Yeah after reading a bit on battle.net I think I’m gonna shy away from lightning.
Meteorb looks like a good build, but I’d like to get higher cold dmg with Orb, is that possible or would it be better just to have fire do the high dmg?
Lvl 49 looks for that sorc, shouldn’t be too hard to get, although I admit, that sorc is probly gonna do a lot of melee’ing :p.
My preference is to play a trapper assassin or a melee paladin, probably Holy Freeze, though I could be talked into a fanatic, holy shock, or an avenger.
You can get high orb damage, but using the same number of points you can get considerably more fire damage. What I would do is to use orb as more of a slowing skill and get your meteor doing the real consequential damage.
So equip her with a fast attack weapon on weapon switch and use that. She will probably not be a fearsome character, but she will at least be useful for getting chars to lvl 20-40.
I think it might be wise for there to be more than one barbarian come New Ladder (henceforth abbreviated NL). Given a conc barb, my suggestion would either be a straight-up ww barb (you’ll want to avoid weapon mastery until you find something useful) or a leap attack barb. They tend to be forgiving in the area of damage, and I read something about leap attack synergies being useful for keeping enemies rather still and hugging the boundaries of rooms. I know that makes no sense; does anyone else remember reading anything about that?
For cold immunes, there are the goblins on WSK2 (both exploding and non-exploding types), blood bosses on 3, oblivion knights on 3 and Throne, and vampires in Throne, and for lightning immunes, there are also beetles on 2, skeleton mages on 3, stranglers on 3, and I think also one of the types of succubus. Plus probably some of each that I’m forgetting.
For spirits, I’m guessing that only the higher level one takes effect. At least, that’s the way that paladin auras and barbarian cries work, and I suspect that spirit auras are handled exactly the same way as paladin auras. Still, it’d be a good idea to diversify, since multiple oak sages won’t help, either.
Incidentally, a sorceress with maxed lightning resistance and modest energy shield can survive a pack of Black Souls long enough to get off three or four (non-delayed) spells. If your damage output is high, this is enough. It never takes me more than two fireballs (usually only one) to kill a normal Black Soul, then usually another two or three to clear out the ones I missed and finish a boss.
And at this time I’m planning on a repeat of my fire sorceress, so the list is now
I’ll cement my plans right now for a LF Javazon /FA Bowazon Hybrid…if warranted, I can make a tank with my Valk later on in levels. I will probably fill out my lightning synergies in the lower levels and then start filling out my freeze synergies on the higher levels.
theckhd, as for unloading our current gear on ladder, I’m kinda torn on letting go of my upgraded perfect (200ed/9LL) Titan’s…but what would it be worth in terms of runes? I know at least Pul+Lum…can I possibly get an Ist or even a Vex for it?
How a about a full set of Trang-Ouls?
A full set of IK?
Or just keep them to cruise around in non-ladder play?
Also, as a secondary character…I could do a fanatizeal paladin tank.
Also, did we also agree on the idea of having “Og” in our account names or our character names? For a character(s), I would probably have “YeticusOfOg” or “YeticaOfOg” or “Yeticus_of_Og”, “Og_Yeti”…anyone else doing this? The thought being that we we’re going to be the “Og Clan” and infiltrate in all of the ladders with our “Ogness”. Or we can use SDMB in our accounts/char names, but that’s 2 extra letters to consider when naming our chars/accounts.
Another thing…I would abandon our current “Diablo 2 Account Names” thread, and start a new one up, so there wouldn’t be some new SDMB’r/D2’r getting confused by looking at our older ladder names from this season. I’ll start one when the new ladder starts.
I don’t know if we agreed on it per se. I think it would be useful to have something clearly identifying us to each other. Whether that’s SDMB, Og, or something else is up for discussion as far as I am concerned.
For the love of Og, you people type too much. Let’s see if i can respond to all of this:
I will try and find the correct formula for you this evening. iampunha is correct that only actual skill points spent count towards synergies, so any +skills items only affect the base skill damage.
Contrary to popular belief, lightning sorceresses can be quite good. Sokkerman has one, so i could ask him for details, but i believe he uses lightning/chain lightning since they synergize. He also has a blizzard sorceress, which is good for large amounts of area of effect cold damage.
Personally, i think i’d rather see you go with Blizzard than Meteorb, since Chronos will already have a large fire damage output. My sorceress pairs Meteor/Fireball with Blizzard quite effectively. If you really want to try Blizzard, try pairing it with a spammable spell like fireball or lightning. I’d be willing to bet that a Blizzard/lightning or Orb/lightning sorceress would be pretty good. Black souls could be problematic, of course, but that’s what your cold damage (and more importantly, other party members) are for.
