Ahsoka (trailer in OP, spoilers as series airs)

Yup, and what we see through our telescopes is light that left a long, long time ago.

I agree, that seems to be the only thing that would accomplish what he’s trying to do. I think his reasoning is flawed though, we manage to have plenty of killing and war on Earth and we have no Force.

I think the only reason he wants all force users gone is because they are hard for him to deal with or control, they are the reason he lost after all. If he wants to be in charge the Jedi would oppose him and the Sith would not let him.

1.) Suprise cameo!

2.) Convince me this little guy didn’t yell “Oh fuck!” When he crashed.

He totally did. Reminds me of the “DIE, DICKHEADS!” guy in Return of the Jedi.

As disappointed as I’ve been with the portrayals of Ahsoka and Sabine I gotta say Ezra and Thrawn are both absolutely perfect.

This episode reminds me of a question I am not sure has been definitively answered: just how common is the knowledge that Darth Vader was former Jedi Anakin Skywalker? Does the whole galaxy know? Or just the few that were there? Some other thoughts:

It was cool seeing a Jedi eschew a light saber.

I am very glad the space whales made it out alive.

This might have been the best acted episode of the series so far.

Still wondering what the title of this episode meant, if anything.

Also wondering what is so important that Thrawn is delaying leaving to load it on his Star Destroyer.

A handful of people knew, whether they’ve chosen to share that is up in the air. I imagine it would have been a question the new republic was very interested in once they took over.

I think in the now-Legends stuff a few people knew and then it came out and drove Leia out of office. I am getting the sense that the guy who was yelling at Hera (the Resistance show’s protagonist’s father?) is going to find out and start that storyline.

I still don’t get this writing here. Thrawn was just buying time so he could sneak away? I just… it doesn’t make sense to me, even if I enjoyed watching it.

That’s his justification for failing. He thought he had it all figured out, and expected Sabine and Ezra to die, but two unpredicted things happened, which meant he had to improvise on the fly - Ahsoka showed up and evaded the attack; and Baylan Skoll skived off. So he saved face by claiming his secondary plan was his primary plan.

I enjoyed that episode. I’m a few episodes into Rebels now as well, and I agree they’ve got Ezra spot on. I haven’t seen any animated Thrawn yet but I’ve read the Heir to the Empire trilogy many times, and the actor’s doing a great job. Shame there’s no art, though. I wonder if the Noghri might make it into canon somehow?

I didn’t notice that last night. I’m going to have to tear myself away from that clip now….

Hope that wasn’t a rhetorical question and you don’t mind the “yes”.

Would it, though? He was dead, after all, and they’ve got a whole galaxy to fix. I imagine the origins of the emperor’s pet psycho who is dead would be a pretty low priority. There are enough Empire officials still alive to keep their investigations busy for many years.

That’s not how I mentally pictured the noghri, but still cool that he’ll be in Rebels. Something to look forward to.

Agreed. Thrawn prides himself on being a master of the long game. So long as Ezra is roaming around somewhere on that planet, it means that Ezra’s resourceful (and, to Thrawn’s eyes, mildly annoying) friends will try try to find him, and thus open a way for Thrawn to get back to his home galaxy.

Well, since Baylan was obviously intended to play a role in season two, I suppose the best bad option is to recast him.

Woof… that series was…not great.

I do appreciate that for all the endless fanservice…Thrawn is a moron. I was really afraid since Filoni is so in love with the old Expanded Universe that he’d fanboy over Thrawn but no… Thrawn sucks. He wasn’t tactful, he wasn’t cunning…he was ineffectual to the point of comedy. He only got back to the main galaxy because Sabine AGAIN effed up.

I wish they had decided to do something interesting with Shati(?)…but no she’s just going to rule over the bandits.

I agree mostly. I think this was done better than BoBF. Maybe I liked the actors more. However, the more I think about it, I have no idea what the series was supposed to be about.

The Return of the Empire? It looked like it might be the Empire hiding among the workers and bureaucrats but that was stopped? I mean one thing was stopped. I didn’t see everything being stopped. Other series showed Imperial remnants but again, nothing in this series showed the Empire returning. Further, I agree, Thrawn wasn’t shown to be great, more of a Xanatos Gambit winner than anything he did. Do I assume Heir to the Empire? Or will I get more of Thrawn’s story?

Was it about Ahsoka? Well, if it was, not sure what she learned or how she changed by the end of the series. She did go from grey to white but without knowing her thoughts, nothing seemed different from my perspective.

Was it about Sabine? Maybe? She probably changed the most but is that enough to make it about her? It also brings up all of the questions I had about who can use the Force and how powerful they can get. Is it anyone or is it family lines?

It wasn’t about Baylon because I have no idea what he was after. And will they recast him or drop it? It wasn’t about Shin Hati, either. Why would Shin go to the bandits? Best choice? Is it showing her choice is to not be good? That the bandits are her only choice? I have no idea.

A lot of Disney shows these days seem to be this weird thing to me. It’s like they are setting up the next thing. Then the next thing arrives and it seems like it’s setting up the next thing. Some plot happens but they don’t seem to be great stand alone shows or stories. It’s just plot to keep me watching. Is that the new plan? For that reason, I agree this was not a great series.

Thanks for the discussion!

This is the worst kind of fan service, imo. This needed to have a solid story, for long time fan or new viewer, that pulls them into the bigger world and leaves them wanting to know more. Instead, I get this thing that only someone who has Filoni’s whole body of work memorized could appreciate. It’s like Filoni reached into a grab bag, pulled out five topics, and told us the state of those things at this time. That’s not a story to me.

(Please note, I’m not saying that’s what Push_You_Down said, I’m merely crediting him with the inspiration for my own thoughts on this.)
