OK, did the writers think that no one who watched this show might have seen Marathon Man? As soon as Bug started in on freeing Vaughn I was all “Marathon Man!” and the people I was watching with were all “what does that mean?” So I guess the writers maybe did think that no one who watched the show might have seen Marathon Man. But hey, extended scenes of shirtless chained up Vaughn, so no complaints from me on that score.
So much for Sloane’s big reformation. I wonder who the safe house speech was for, the daughter, the Bristows or himself?
I find myself thinking I’ve missed something. Sydney has been designated as The Chosen One, who will battle The Passenger to their mutual annihilation. But I thought the whole Chosen One thing came from the S1 Rimbaldi prophecy, and I thought that Sydney took herself out of the running for being the subject of that prophecy by climbing that mountain in Italy and looking upon the valley of his birth. Was there some other indicator that she is the Chosen One or have the writers just gone on a season-long screw up?
What message do we suppose Sloane’s daughter (what was her actual name again?) will channel now that she’s been shot up with the joy juice?
I doubt the writers have seen Marathon Man. What’s this for and/or where’s the story going?
The writers don’t know how to wrap this Rambaldi bullshit up. So it goes on and on. A damned never-ending story.
Her name was Nadia.
Nadia’s message…how about…that Sloane is actually a clone created from Rambaldi’s DNA. Sloane is merely Rambaldi’s physical twin but his genius and obsession with Rambaldi is due to this. That in order for his resurrection be complete, Sloane must transplant the brains of Nadia and Sydney into the latest “Rambaldi device”. The two girls secretly possess the memories and other mental aspects which was Rambaldi. That was the “real” message from last season. The device would implant these memories into Sloane and thus Rambaldi’s immortality could thus be achieved. Will Sloane survive is the question?
Sydney (the good) Rambaldi = Savior
Nadia (the bad) Rambaldi = Passenger
If the two/three if ya count Sloan (the ugly) waa-wa-waa are joined, they become Rambaldi and therefore neither of them will survive. Prophesy complete.
Sort of like a multiple personality spy guy/girl/uh…whatever.
So, how’s that for ya? I’ve practically given up on television but I do watch Alias when I get the chance.
BTW I was kinda disappointed the writers didn’t have the guts to make her sister a twin and then have Jennifer play two roles. I guess they were afraid they couldn’t explain the identical twins with different fathers along with the DNA thing in the story. The DNA satellite? hmm…they’d have done better getting rid of that crap and going with my idea instead.
Thanks Otto, for reminding me how you got the “Bug” moniker started.
Isn’t it neat though that she physically fits the name, too?
(And I should get half credit–I “did” know who Bug is, just not the etymology of the name.)
I agree that the writers most probably are familiar with Marathon Man.
MM’s dental torture scene with Sir Lawrence Olivier and Dustin Hoffman is forever branded in my mind. I can take gory torture, but ugh! the dental drill is the worst.
And what was with that “oh, we’re breaking out of prison and have guards on our tail, but let’s sit down and get to know each other” bit? And the brain-wave satellite? Yep, a half-naked Vaughn was the only way to redeem this episode! And I didn’t see Marathon Man, but I saw through Bug’s deception anyhow and was glad Vaughn was able to, too…now will his father be coming back to life in an episode real soon?
I made a conscious choice to disregard the brainwave satelite. There is no brainwave satelite. They just said “brainwave satelite” but they really meant something completely different.
Odd how completely unbelievable tech is acceptable if it comes from Rimbaldi 500 years ago but not if it’s modern-day…
(t-keela muttering to self) brainwave satellite genius not DNA satellite but eitherway
Bug=Vaughn’sWife (makes sense)
I only saw a few episodes but I’ll take your word for it.
Maybe one of the writers saw MM and tried to slip it by the others. Actually my reponse here and before is a weak attempt at sarcasm. Reflective of my disappointment in the writers for Alias lately. They make you wait for “an all new Alias” only to realize you’re watching a remake of an old movie. Not good
