All Diablo2 Talk here.........

The one I have is 35%, so I don’t mind either way if we trade or not…2% is well, uh, 2%…

Damn, it’s quiet on East, too quiet.

I’ve been mostly magic-finding with mixed success. After finding the Mara’s, I found an Astreon’s Iron Ward Caduseus. Great weapon, but wasted on a hammerdin… mostly. The +4 to combat skills raise up my BH to 6500-6600, but it’s slow as a casting weapon. I’m doing 5000+ with the Wiz Spike and putting out twice the hammers, so it’s kind of a trade off. I imagine if Fen doesn’t have one he’ll love getting his hands on it.

Met a new b.net Doper who’s entered his name in the Account thread Hirka T’Bawa. He’s got a bowazon in Hell and I gave him some equipment to help him along. I helped him through most of Act5, but when we got to the Ancients… we got, as the kids say, “pwned”. Three ancients and two of us, was not a good mix.

It seems like I’m back in 1.09, all the games listed are Baal runs or people trying to trade crap for elites. Once in a while there is a real game listed… and usually it’s one person who wants you to do all the work (and give him free stuff). I don’t mind giving stuff away, but not when they nag at you.

OK, Yeti, we can trade those. I mean, really, isn’t a 7% small charm better than a 5%?

And while we’re on the subject of loot, you already have a few M’avina’s items, right? The loot from that Baal run after you left was a M’avina’s Embrace armor. Str req is 122, and it gives +2 passive skills and a ton of defense (over 1100, based on char level).

Hi all,

I’m new at this game, just starting out. I’m having a lot of fun with my bow-wielding Amazon, and after a few day’s play, I have made it to the “nightmare” level.

You guys have obviously been playing for a very long time - I don’t understand half of what you are talking about. :o

Also, I don’t know much of the forms of behaviour of multi-player. Are you supposed to just grab everything, or share? I was playing one game, when someone showed up just as I was killing Baal, grabbed a bunch of stuff, and left without a word.

My character is around Level 32 - if someone would like to help me out (by showing me the ropes about working in multiplayer - not giving me stuff, finding it is half the fun!), I would be most grateful.

My account name is “miette”.

Malthus If you are playing a public game, don’t share the drops, no one else does. What realm do you play?

Who_Me? Thanks again for the items, Has really helped me, I can solo in hell now.

Ok Chronos, you talked me into the 2%…and thanks for the Mavina’s…

I also found a rare luna shield with +2 paladin skills…I left it on a new character “Og_Slice” if you want it…he’s on the shared account…

Malthus, if your on the US West b.net, I have a nifty little arbalest unique that’s right near the level your at…I forgot the name because it’s a little goofy…it’s not the Buriza either…

With us, it’s about sharing drops because we know that the strength of the party is based on the strength of the characters and that’s based on the strength of the equipment…that’s the Doper way…

I already have a rare pally shield with +2 to skills, but I’ll check this other one out, thanks.

By the way, the unique arbalest is the Langer Briser, and it has the distinction of being the only bow of any sort with magic find on it (unless you stick Ists or jewels in a socketed bow). I’ve used it before, and the damage is decent (plus a fair bit of lightning), but the attack speed is painfully slow. I usually only use it as a last-hit weapon, for the magic find.

And among Dopers, we have a sort of communist economy (in the idealized sense which hardly ever shows up in the real world, not the Stalinist sense). If you find something, you have first dibs on it, but if another Doper could make better use of it, we usually just give it to that person. In the long run, they’ll probably pay you back somehow or another, and even if not, they’ll still be a more efficient member of your party. But it’s dangerous to make such assumptions about folks outside of our circle.

