Just for fun, I told my folks once at the same time that I was gay. (im not but I wanted to see what they would say). They said ‘okay.’
Never underestimate your folks they aren’t all Archie Bunkers.

Thanks for all the replies so far. He is going to tell his parents by himself. I know I should not be there, so I am staying home. I don’t want to see his parents start fighting. I also know if I am there, they will say that he is gay because of me. (I actually had that happen before, I just laughed at my friends mother. It was very funny eventhough she was serious.)

In regards to Enright’s question:
Possibly. I am aware that lesbianism is more accepted in today’s society than male homosexuality. But, on the other hand, I think that a lot of that acceptance is of the “lesbianism is okay in principle” variety, and everyone (and by everyone, I mean every quote-unquote “normal” person) thinks that it is an issue they just won’t have to deal with. You could not ask for a more open-minded family than my own, but it was obvious that the revelation was a very big shock to them, even if they did suspect.
So, the answer is a definite “maybe”. It doesn’t really answer your question, I know, but I simply have no basis for comparison. I suspect that it is, but it sure doesn’t feel like it. When I become a male homosexual, and try to come out, I’ll get back to you.
Modest? You bet I’m modest! I am the queen of modesty!
orangecakes: your husband was gay? Or bisexual? Did he know at the time he married you? Just curious.

Boy Opal. Yes,I met him in a drag bar. The guy who was my roommate was a closet dresser;he found this bar. My husb. was performing(he looked sortof like Debbie Harry but much taller). I fell for him,why I dunno. He was bi,had been with 5 other women. He was 28 when I met him. I knew he was sick(hiv+) but did not mind. He met my mum in the bar, she’d come to pick me up.Mom,this is Jeff. “Hi Jeff.” She was always cool about stuff. He was in drag when she met him
