Airplane! movie

I watch it whenever I need a little breather.

I have the strangest feeling we’ve been through this exact same thing before.

“He gets so excited when new people are here.”

“Oh, you got it, Mister! But you can tell your boys on the board for me that this thing stinks to high heaven of kickback!”

“Are you a pilot yourself?”

Bumped.

Finished Surely You Can’t Be Serious: The True Story of Airplane! by David Zucker, Jim Abrahams, and Jerry Zucker, which I enjoyed a lot for its wonderful anecdotes about the film as well as the authors’ memoirs…

I just want to tell you both good luck. We’re all counting on you.

It’s a totally different kind of flying altogether!

…Lonliness, that’s the bottom line. I
was never happy as a child. Christmas,
Ted, what does it mean to you? For me, it
was a living hell. Do you know what it’s
like to fall in the mud and get kicked? In
the head? By an iron boot? Of course you
don’t. No one does. That never happens.
Sorry, Ted. Dumb question. Strike that.

It’s a totally different kind of flying

“Well, to be honest, I’ve never been so scared. But at least I have a husband”.

This is my favourite quote from Airplane!, delivered perfectly by Robert Stack.

Written and directed by Ken Finkleman who was more famous in his native Canada for the TV show “The Newsroom” (not the Sorkin series).

Airplane! 2 was a much sequel than Caddyshack 2. But that is not saying much

I always liked Wally and Beaver’s mom speaking jive and translating for the flight attendant.

Airplane II was such a good sequel I didn’t know for years it wasn’t ZAZ*. It matches perfectly.

*“Why the hell aren’t I notified about these things!”

I had the opposite response. I thought it was a bit of a stinker, but didn’t know it wasn’t ZAZ, which I guess explains it.

I liked the courtroom scene where they’re talking about Buddy, Andy and Howie. Even better than the Roger, Victor and Oveur scene, IMO.

IMO, every scene with Shatner is perfect.

The bearded actor had a brief part in Back To the Future 2.
Too bad they didn’t include an Easter egg.

There’s a scene in The Larry Sanders Show where Robert Hays is faking out Paula by pretending to be sick. When she realizes it’s just a dumb gag she deadpans, “That’s really funny, Robert” and he brags, “Well, I was in Airplane II.”

I think that about sums it up.
