By the way, does anyone else have the same gameplay quirk that I do? When you have a ball inexorably drifting down toward the Game Over Line, you start clicking on the ball like a madman in some futile effort to get it to slow down? For awhile there, I could’ve sworn it had a slight effect.

Is there some trick to controlling the ball’s speed? Do the bounces speed it up? I have a horrible time at the game. After about 10 games, my highest score is 3, usually a 1 or 2. Not being able to aim the shot makes it very hard.
Nope…the ball launches at a set speed, and nothing (that I can tell, anyway) speeds it up or slows it down other than standard friction.
The trick is in creating what I call “nests” of balls – loose groupings that allow you to shoot a ball into the middle of them, and have it bounce around like crazy, racking up points.

Not being able to aim it? Just wait until the turret is pointing where you want it to go - it moves in a regular pattern.
The ball speed is always the same, you just need to work out the path so that it has time to slow down.

That’s not aiming, that’s timing. A very different skill for me, at least.

I’ll keep trying.

sigh I agree, me too. I’ve gotten up to 14, mostly by “pinball style”, or getting one huge ball next to the wall and having it bounce back and forth, and then that ball will become a huge one. But then I’ll miss time it, and end up bouncing straight back down.
It can be a good thing to have a couple of big balls down below next to your cannon so you can shoot your white globs into a crevice. Once the white glob penetrates crevice, it can bounce around in the hole without fear that it will cum back at you.
Having just read Bearflag’s post, I’m a little hesitant to post this, but I must: I’ve found The Trick To The Game.
Now, I’ve been trying for three days straight to beat 19 points, and have continually failed. I just got out of the shower and came back to the computer to play a couple more games. I’ve played two games so far – First game, 21 points. Second game, 23 points.
Also, a smaller screen helps “aim.” My high score on my desktop was 8. I switched to laptop and jumped fairly quickly to 10, 12, and 18. A while later, I hit 28 then 30.
I scored a 33 this morning. My technique: I start by bouncing balls off the walls and trying to get them to land as close to the top of the screen as possible. I keep doing that until I screw up and pop one out too far. It grows into a big ball, then I shoot off the side wall at an angle to try to get the ball in behind it. If I’m lucky, I’ll have six or seven balls lined up near the top of the screen, and I just keep trying to billiard around to remove them.
These games are so addicting… I can see how my Friday morning at work is going to go. Game, check email, game, more game, Meeting, back to game and then lunch.
