"Alabama roundhouse"

That’s odd - for many years I’ve had the term “alabama roundhouse” in my vernacular, meaning an at-speed, sliding U-turn by a tractor-trailer rig. That is, a “bootlegger’s turn” but with an articulated rig. I just went to search for a quick cite and got zero hits, even with added keywords and even looking directly in UrbanDic and other places.

Has anyone else ever heard this term? Or an equivalent one? I can’t believe it’s that obscure; I’ve used it in conversation with truck drivers, who knew exactly what I meant… I also can’t believe it’s been Orwelled out of existence. But it’s me against the e-verse… help?

Really? How often have you been able to work this into conversation?

Anyway it’s referenced in this book
Paradise Alley pg 101

And this poll

And I think I heard it on Hee Haw once.

But I just can’t let a thread die like this.
