Rerolling only results in another blue. If it’s coronets you want, gambling is your best bet (ha!).
As for crafts, there are a ton of good ones. And in 1.10, they’re incredible. Since rares can now spawn with both Cruel and Grandmaster’s (resulting in over 400% ED), the blood craft is perfect (guaranteed leech, as well as more ED) for weapons.
Also, 3 flawless + magic results in completely random blue mods plus a random number of sockets. Could be 1, could be 6 (or the item’s max).
On SP yesterday, I hacked up some runes for Breath of the Dying (just to see it, I deleted it later) on a 1.07 ethereal bezerker axe. Aichewawa! I threw it on my zon, and rushed through a Normal Baal run in about 6 minutes! That lvl 20 Poison Nova is incredible (and monsters killed with it also get the 50% chance to cast! I had 4 go off in a row - completely cleared the room).
Here’s the thing… I know that I can’t kick butt in two elements (at least not to the degree I’m doing so in fire): The points just aren’t there. Level 10, say, chain lightning would still be slow enough to kill that I’d want some allies doing damage anyway, and if I have allies doing non-fire damage, I can afford to specialize. And with the synergies, I can find a good home for every skill point I can get, somewhere on the fire tree. I’ll agree that a few spells from other trees are essential, but they all work fine at low levels, and I’ve got a staff on my alternate weapon with plusses to teleport and static field. Ideally, that weapon-switch staff would be a four-socket staff with natural plusses to teleport and an ice armor, and the memory runeword (plusses to static field and energy shield): That way I’d get all of my useful non-fire skills without wasting points. I haven’t found that yet, but I trust that I will eventually.
Has the imbue quest been significantly improved in 1.10? Because every 1.09 imbue I’ve ever used has been garbage. Only three affices each time, and usually stupid things like increased light radius or +1 to maximum damage. On a craft, even if I get bad random mods (which I usually haven’t), I at least have the guarantee of getting my 3% life steal or whatever.
Oh, and as to that Atma’s armor, a Hel isn’t enough by a long shot. It requires 125 str, and my sorc has 60 (enough for Mage Plate and plated belts). I could eventually pump my strength that high, but I’d much rather raise my vitality to the point where I can occasionally survive being hit. No matter, though, I’m sure I can find a good home for it with another Doper (yes, this is a shameless bait to try to get more dopers on West).
Anyone have suggestions for lowering my ping rate? [insert sexuality joke <here>] Seriously … if I’m lucky it’s 2K in Hell runs, and more often over 4K. This does not make living easy. I somehow made it to 7 mil from lvl 89, but two deaths (unable to retrieve body due mainly to really REALLY heinous ping response. I surpassed 10K at one point) kinda ended those hopes for a while yet. I’ll do countess runs because in those I can lag and still (mostly) live.
A big thanks to Fenris for walking my necro through Andariel and Act II. I’ve still got some leveling to do, but that’s another step onthe way to NM and joining the rest of you guys.
Wow, I just keep getting my rear handed to me by the Ghoul Lords in NM Arcane Sanctuary. I’m tearing through the other monsters and then 2 seconds later I’m paste. It’s possible that my -6 in fire resistance is doing me in…but they seem to take a good chunk of life even when I’m not being roasted.
Ghoul Lords do two types of fire damage … and they also have that freezing touch thing. They do fire wall and fire ball, and neither is exactly pleasant like a warm summer day. What’re you using gear-wise, skillwise and charclass-wise?
level 44 paladin, level 21 zeal and holy freeze, with some points in sacrifice and resist cold (for the synergies), manald heal, spirit shroud, zakarum’s hand, a ring that gives me some life leech, a rare amulet that gives me ~11% resistances to all, a rare crown shield, some rare heavy bracers, a rare sallet that adds elemental resistances, and rare greaves. Alot of my gear adds resistances, but only the ammy gives me fire resistance. I’m not seeing any gear that would give me a decent fire resistance without hurting another resistance or hurting my defense.
