Another question: Is there a way to scan for Nightmare games to JOIN when the character I have is on Hell difficulty? Or should I just shut-up and look at the HELP screen?
there is no way a Hell char can see NM games…
unless you have a NM char on the same acct that can spy you NM games, then type the game name out with the HELL char.
This can be done with Norm chars for NM chars or Hell chars too. I did this “gamename spying” for a lvl89 Hell Difficulty Sorc so i can go on chipped gem runs in act1 normal.
Another way to join an NM game with a HELL char is join the Cow Channels for the difficulty you want to play in. People in Cows Nightmare make Nightmare games you can play in. You can also ask the Characters in Cows Normal channel to tell you a game name of a nightmare game. (these channels can be joined by hitting the channel button and scrolling all the way down to the bottom of the channels listed). You can also try stabs at typing game names. Such as NM act1, NM act2, NM bloody run, or anything with NM.
the HELP thingy in the chat interface isnt that helpful. It just explains the many functions that are allowed when chatting, or stupid things like how to make a game or join a game.
stuff like /emote /whereis /join /help /msg or other functions and their aka’s.

Ok, so I found this 6 socket crusader bow (no add. properties). What’s the best combination of gems/runes/jewels (and in what order should they be in) to battle against the broadest range of monsters/bosses for an amazon that will use lightning fury (lvl 20)? I know that 6 perfect emeralds would do exponential poison damage, but is that the best solution?

If you are having problems with physical immunes, this bow can be a great secondary weapon. You can socket jewels with 1-100 Lightning damage, 20-40 Fire damage, gems have lower damages. Shaels can help you add speed per volley of arrows as well. Making a bow of this type needs more of a personal touch. If your amazon or bow-user needs plain physical damage you can always add a few %enhanced dmg jewels (I recommend not doing this because the damage upgrade from these jewels will be minimal at best.)
Best thing to do is get this bow as a secondary Elemental Damage bow of one type. Either go all out cold, fire, poison or lightning damage. This way you can be stacking on a elemental that you are weak in from your main attack weapon.
I would go all out lightning damage, if you have a Buriza as you main weapon, since this has good cold dmg. Or mix it up with fire poison and lightning.
Again, we need to know some details on your current character that is planning on using this bow. As a final note, this bow WILL NOT be a good primary weapon, there are many uniques, magicals, sets, rares that can best this bow even with jewels and gems in it.

I’m a little confused: Why would a Lightning Fury 'zon use a bow at all?
Sorry Snake, I meant that I was using the Freezing Arrow for the Bow; the Lightning Fury is for the Javelin/Throwing Spear (alternate weapon setup)…I should eat something so my brain can function…
I’m at the “I’m bored” stage (at least with one character in particular).
I don’t play on Battlenet, so I’m not worried about getting booted off and I’m just sick of waiting to find the missing pieces of a green item set.
In Diablo 1 there were all sorts of “trainers” that allowed you to hack your characters. I can’t find a single one for Diablo 2.
Anyone have a link to a character hacking program?

The character is close to a Hybridzon with max on Lightning Fury, Freezing Arrow and Valkyrie, and 1’s on everything else for now.
At lvl 77 my stats are close to (I think this is the base):
STR 120
Dex 130
Vit 110
Ener 110
More bad news; I lost my Skystrike Bow in a stupid move when I got killed on a cow level and re-equipped unknowingly and died again (some idiot herded the cows around the tp that was in a walled corner) and everyone died until one person got through and took my stuff (Skystrike, gemmed wyrmhide, gemmed hyperion shield, and Sanders riprap), so now I scavenging for stuff to survive.
Well that was a big loss Yeticus Rex… it’s not like you got popped wearing 40/15ias jeweled armor, a Windforce, M’avina’s Diadem and such… Your items are replaceable as far as worth and drop rates are concerned.
Collect gems (perfect and chipped) and you probably can trade for your lost items (mainly set and unique ones) and cow runs can net you socketed items rather easily. However, finding the jewels that you socketed would be harder. But again with what you have on, i doubt they were the impossible to find sort of items. So trading would be a good way to recoup your losses. Chipped gems, Perfect gems are easily obtained by playing hours upon hours. Use the Cube recipe to upgrade gems and you can hopefully find someone willing to trade a skystrike and sander’s boots for cheap (like 3perfect gems or 3 chipped gems). 30-40 chipped gems for a Buriza would be good (an overpowered ballista that does good dmg for a zon). Well, I’m not too sure about the trade rates since most vary from realm to realm and I don’t really trade anymore since the economy is in shambles.

