Is this going to be on East or West?
west
Yep. For some reason we have all gravitated to the West side.
The Dark Side, more like. I’ll just have to be content with getting my pure summoner Druid past Diablo.
Tomato, Tom-ah-to
As I said earlier, I’ll be creating multiple characters. I’m not going to enter my name on the list yet because I know that Yeti liked his Lightning/freeze arrow javazon and densa worked well with his necro. I will make each of those characters, but I will make a character specially made for the SD group to compliment the party. If I make a barb for the group, he will be concentration/BO with a point in berserk and probably have a few in WW for escape. I’m not good enough using a sorc to make a primary sorc but I’ll try to create a viable sorc to assist us if she is needed.
I’m going to consolidate my mules and delete emptied characters from my present accounts so I will have the same account names… numbnut1. numbnut2, and numbnut3.
I don’t mean to tread on you, Who_me?, but I’d suggest that, assuming only decent gear, of the chars you listed I’d go with the conc barb. That’s just me, though.
Don’t worry about treading…
I put the barb in there because I don’t know anyone that really does barbs on West at the moment besides theckhd and he’s doing his pally. I don’t mind a barb in parties, but I prefer the others when I’m alone and soloing. It’s a good bet that I’ll be doing the barb spot in the group just because it’s a needed component of the group.
I am working on trying to get the DSL to work on the D2 PC, but it is not going so well. fizzy has since lost the install CD, so, after searching the verizon website for the driver (and trying google, neither of which were muchly helpful), I called customer support, where a nice man named Ken (who actually spoke decent English, though when he got to speaking fast it was difficult to understand) directed me to a place where I could download the driver for this particular type of modem.
I did that, and extracted the zip file to the D2 PC’s desktop, and plugged the USB cable into the appropriate places and told it to look on the desktop for the driver so I could get my D2XP on.
No dice.
I rebooted on advice from fizzy’s half-sister, and I figured it couldn’t hurt anyway since I had already played several hours of modern-age Civ3 on a machine that is almost six years old.
No dice.
ckhd tells me to put the files in a folder. I do, and so now of course something else goes wrong. The blue cord connecting the DSL modem to the D2 PC isn’t being recognized by the PC. I do some more song and dance, nothing. I reboot, I cold boot, I turn off the modem for a minute (verizon says this can sometimes remedy problems. I figure it’s worth a shot). I cold boot again. I reboot again.
Who bribed the gods to curse my Battle.net efforts?
Hmmmm… I was checking the FAQ’s for installing drivers. I found This pdf for installing the drivers on machines using Win 98se. It only works for 98se and I believe that’s the OS you’re using IIRC.
Now this says using the CD, but it should work if you have the proper driver on your desktop.
Right now, I think the issue is getting the computer to recognize the blue cord, which it was doing up until I got the driver files into a folder.
It gets better. B says now I can install it on her machine. So we start a hunt for the install CDs.
I have at least 3 copies of the expansion disc and at least two install discs.
No play disc. I have looked far and wide. I will look some more, but if I can’t find it I will either have to get one from someone else or buy another copy of D2. It’s not a lot, it’s just annoying.
I will definitely be on the SD team, and I’ll be playing either another fire sorc or a paladin (I’ll decide once we see how others are going). If we want a communal clonekiller/bosskiller paladin, I’m also willing to put in some time on that, but we can probably wait a bit on him, since he won’t be needed until Hell, and he only needs to be in his 50s to be effective in a party.
iampunha, do you need the play disk to install? Because you’ll be using the expansion disk to play, of course.
Need playdisc to install. Lamentably, my jumpdrive is not large enough to hold a 750 meg file, but ckhd and I are doing something with his ftp site.
Chronos, would you mind running a hammerdin?
No - you say “tomayto”, I say “Goddamnit, I’m seven or eight hours ahead of you and so cannot join in.”
If we run at night. Depending on how things go rest of the summer, I could be on in the morning or afternoon to match your evening play.
There’s also having you run chars at times when we aren’t on, so as to get more XP and more drops. Some (I’m looking at you, ckhd;)) won’t care for that, but I dunno that I’d object:)
I was anticipating you running after 6pm local time, which would be in the wee hours here.
Nifty.
What I’d be happier doing is setting up my own account with a character of my preference, but leaving the password with MDSL or yourself so anyone who’s shy a character can borrow it - well, him, as I’m on a pure summoner Druid kick right now - and the rest of the account can be used for making mules. Would that be a hassle?
I like having my own characters also. While I don’t mind making a community type character, I like my own and setting them up the way I like them.
As for the party, I doubt seriously that we’ll have everyone playing at the same time very often, so I’m not going to select one character to play (sorry punha;)). I’m going to make several characters and use the one that compliments the group better. Since Chronos is the only one so far saying they may make a sorceress, I’ll start with a meteorb sorc to use when he’s not on. I figure 2 sorceresses won’t be too much as long as I don’t go all fire as he will.
Larz//densa is not on the Dope any longer, so I’ll ask him when I see him online what he plans to do.
Well, since people are being hesitant to sign themselves up, i’ll encourage them by doing it for them. From the rumor mill (read: punha and who_me?) i have an idea what people are thinking of playing. Here’s the current tentative list:
note that these are in no particular order. If we want, we can designate “starters” and “bench warmers”, but i doubt we’ll need that sort of distinction, nor do i think we really want it. This isn’t a race or a competition, just a method for maximizing efficiency.
If you’re listed to play something you aren’t planning on playing, speak up already!
And i have no idea what you’re talking about punha, i don’t have a problem with him running characters whenever he wants. Just not on my personal accounts.