I could use the socket quest from normal to add a socket to the armor and throw a ral rune in there, but I’m not sure that’s the best use for it.
maybe a point in salvation or resist fire? that can help.
If you are loving that rare crown shield, why not socket it with a Perfect Diamond. All resists +19.
Can your merc handle the ghoul lords? Maybe just sit back and sic ur merc on them while you dodge the firewalls and fireballs and take down the goatmen and ghosts.
21 points in zeal isn’t a waste? It doesn’t add dmg per skill point, only AR. What about a dmg enhancing aura like concentration or fanaticism? Holy freeze can be obtained from an act2 NM defensive merc, why invest points in it when u can hire a merc to do it.
I wouldn’t use a RAL on a socket just for Fire Res. Ral rune has a good purpose for crafting. PAmethyst, magic jewel, RAL and amulet gives you a crafted caster amulet.
And I do recommend that you specialize your fire res in Arcane for now. Make your other res like poison low or cold res low and keep your fire and lightning res up. Since the Summoner has a deadly firewall and the lightning spires can do massive dmg…
Hey Pun, if you’ve got a chance in the next week or so, could you give me a rush through Hell? I’m dying a LOT!
And I like higher Zeal numbers too. The attack rating means that there’s a whole lot less of the dreaded “woosh” of a missed attack. Use the “Zeal” as the default attack and combine it with a high Convict. or Fanat. and, along with a half-way decent life/manna leech you’ve got a kick-ass character.
Heh - this is why I stuck four P-Diamonds in a Jeweller’s Crown Shield. It’s quite nice starting Hell at 35% resist all without using any other gear or charms.
actually zeal does add damage now. After level 5 instead of swings you get increased damage. Not only that but sacrifice adds 12% damage per level. And holy freeze adds a decent amount of damage as well. I can’t recall off the top of my head what it is adding, but I’ll check.
The other build I favored was a zeal/fanat paladin, but I wanted to try something new since they beefed up the elemental auras.
ah, at level 21 zeal is adding 210% attack rating and 174% damage. and holy freeze is adding 320-327 damage. Thats with 6 points in sacrifice and 4 in resist cold
well, I got past the ghoul lords without too much trouble…I was just more cautious about fire. Smacked duriel around pretty easily. He dropped a string of ears and a manald heal plus 2 or 3 rares that I didn’t want. Speaking of which does anyone want vidalia’s fetlock or the arctic mitts for a low level character? Or a manald heal ring, I don’t really need two.
vidalia, vidala…whatever. Now that I’ve slogged through the jungles of act 3 I’m sure the next time I go online there will be 8 people in a game who could have just zipped me past those. I hate act 3!
Come on people, I feel like I’m talking to myself here.
Galrion, if you’re trying out zeal pallies, you should check out the damage you can get with zeal + holy shock: ~1-4000 lightning dmg added to attack and 1-550 dmg to everything around you at level 20 with synergies, and it only gets better with more +skills.
Lightning immunes in hell aren’t any fun though- still need a good party for that.
Also, anyone need a Pierre Tombale Couant partizan or a Stormeye? I don’t want to create another mule…
Maneb I do have holy shock as my switch aura for cold immunes, but I liked cold because it had the benefit of slowing down enemies and the damage minimum is much higher
I did get a chance to play a bit yesterday after getting back in town. punha, I have several runes for you and some chips when we get online at the same time. I also have a decent 1-handed sword, Plague Bearer (?) for anyone who needs.
My javazon is in act3 of hell now at level 74. I finally got my poison damage over 1000, so I’m going to work on the lightning for the next couple or three levels before going back to poison. The zon works great on everyone except the lightning immunes, none of the javelins I’ve found so far do a lot of physical damage so poison is my only option besides running and hiding for them.
Quick newbie question (damn you all, by the way, for this thread – it’s gotten me readdicted to Diablo!): is there any way, absent a LAN, to transfer extra equipment from a single-player character to a mule (or to another single-player character)?
