Personally, I think a prehensile tongue and an oral fixation could be a very endearing combination.
Attention: This post is not meant to pick on, belittle, annoy, insult, or bother the mods in general and samclem in particular. I am simply seeking a clarification of the forum rules. Really.
I seem to remember that this guy:  was banned from use outside the pit as it was deemed to be close to a personal insult. Is that no longer the case? Honestly, I’m just curious.
Until you try to quit smoking, anyway.
You’re mistaken. It’s not the case, and never was the case. I believe there were restrictions on using the former “putz” smiley, now retired, with reference to other posters outside the Pit.
Oh, great. Here comes Mr. Moderator with his “facts” and “helpful information”. Real nice.
[sub]I’m feeling a little punchy this morning. I think I need more coffee.[/sub]
:p:D
For the record, I was not, and am not, offended.
I get a kick out of these ads.
…
Thanks for the clarification.
We have a complaint that this thread generates an automatic download.
As in all complaints of this nature we need more information. I am querying the complainant now but I also need to give you all a heads up and I am soliciting for more information.
Let me repeat the instructions we give when there might be an instance of malware on the board – please let us know what you see, if anything.
f you think you see malware on the SDMB
If an ad on the SDMB has given you problems, please provide the following info if possible:
-
Time/date of occurrence.
-
Screenshot of the questionable ad (on PCs you can do this with Alt-Print Screen, then copy into Word, Paint, etc.), or a description of the ad.
-
Description of what happened. Did you click anything? If you were redirected, what URL were you directed to? Describe any related window or pop-up.
-
What page or thread were you on when this happened? What was the URL of the thread?
Please send all this information to sdmbtech@gmail.com
Thanks. Sorry for any inconvenience. Most of our advertisers are not intending to annoy or hurt you – just the opposite, they want to sell you something! – but there is that occasional bad apple that gets in. Please help us find and remove them as quickly as possible.
Am I reading this wrong, Tuba, or are you suggesting that this thread - and by implication the GB ads themselves - contains malware, Tuba? Because if so, that’s a pretty serious insinuation to be making.
I am not making the accusation. A member of the board reported this thread as so:
Though I could not duplicate the “automatic download” myself I did not discount the complaint and went on to alert for possible problem/asked for more information, which is what we’re supposed to do.
Since I did all this my fellow administrator Xash replied to our complainant:
<mod>
No such thing, Scissorjack. We received a report from a reader that this thread contained a download that contained malware.
We’ve been bit by this a couple of times. We’re not the only ones that have been bit. Please notice TubaDiva’s post. It’s straight, to the point, and is almost exactly the same as the posts she has placed in other threads that we have received malware reports about.
</mod>
Whew. Now that I’m out of those damned mod tags:
Stop being so damned sensitive about anything that mods and admins do. Did you ever stop to think that maybe we’re trying to help?
Now I feel like that guy that was traveling back in time to prevent some horrible plague only to find out that me traveling back in time is what started the plague in the first place
Looks like I caught (and caused) teh ADS.
You guys are talking about the airplane-giraffe.jpg? It auto-downloads for me too. Not sure why its extension is .jpg if it’s really .bmp.
I appreciate the clarification, TubaDiva and apologise without reserve for questioning or casting aspersions upon your integrity. Sometimes in the heat of argument it’s easy to get a little too invested in an “us vs. them” mentality, and start seeing dark motives in everything an imagined foe does: that was what I did when I posted in haste, and I apologise again.
 You’re out of mod tags?!
In the spirit of the Giraffe/SDMB glastnost detente, allow me to loan you some.

I can personally certify that Giraffe himself has never touched (or licked*) these tags. Feel free to use them as necessary until you get your next tag delivery.
Don’t ask.*
**Really…don’t ask. Or he’ll tell you about his tongue.
EEEEW Someone hand me a towel, please…Those mod tags Fenris brought me are…well…slightly damp…
Yet another one that has me laughing.
This is the first time I have ever followed a thread just to see the ads.