By the way, Yeti, on that shared account, we should probably try to give the mules descriptive names. It’s one thing to root around in one’s own characters, trying to remember which mule you put something on, but when multiple folks are using the same account, it helps to have names like “LowLevelSets” or “Rune_Guy” or “ExcepUniques”. Makes it much easier to find what you’re looking for.

heh, i didn’t even know we had gotten around to making the communal account. If i run across one of you tonight, i’ll ask about it, i have some stuff i wouldn’t mind unloading onto the communal mules (mostly medium level stuff and some set items that i’m never gonna use, like tals mask and 3/4 of hwanin’s set).

I’m sure i have some things that would help you Malthus (a kuko or skystrike would probably be an upgrade), if you’re on West. At the very least, I have a hammerdin at about your level that wouldn’t mind some multiplayer company.

Btw got 2 more annis just in the past hour, 17/11/6 and 14/13/9. I’m going to see if i can’t get on one more server yet to sqeeze a third out of the evening, and then i’ll probably either do some baal runs. If anyone else is on and wants company, i’ll be glad for the distraction.

I’d actually suggest going Witchwield MS for the first strike to get Amp cast, then switching to Kuko or something similarly useful for damage. BIG bonus points if you use Highlord’s Wrath. The damage would be quite something. Come to think of it, the damage from Goblin Toe, Highlord’s, amp cast with Witchwield and some nice crafted gloves/belt, along with, say, Toothrow and even a modest ten into crit. strike would be something. Anyone feel like running the numbers?

Witchwild String and Kuko Shakaku actually wouldn’t be too great a combo. Much of the Kuko’s damage is elemental, whereas Amplify Damage only affects physical damage. For that matter, Witchwild itself does nearly as much physical damage as Kuko, even before the very high chance (1% per character level) of deadly strike, and it’s a little faster, too.

And if you’re counting the “damage” from Goblin Toe, then we can’t calculate it without knowing what we’re up against. Goblin Toe gives crushing blow, not regular damage, which’ll do damage proportional to your enemy’s life. Against D’’, for instance, crushing blow is, for practical purposes, the only source of damage, but against Fallen, it doesn’t make a difference.

Speaking of D’’, we met him again tonight, and the other Westerners might be fighting him yet one more time (I’m currently ten-minute blocked, from trying to join too quickly). My pally got his own little piece of nothing, at last, at 1/16/16/10. I also found a Baranar’s Star tonight, but I’ll have to hit the weight room for three levels before I can use it. All in all, not a bad night.

Whew! what a night. managed to accumulate 5 more anni charms over the course of the evening, which i think is a personal record. Tonight I think i’ll be focusing on doing baal runs, since i’m about 1/3 of the way to 94. If anyone is up for some public baal running, let me know.

I also enjoyed the baal runs and helping smack down D" a few times last night…although I don’t deal as much damage as some of the pallys, with 95% fire resist and 15% fire absorb, I’m practically untouchable by D"…My amazon practically bathes herself in his fire as she just constantly launches p. upgraded Titan’s at him the whole time…

I finally know how to look for a hot server although finding the right one was very frustrating…looking for #71 last night sucked and I gave up after a half hour because I was hitting #70(2x), #72(4x), #73(1x), and numerous other 60’s and 70’s (except of course #71) absolutely drove me apeshit…not to mention I was getting gravel-eyed without any action. I do need to upgrade to a better anni charm though…so, I’ll plug away again the next time we’re up to it…

Question for the fellow Wester’s: When we were looking for #71 last night, I noticed that the part of the address (on port 4000) sometimes had 3 digits instead of 2 digits, usually with the first of the 3 digit number was a “1”, therefore, my question: Is xxx.xxx.xxx.171 also considered as a hot server along with xxx.xxx.xxx.71 …Or, were we just interested in hooking up with xxx.xxx.xxx.71?

I am more than halfway to level 86, so I would like to do some more baal runs tonight as well.

Each clump of numbers in an IP address ranges from 0 to 255, so 171 is completely unrelated to 71.