I’m not sure what it would be worth, but generally perfect things go for more, and that’s especially true of a heavily-used upgraded item that’s perfect on both variable stats. My guess is it’s probably up in the high rune to several high rune range.
Full Trang-Oul set is cheap, as is a full IK set. In fact, if you want either of those just ask, i can get ahold of them pretty quickly. IK armor is worth ~Pul, and that’s the only expensive part of that set; Trang’s set pieces all go for <Pul.
No, i don’t remember ever hearing such a proposal. I intend to stick with my usual method of coming up with a pun of some sort for each character. I don’t think we really need clan tags, there aren’t that many of us. Don’t let that dissuade you from doing it though.
Found you an answer Chronos: This site has all the info you could ever want about a sorceress.
Clicking on Damage Order on the left pane gives you another page, which explains all about weapon and skill damage (skill damage is near the bottom of the page, with info about synergies and such).
Death’s Hand and Guard for CBF, 30% IAS, high psn length and res. Vidala’s Fetlock and Ambush for frw, +dex and +res. Pluckeye short bow for mana leech and +2 mana/kill. Dual Cathan Seals, Sigil and Visage for 12% life leech, +20 str (for boots), FHR, 25% mf, cold res, +mana, defense. By lvl 14, she has all her gear on (Vid’s is the last to get equipped). I can equip a Tir Tir helm at level 13 without losing much. I just don’t know if the leech and +/kill from Pluckeye will be enough. A Tir Tir Tir Tir Composite Bow might be a better idea.
I made my sorc with Meteor and Chain lightning. She is ok. Chain lightning is a great spell when you have a few enemies to bounce the lightning around to. They tend to get hit quite a few times.
The thing about lightning is that it takes a lot of synergy to make them hit very hard. Even then they don’t give reliable damage. My range is (I think) 2-3600 damage or something like that. Not real impressive, but ok for something that does 10 hits.
I don’t know if I want to use the Og identifier. I may pick it up for a couple of characters, but I prefer to have my own idnentifier or a pun if I can. ED I usually place in the mornings here 8am-10am CST and then late at night say, 10pm-12am. I work most of the other hours, but I will probably see you on at some point
punha, I’m not sure why you’re stacking so much mana per kill on an enchantress. An enchantress, of all classes, doesn’t need mana in the middle of combat. She enchants herself, her hireling, and her party’s minions in town, then talks to the healer. Step outside, enchant party members. If seven castings is enough to drain her mana, then she ducks back inside again and talks to the healer again, and after that she won’t need mana at all for another twenty minutes or so. This is especially true since an enchantress is going to be maxing Warmth anyway for the synergy, and wearing a lot of fire skill equipment which’ll pump Warmth even more.
Also, be warned that the communal mule account has used up a lot of Og names. Although I wouldn’t have thought to use “Og_Think” on a barbarian, so maybe you’re just more creative than I.
And theckhd, I read over that page you linked, but it’s only for weapon-damage skills like Bash or Vengeance, not direct damage skills like Fireball. I noticed that it said that synergy bonuses depend on average base damage, and thought that that might be the cause of my problem, but going over my numbers, I find that the ratio of max damage to min damage does not change with synergies, mastery, or equipment bonus, only with level of the skill itself. This indicates that those bonuses are indeed operating both on min damage and on max damage, as I had thought.
My best hopes lay with the server side content update. It could mean new items, but I’m hoping it means that Blizzard is doing something about the botters.
She isn’t an enchantress. She’s an amazon who gets enchant put on her. I’m also thinking I might try to stack lots of poison damage on her in case a sorc isn’t online for enchant.
I have a few creative names left yet. I had been informed at PADope by ckhd that some Westers had made a bunch of Og pretenders (there can be only one true Og), so I knew it might be a challenge to think of a good name.
However, Og_think for a concentration barb? Not all that original;)
Eight months to the day yesterday was when 1.10 became available…it makes me wonder if today, tomorrow, or July 1st will be the reset date. I’m keeping my Titan’s but I want to get my runes upgraded as much as possible tonight. Just thinking out loud…
Another thing, I think the level of rune in the hellforge quest is related to the number of players in that game…punha got a pul (with 4-5 players), and I got a hel (by myself) in NM.
Nope, i’ve gotten hels and ists from large and small games alike. It does however depend on the number of people completing the quest at one time. Only one rune drops, so if 3 or 4 people are completing the quest at the same time, you’re more likely to get Um+ from it. Characters not completing the quest have no effect.
Sorry Chronos, that’ll teach me to post a link without thoroughly reading it :smack:
I’ll keep looking. I’m amazed i can’t find anything in the diabloii.net statistics forum. I’ll keep looking later, because it’s soon mule rushing time.
