripts he picks is pretty scattershot. Upon reflection, that slide started a looooong tune ago. Have you tried to watch Every Which Way But Loose recently? Woah, that movie is bad in just about every way.
Pretty good 70s country music soundtrack, though.
As someone else said, Cruise is very in-your-face about it. I did not see the talk show in which he and Brooke Shields both appeared. Brooke was very up front about dealing with post-partum depression and taking medication as needed. Cruise was an ass. (correction: he criticized Shields publicly, but not to her face).
Why on earth am I the first person to mention Bill Cosby?
Sutherland has been in a mixed bag of stuff - some good, some not so good.
Have you seen him in:
Ordinary People
Kelly’s Heroes
Citizen X
And a very small but amazing role in an obscure movie Little Murders
?
You know what that is worth now?
Hehehe, yes, but I almost don’t care. The value of the car isn’t even the point. It was a gorgeous beast. Black, the best of all colors, and the prettiest body and front end ever put on a mid sized Ford. Before I ever met my wife, I decided that '70 Ranchero was the best Ranchero.
Of course, it was a casualty of the late 70s gas crisis. He sold it because he didn’t think he could keep up with its thirst.
I remember hearing a story that Paul Reiser knew he did a good job playing an asshole in Aliens when his mother cheered when his character died.
Mentioned here: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090605/trivia/?ref_=tt_trv_trv
You could Rob Schneider and Scott Baio to that list.
