I know TubaDiva. I’ve met her one more than one occasion. I talk to her on the phone. I’m “in the loop” and she tells me what she really thinks about this subject. And I testify that she does not have any axe to grind with the protest boards, despite several recent attempts by some to manufacture cross-board drama. Nor, for that matter, does Ed.

Yes, I said “protest boards.” It sounds much better than “splinter boards”, which seems like it’s selling short/demeaning Giraffe and Mellopahant. I hated my board being called a “splinter board” or “offshoot”; I thought I would show the same courtesy. And the two boards would not have been started were it not in opposition to the changes in Rules and enforcement last April.
Protest board sounds -way- worse, IMO.
I was not trying to snark at Giraffeboard or Mellophant. If I was, I would have had the goddamn common decency and courage to have come out and said it. Amazing quality, that, I know.
“Protest board(s)” sounds neutral and slightly amusing to me. Lighthearted even. It made me think of a song by Dire Straits. As usual, what’s often amusing to me falls flat with others. Oh well, the fault is mine.
I don’t dislike the Other Boards in the least. I have an account on Giraffe and I had one on Mellophant until it was deleted by someone. The only reason I don’t hang out at either Other Board is that I have no damn time to do so. I spend less than 5 minutes per day on the SDMB most days as it is.
I’ll take you at your word here, Una. I suppose that we just disagree on what term is a better fit and what one is considered insulting.

Nzinga, you and I would probably protest at the hint of a possible injustice. But Giraffe’s Board is not protesting much of anything. That is the strangest board that I have found on the internet. It’s like Lewis Carroll meets Terry Southern on New Year’s Eve over there all the time.
