He went for the hat trick with Sabrina.
I quite liked Six Days Seven Nights, even though the lack of chemistry was obvious. To me it was all about “Any Port in a Storm,” really.
You can’t blame Harrison Ford for Working Girl. Melanie Griffith sounds so stupid in that movie (and I believe in real life as well), i’m sure old Harrison was having a hard time getting into the role.
Umm…both Ford and Sigourney Weaver can be blamed for that film. Melanie Griffith was simply doing what she does best: Making you wonder how and why she ever became a movie star.
Painful film to watch.
VERY painful.
Excellent point.
You know, I thought I was the only one who wondered how and why she became a movie star. She isn’t even that attractive (to me, anyway) and she sounds dumber than a bag of hammers. Every time she opens her mouth in that movie, I cringe.
Melanie Griffith became a movie star so she could be in the movie “Something Wild”. One of my favorite movies, and she’s just right for it.
She was great in that movie, (as was Jeff Daniels btw.) In fact, she was so good, I kept on giving her a pass for much of her subsequent bad acting.

Something Wild* was Melanie’s one-ht wonder.
Hmm. Never saw it. Perhaps it’s worth a look.
Is she naked in the movie? Because I could see watching a movie where she was young and naked.
I can’t recall any movie where she is seen naked. I think in Working Girl she shows up in one scene in her underwear, but I can’t recall any nudity.
Hey Stink Fish Pot, If I tell you Melanie Griffith was in her underwear would you watch “Something Wild”? It’s really good. Ray Liotta is in it too. Hmm - Maybe I’ll rent & rewatch soon.
Yeah, pretty sure topless and tushy. But I tell you, she’s so good, the movie was still worth watching when I saw it censored on TV. She’s 25 or 26 years old, looking great, and she has short black hair in the movie… playing a wild child. And her child-like voice, (which is annoying most of the time) works for this movie. It’s directed by Jonathan Demme, and, besides Jeff Daniels, also has Ray Liotta in the film.
I like Working Girl, and Melanie Griffith in it. And Joan Cusack rules. The only thing I don’t like about it is the song from the movie won the Best Original song at the Oscars and, while I do like it, is now pretty much forgotten except by Carly Simon fans, while “Calling You” from the movie Bagdad Cafe not only lost, but it wasn’t even performed at the Oscars, and yet, it’s become a classic, covered by people as diverse as Jeff Buckley, Holly Cole, George Michael and Barbra Streisand, among many, many others (YouTube is full of covers). But, that’s not the movie’s fault. I think the movie is funny. Ah well.
PLEASE tell me you’ve seen Cedar Rapids! She’s gorgeous and funny in it, and it’s a fun movie besides. If you haven’t seen it, stop what you’re doing and go find it and watch it NOW. You’re welcome.
I assume she’s playing the lead. Here’s an article I found about it.
re Anne Heche - nobody’s mentioned she also got to play Johnny Depp’s wife in the grievously overlooked “Donnie Brasco”. Al Pacino is in that movie too, and good.
I know it is extremely shallow of me, but I loathe her voice so much, I would have to have some motivation to watch a movie she appears in. There are only so many hours in my life. I cannot imagine knowingly watching another Melanie Griffith film without some sort of a cheap payoff. If i remember correctly, she had a nice little bum, too. So seeing her naked would help motivate me to see a movie. And who knows? Maybe I’ll appreciate her more if she is playing in a role that fits her a bit better. Since there is more than one person recommending this movie for her performance in it, I think that gives me some motivation to seek it out.
Topless AND tushy? Ok, I will see if I can find it. In the meantime, if anyone can find a pic of her nude from one of her movies on the internet, post the link. (Label it NSFW, of course).
And Bellhorn, you hit the nail on the head with her voice. Every time i hear it, it sounds worse than a piece of chalk on a blackboard. It has a strange, childlike sound to it… Close to a chipmunk voice, and it doesn’t sound real.
When i think of her saying “I have a brain for business and a body for sin.” I cringe. If i found myself alone and naked with her, she would have to keep her mouth shut. If she spoke, I would deflate immediately… And it would also make me feel like a pedophile, which really grosses me out.
I did remember a movie in which Griffith is in that she does ok in. Pacific Heights, with Michael Keaton and Matthew Modine. Her voice still hurts, but she is watchable. And she doesn’t get naked, either… So I’m not completely shallow. ![]()
To me the last time that Melanie Griffith looked “good” was when she was 18 years old in the 1975 film The Drowning Pool. Terrible film, but Griffith was attractive.
Pinning Heche’s career track on her coming out is kind of ridiculous when it’s so much simpler to point out that she starred in a string of huge flops (Volcano, Six Days Seven Nights, and Psycho) and then had a complete meltdown.
Someone in the comments mentioned Hermione Norris and I thought that would have been a brilliant casting choice. Unfortunately, the studio’s about 10 years too late. I worry Page is a bit young for the role, if only because she looks even younger than what she is. However, I think she’s got the talent for it, so I’d be willing to go see it.
I think that’s incredibly naive, both the no one caring and everyone knowing. In particular, past speakers at HRC events have been Jeniffer Lopez, Pink, Sally Field, Anne Hathaway, Eric Holder, President Obama and, this same weekend, Chelsea Clinton. Their speeches got put up on YouTube by the HRC just like Ellen Page’s. And yet this is the one that made headlines and has 10-100x as many views as the others, because people care.
What’s the alternative? A career spent saying, “I don’t talk about my personal life.”? I mean, you say “coming out” as if it’s an event like a ‘debut’ or ‘cotillion’. It’s really nothing more than acknowledging that you are queer. Most LGBT people have to do it hundreds of times in any number of situations. Somewhat ironically, the majority of Page’s speech is dedicated to the reasons why it is still important for celebrities to do this.
I agree. Cedar Rapids is definitely worth checking out.