I dont know what exactly you are looking for but I have a “hacking” program called Shadowmaster that allows you to alter skills, stat points, lvl and such… It is quite easy to use. You can “mule” using this program. Or export and import items. Create all runes and gem types and qualities. THIS IS A TRAINER/PROGRAM FOR ONLY DIABLOII version 1.09d!!! If you’re not using this version, log on to battle.net to download the patch or head to www.battle.net and find the latest patch there.
Just make sure to do a virus scan on the program, it is safe but you can never be too sure.
There are also item creators, i have one but can’t find the source where i downloaded it. It’s called Fuzzier’s item creator.

Waitaminute… Why the heck would chipped gems be valuable? The only use I know of for them is cubing to better gems, or cubing with some potions for full rejuv (which aren’t exactly hard to come by, anyway). Why would anyone trade a Buriza for any number of chips?
On battle.net, or Diablo2 in general, there is a cube recipe that uses CHIPPED GEMS…
Namely, 3 chipped gems and a sword will give you a socketed sword with magical properties. You can have a Prefix and a Suffix if lucky with 3 sockets (maximum).
This is good for cubing high end swords, such as Colossus Blades, Colossus Swords, Mythical Swords, Cryptic Swords, Champion Swords and I might be missing a few others that can get the CRUEL modifier. the CRUEL modifier gives 200-300% Enhanced Damage. If you are lucky you can net a nice suffix with the CRUEL prefix. Such as QUICKNESS, SWIFTNESS, ALACRITY or READINESS (speed modifiers) or EVISCERATION, BUTCHERY, CARNAGE (max dmg modifiers), life leech, mana leech, minus requirements modifiers and more.
the 3 chip recipe is used to get CRUEL high end swords with good modifiers.
Keep those chips, save them up and trade them for items, or you can cube them yourselves and get lucky making a CRUEL one with a nice suffix. Good luck tho, not many ppl have the luck of making a CRUEL sword.
and not just CRUEL, but GRANDMASTERS (+251-300 to Attack Rating, Damage: +151-200%), FEROCIOUS (+101-200% Damage) can be cubed too…
Just remember tho, only the high lvl swords can net you the good modifiers. There is no point in cubing Executioner Swords, Zweihanders and Balrog Blades, they won’t ever get the Cruel Modifier…
Oh well I be playing a bit at USEast. I hope this helped explain your question about the use and demand on Chipped gems.
ISTR that Executioners can get the Cruel modifier, Madawc. They’re actually quite popular to cube.
Sorry but this disproves your theory… you might be thinking about Colossus Blades, cuz no Exceptional Item can make a Cruel 3Socketed Sword. Only the 6 ELITE sword types can.

however you can cube Executioner swords, but getting the CRUEL modifier is impossible, you can probably get MERCILESS that does 50-100%ED or so which is no where near the CRUEL 200-300%ED range. You can get Ex.swords with the CRUEL modifier from monster drops and Merchant purchases, but for all intents and purposes you CANNOT CUBE a 3socketed CRUEL Executioner Sword. If you want to disprove me with a Closed Realm Example, I’d be glad to see one. (Most likely a hacked item brought in from illegal acts on the Closed Realm).
You might be thinking about 3Perfect Cube recipe on any Magical item and people are cubing this recipe to get a CRUEL Executioner Sword but this recipe doesn’t include 3 sockets and is a waste of Perfect gems since you can buy Cruel Ex.Swords from Larzuk in Nightmare and Hell difficulties…

Although I know next to nothing about Zons, it seems to me that by your level you should be using something a little more powerful than the items you lost. I don’t believe I have a SkyStrike, but I have plenty of bows and other Zon gear that I don’t even use. You see, I’m a bit of a pack rat, so you’ll help me be a little less of one by taking some gear off my hands!

I like Diablo II, been through it a few times, a few Palis, an Assassin, not as keen as y’all, never been on Battlenet, always single player.
Just thought I would drop in a post because, when this thread first started, it inspired me to dust off the CD and have another go. Just for fun I tried a Sorceress (named “Chlamydia”), what a gas! It’s certainly different to use a character who doesn’t melee. The blizzard spell’s been my mainstay, with firewall my backup. Level 4 blizzard just eradicates packs of monsters. I just dropped Diablo in his tracks this evening, chugging full rejuvination potions (used 4), blizzard didn’t seem to affect him but I went toe-to-toe with firewall and it put him down surprisingly fast. Level 28. Now that I’m over that hump I’ll build up to 30 in level 5 and get at some of those primo spells at level 30. Guess I’ll have to try the cow level and see if blizzard is good for a cow holocaust.
