Did Jesus love and forgive the Pharisees? Under what circumstances? Answer that and you may have a clue what is being said here. Because honestly I don’t think you’re getting it, at all. And that’s not an insult; it’s frustration talking.
Sure they do. You’ve seen me often enough around here to know I don’t quite measure up in the forgiveness department. On the other hand, I never tossed any of my family out to fend for themselves either. I grouse on the boards. That is a lot less mean spirited than actually abandoning family. I talk a lot of trash about people I dislike, who do things I think are wrong. I don’t do things that will do them real harm. It’s a huge difference. So, nope, I don’t feel any twinge of conscience in trashing Keyes any chance I get.
He seemed to love and forgive the ones who beat on their breasts and said, “God be merciful to me, a sinner”. But the ones who said, “I thank you, Lord, that I am not a sinner like Alan Keyes. I fast twice a week, and I tithe all that I get” - perhaps not quite so much.
Alot of us are just offended that ‘family values’ involves blaming people for genetic predispositions they (usually) have no control over and abandoning your family when they need you most because its the socially appropriate thing to do. I don’t care about forgiveness or holiness, this is just low and the fact that this is what passes for ‘family values’ makes it all the more revolting.
