Adam Carolla's The Hammer

I saw maybe 1 episode of The Man Show back when it was on and thought nothing of it. Other than that and new Top Gear gossip, I didn’t know anything about Carolla.

On a whim I tried his podcast and now look forward to it everyday. Absolutely hilarious!

It was through it that I heard about his movie The Hammer. I never heard of it. So I did some research and found people saying how unexpectedly enjoyable it was. I couldn’t agree more.

I watched it late at night and found myself just feeling good. The characters were all likable and fleshed out enough to advance the story. The female lead was gorgeous and very good. I found Carolla to be charasmatic and funny.

So… figured I’d share. Again, I never heard of it before and was very presently surprised. I’d say it’s right up there with In Bruges for unexpected enjoyment.

Anyone see it?

i think the man show is both the best and worst thing to ever happen to adam carolla. it was a tongue-in-cheek parody sketch show that a lot of people took to be serious representations of Adam and Jimmy’s actual persona. Jimmy was able shed it with his late night show, but Adam retained it and lots of people (fans and non fans alike) wrote Carolla off as just being sort of misogynist and crude.

If you like his podcast, you should do yourself a favor and hop on youtube and watch “The Adam Carolla Project” where he buys his dad’s house, renevates it, and tries to flip it. He does the construction with his unemployable jackass buddy Ray fro HS, Ozzie (from the hammer), and a few other friends he kept from his pre-show-biz days. It’s unintentionally hilarious.

Yeah, saw it on a whim and sincerely enjoyed the movie. Wasn’t sure what to expect but in the end its just a truly sweet story with enough cinematic ambition to stay afloat for ~90 mins.

I watched it a few days ago. Very good, very much written by and for Carolla. I miss his morning show.

On Family Guy, Carolla took over the role of Death from Norm MacDonald, and he’s quite good.

I miss him on Loveline. He and Dr. Drew balanced each other very well.

Adam got stung badly when making The Hammer. He mentions it quite a bit on his podcast, especially how the movie got an R-rating. It’s like the entertainment industry was out to get him on that movie.

I own The Hammer. Enjoyable movie. I’m a big fan of his Podcast and was listening to his radio show via Podcast back in the day. I’m very interested to see how his Podcast Network venture pays off.

He did get royally screwed with The Hammer. It’s a nice movie that should have been a big success and wasn’t because of stupid Hollywood politics and pettiness.

I agree The Hammer is a fun watch, aside from the first act though I wouldn’t say it’s worth repeat viewing.

Well we need to get it straight he is crude, and that includes his opinion of women. I don’t know if I would call it misogynistic though.

I will say some of the funniest stuff I’ve ever heard from him is when he is on Bill Simmons’ podcast with some ideas for movies. Like “Pedoph Isle”.

There’s a difference between only being crude and occasionally being crude. Carolla will be comically crude, but can also be comically tame and talks about plenty of topics that aren’t anywhere in the same stadium as The Man Show.

Misogynist? No, not any more than he’s racist or homophobic. He plays that up in his on-air persona, sure, but it’s pretty clearly for entertainment value. More than that, it’s a tongue firmly in cheek send up of actual racist misogynist homophobes.

Sometimes he plays shit up for laughs and sometimes he doesn’t. When you talk as much as he does, and he is a chronic ranter, you’re giving plenty of windows to your soul. A lot of comedians (and everyone else) try to sidestep criticism for their more insensitive and potentially troublesome opinions by saying they were joking, but I think even they know they were just saying what they think in a humorous context. Even if it wasn’t conscious, there’s always a reason some jokes occur to you more easily than others.

At any rate, I don’t think Corolla is particularly bad.

I have been a devoted Carolla fan since he started his radio show, and I have to agree that his rants are a glance into his soul. I never miss a podcast (except his Live at the Improv - something about performing in a bar just leads to too many dick and pussy jokes, and it falls flat for me), but I have to admit, sometimes Mr. singular and I wince and cringe through a few of his less than open-minded views. But Og love him, the man is freakin’ hilarious!
And I second The Adam Carolla Project.

Ok, I caught episode 1 of the Adam Carrola Project… god, I hate TLC. What a worthless channel.

The show is ruined by all the gimmicky music so typical of TLC ‘reality’ shows.

I think it would have been better as a straight up This Old House type serious show with windows into how screwed up they all are, allowing comedy to ensue.

The Learning Channel my ass.

He is of the great deadpan comics, reminds me of Norm McDonald. I’ve never heard of The Hammer, gotta get it!

Anybody remember the short-lived Adam Carolla Show? It had some good bits. He also did a regular bit called “Jackass of the Month” on The Jay Leno show.

I’ve heard nothing about this movie, but you should be forewarned:

The Hammer……is my penis.
