Adam Carolla radio show cancelled

Apparently they’ve decided to cancel his show in a programming switch to playing more Rihanna or whatever clearchannel forcefeeds us as “music”.

I’m really dissapointed as I’ve grown fond of his show since I discovered it was available as a podcast with the commercials cut out. It has been more interesting than Stern (who I also listen to sometimes) over the last few months I’ve listened to both.

He’s apparently planning some sort of solo 45 minutes a day podcast venture, but I’d imagine it won’t be as good. Are morning radio shows on the way out entirely, or is it just his?

Damn.

I used to listen to the show on the way to work. Then I started telecommuting two days a week and working eight hours a day instead of ten, and I found myself listening to NPR or KEXP instead.

It was a little weird listening to Adam Carolla and hearing references to my old stomping grounds.

I’m very disappointed. Sucks that his show is consistently in the top 3 in the area for ratings and heavily syndicated to boot, and yet is getting cancelled. Guess it just costs too much to actually have intelligent, talented people on the air instead of morons doing a “morning zoo.”

I’m bummed. My wife and I both listen while we drive our cars to our respective places of employment, and now we’ll have one less thing to talk about at the end of the day.

Plus, it’s been on in Phoenix for less than a year, and I really don’t want some morning zoo bullplop back on the air.

Oh no! I’m a dedicated Podcaster and I’m a few weeks behind so I didn’t hear about this until seeing this thread. What a disaster. I really hope another station picks him up. I’m going to really have to ration the shows I haven’t listened to yet, I love Podcasts while I’m commuting or at the gym and his was my go-to since there’s 3 hours worth every day.

This is so depressing.

This seemed inevitable even from the time of his first show back in 2006. Carolla was at his best on Loveline when he could mine the wealth of material from callers. Just riffing and doing his own theme-based bits for 3+ plus hours a day was just a bridge too far. It watered him down.

I didn’t hear anything about it till today and I’m up to date. It came very suddenly.

Does anyone know if there’s an archive of the podcast available? Itunes only lets you go back 200 episodes (and since each segment between commercials is an episode, that’s only a few weeks). Is there a way to bypass the 200 limit, or some other source?

Edit: Or for that matter I haven’t really heard loveline. Is that archived somewhere?

They could have mixed it up and done more call-in stuff for sure, but I’m not sure who the 3 hour show is so much different than the 2 hour show he did on LL. If anything the fact he’s able to open his rants up to the greater world as opposed to just sex and relationship stuff more than made up for it.

The only real complaint I had was that some of the regular guests were bad and they seemed too loyal to them. Larry Miller and DAG were painful and they showed up constantly and were kept for practically the whole show. They probably didn’t need to do Made Up Movie and Music Monday as often as they did since they got too repetitive. Working more phone calls in place of some of the tired bits would have been an improvement.

Well, is it too much to hope that he’d return to Loveline?

Really? Is this guy actually good on the radio?

My only exposure to him was his short-lived Comedy Central show, and it blew chunks. I didn’t find him at all smart or funny. Some people, though, are better on radio than on TV.

I agree with you - I thought he was terrible and wooden on The Man Show but he’s actually very smart and quick witted. He’s much better suited for radio than anything scripted. I was surprised by how good his radio show is at times.

I liked the Man Show but I agree radio and improv/speaking off the cuff is his strong suit. His show can be pretty thoughtful and covers a broad range of topics. When he was pigeonholed in sex/relationship stuff on LoveLine and T&A/Fart jokes on the Man Show it just wasn’t as good and his personality wasn’t nearly as apparent of compelling.

Just skipped ahead to listen to the Thursday Podcast to hear the story and Ace is saying that he’ll be doing a daily 45-60 min Podcast from his home as soon as this is over. It’ll be uncensored and free and available at AdamCarolla.com (site currently redirects to the Radio Station website, check back over the weekend).

A ton of archived Loveline shows can be found here: http://loveline.phil21.net/useraccess/all/
Enjoy!

Also, his movie, The Hammer, was pretty damned funny. I watched it last night, and enjoyed it more than I enjoyed about 90% of the movies I’ve checked out at the video store lately.

You are The Shit my friend.

I own and love The Hammer too. Strongly recommend it to anyone who likes independent films and romantic comedies.

I was a Stern listener, but I didn’t follow him to Sirius. I love listening to Adam’s show and look forward to his continued podcasting.

His joke today about giving Octomom’s kids to the crazy monkey lady had me in stitches.

Yeah it’s a shame that along with Adam’s show, the other talk shows on 97.1 are getting the boot as well. Frosty, Heidi and Frank are just comic gold.

Oh, man, is 97.1 (KLSX in L.A.) actually getting rid of Frosty, Heidi and Frank? I really hope not. What a bummer. Those guys get me through my work day. :frowning:
I miss a couple days of work and this is what happens.

I hope they get rid of Leykis, though. I’m sick of that guy (maybe 'cause he’s convincing guys not to date women like me 'cause we’re almost as fat as he is?:D) Also hope they stop advertising that dating service for guys who want to cheat on their wives, while they’re at it.

This is a damn shame. I shudder to think of what will replace Adam’s show, at least for those who listen over the air. But now it’s actually a good thing that I’m so far behind on the podcasts–I can portion them out over the coming weeks so I don’t run out abruptly once the radio show goes off the air. I’ll definitely follow the Ace Man onto his solo podcast thing, so at least there’s that, but it’s still disappointing news overall.

I read the paper after I posted - apparently KLSX is switching format to pop music as of 5:00 pm Friday. No more talk radio.
