All Diablo2 Talk here.........

Our Diablo Clone popped up in the Stony Field unexpectedly. We weren’t in a ladder game; I had my 94-zon, my son had his 85-sorc. We didn’t sell any SOJ’s, but the little ticker kept giving us updates or how many were sold. Our Clone was one tough cookie…we asked two more players (97-frenzy barb I think and a 93-sorc) to come on and it still took 25-30min. to finish him.

Well, as the idiot that I am, I decided to play a mule that didn’t have enough play time to become permanent. 3 hours later I had a level 19 fire sorc… As if I NEEDED another character to play… She is fun though… Maybe I’ll stick to playing her for a while… The synergies add a lot…
ARRRRRGGGGGG!!!

One day I’ll actually play a character long enough to get to hell…

I feel you there. I have been working this level 46 asn for as long as the patch has been out and I’m constantly tempted to begin another char. I really want that dang unique claw and I have to get to level 72 to use it I think…much less finding it!

Chronos and I were on the West and his sorc’s fireballs were really tearing it up…we both noticed that it had a larger area of effect too. My son also joined us as well for a couple of acts…his druid is “disguykildurdog” (what a comedian) and his account name “squidfry”. He’s not your typical doper, but he’s a typical d2’r…

It was nice to play in a 2-3 player game, though, just so I’d have a chance to use Meteor occasionally. In 1 player, the monsters are all so weak (so far as I’ve gotten, at least: Act V normal) that a single fireball kills them without waiting for the death from above. But just wait 'till Nightmare and Hell difficulties, when fire-immunes start showing up on a regular basis… You noticed, Yeti, that I let you kill the Grand Vizier of Chaos singlehandedly?

And I noticed that both your character and your son’s were hybrid builds. How viable is that? I had always understood that amazons needed to choose bow or jav/spear, and that druids needed to choose shapeshifting or elemental, to hold their own.

Who else plays on West, by the way? Yeti and son yesterday were the first time I’ve found any Doper on.

Hybrids were very viable in 1.09. Still will be now, except poison javs will be harder to do (they require a lot of skills to pump up the synergies). But a Frozen Arrow/Lightning Fury zon is very doable:

20 Frozen Arrow
20 Ice Arrow
20 Lightning Fury
8 Critical Strike
7 Pierce
17 Valk (or 17 with skills)
3/4/3 Dodge/Avoid/Evade
5 Strafe
rest in Penetrate

As for getting the World Event to trigger, the best method is simply to stay in a Hell game for as long as possible.

That was what I did the one and only time I tried to get the World Event. I was home doing other stuff and I decided to just sit in a game and watch the SOJ count go up and see if the event would trigger. I cleared Stony Field and entered and exitted Tristram without killing anything in there. That way, when Dclone came I would know exactly where he was, Tristram.

There’s a few ways to park your character in a game and make sure that the game doesn’t time-out on you. With a sorc, the best way is to just sit in town with Eshield set on a mouse button that you have weighed down with some heavy object so that you just continously cast Eshield and you don’t get time-out due to inactivity. For other chars you can figure out different methods, sometimes you will have to just barely leave the town perimeter to use a skill that you aren’t allowed to use in town.

Do this when you’re home for a while, or even over-night so that you’ll have a Dclone in the morning when you wake up.

When I was successful, I was playing non-ladder in a passworded (SDMB///CECIL) game, in Hell of course. I didn’t sell any SOJs or talk to any merchants. I was lucky in that shortly after Dclone arrived, Who_me? showed up and assisted in taking him down. It didn’t appear that I had a chance to beat him solo with my sorc, though my Pally would have probably been able to go it solo.

I still owe Who_me? a Dclone assist since I got the charm that time. Maybe we should have an official game name for SDMB’ers trying to trigger the World Event. How about SDMBWE///CECIL ? That way, we could collectively keep a game constantly open and maximize our chances of triggering the event. Of course, it would probably have to be non-ladder until we all have characters on ladder that are capable of taking on the Dclone.

I just created my first ladder character ever, a druid named StringfelowHawk, so I’ll either be in a ladder on SDMB or using my non-ladder Barb, Tuefulhunden on SDMB1 (or SDMBWE, if that’s open)

Or perhaps tomorrow. The new wife is calling first dibs on my time…

Er, surely that way you’d know exactly where he wasn’t? Stepping through the Tristram portal generates the monsters for Tristram, including the bosses.

What kind of charm do you get from the DClone?

Nope, that’s where he was when voltaire and I killed him.

Damn, you snuck in there Fenris. Since I can’t access any D2 sites at work, I don’t want to tell you wrong. Check out diabloii.com. It’s a very nice charm with a lot of plusses.

Actually, the Clone generates from the next superunique you encounter after the “Diablo Walks the Earth” message appears, regardless of where you’ve been, what you’ve cleared, what you’ve sold, etc.

So what sort of build would you guys recommend for a werewolf druid? I’m level 41 now(Cale_Knight, for those’ve you who’ve played with me), so I figure if I’m screwing up my points, it’s not too late to fix things.

On that note, I’m going werebear with StringfelowHawk and, with the exception of one point in Poison Creeper, I’m socking away all points until I get up a ways. Oh, and I’m dumping almost all early points into strength. I was only able to play for 30 minutes or so yesterday, but I’m lvl 6 or 7, so throw some ideas out there and I’ll see what I can build.

Max Fury, WW & Oak Sage as soon as possible, then work on Lync. Haven’t played one in 1.10, and actually haven’t even looked at the synergies, so something like Rabies or the Fire attack may be viable as well.

Chronos,
At level 27, I’m still putting one skill point on each skill available and when I get over level 30, I’ll start applying them to favor a (lightning)javelin/(cold)bow amazon…Munch has a good recipe for me to follow there. I’m still pretty weak, but as I find better weapons and start using the synergies effectively, I should have plenty of fun higher up in levels…

Hey Fenris - are you East or West or both?

I think you’re probably right on that, it makes sense. But it still supports my method. If you clear all of Stony, you can safely walk from the WP there to the Tristram portal without encountering any superuniques. Then, when you get to Tristram you’ll always have a few there for Dclone to spawn on. The confined space and the buildings in Tristram make it a good place for taking on Dclone.

East.

I’m currently trying to figure out a way to up the hell out of my cold resistances so I can survive Frozenstein(?).