And how the heck did an Amazon, of all classes, get 95% fire resist on Hell? My paladin only has 83%, and I could easily enough raise that to 85% within a few levels, but that’s already enough that he can pretty much ignore fire damage (especially if he borrows my sorc’s Dwarf Star, but that’s not really necessary). But an amazon? Nokozoan will only raise your max 10%, and I know you don’t have more than 63% resist all on your shield. Where’d you get the other 10% to max, and the rest of the resistance?

Yeti: 71 was frustratingly hard to get last night, i gave up after 200 failed attempts. I think it’s possible for a server to reach full capacity, at which point unless someone leaves you have no chance of getting on that server. My guess is that 71 was near capacity last night while we were trying to get on it. Hopefully you’ll have better luck tonight. By the way, what were the stats on your anni? If you need something with slightly different/better stats, perhaps i can swap with you. It’s unlikely that i’ll use all 14 of mine, and the stats on them won’t be especially important for most of my characters anyway.

Chronos: Infernostride also raises max fire resist, and i’m pretty sure there are other items that do the same. Perhaps Yeti has a few of these items in addition to Nokozoan. You can get large amounts of fire resist from rings, gloves, boots, etc. I don’t know what exactly Yeti uses, but it would be pretty easy to set up an amazon with 95 fire resist without sacrificing killing power.

My pally has over 90 resistance to any sort of elemental damage, so he doesn’t feel a thing when D’’ belches fire or lightning. It does sting when he bonks me on the head with his fist though.

You’re right, I’m sporting Nokozan and Infernostrides (remember, I usually leave a trail of fire after I get bonked repeatedly by gloams)…together, that’s 80%, the shield is another 63%, and I think the rest is on charms, including my anni charm (10/11/9, I think…therefore the need to upgrade)…after all, I am a charmaholic…(including a garnet grand charm that’s 22%)…if I improve on the anni charm, then I can shed this grand charm…the Anya quest last night certainly helped…

My lightning resist is up to 81…pretty good
But my cold resist stinks at 26…that’s not cool, that’s cold…
and my posion is sickening at 7…literally

OK, and the lightning would be from your Thundergod’s, I suppose. And I had fogotten that Infernostride had +max fire on it (yes, I’ve noticed the Blazing). But if you ever want to be reassured about your resists, ask me about my sorc’s resists next time we’re on together. You think that 7% poison is bad? My sorc only has 5%… When she’s got a resist poison shrine on her.

Meanwhile, has anybody else been having trouble with the Charge skill? Lately, it’s been sporadically acting up. Sometimes it turns me into a statue for a few seconds (I can’t move or attack, but I can still change my aura, and monsters don’t seem to notice me), and the past couple of nights, it’s just stopped working entirely: I click the mouse, and nothing happens, both against monsters and “air charges”. Switching characters and switching back seems to fix it.

I have a pally in single player that just made it to Nightmare. Although I’ve been playing for years, this is the first character I’ve stuck with long enough to get there (sad, isn’t it?). Anyway, I’m finding myself dying rather often in Act II and was wondering if you had any pointers for me. He’s maxxed in Holy Shock and has a lot of points in Vengeance. I’m not really sure what else I want to do with him after that.

i’m not very familiar with Tesladins, but i would suggest that you put some points into the Resist Lightning aura, since that should give you extra damage on holy shock (if you’ve updated to 1.10). Also, a few points in holy shield can make a big difference to your defense and blocking.

Act 2 also has a lot of monsters that raise each other (in the underground levels, specifically), which might make it worth spending a point in Redemption for corpse removal. Is there a specific area in act 2 that’s giving you trouble, or is it the entire act in general?

Basically most of the act (I’m in the Arcance Sanctuary right now). I’m ok until I get the ranged attacks, then life just drains away. Part of the problem is my resists are still pretty low, but it seems like there’s more to it than just that.

Thanks for the tip about the lightning resist. I hadn’t even thought of that - I’ve been playing 1.10 since it’s release, but I’ve been trying out all the characters and haven’t gotten very in-depth with the paladins yet.

I’ve got a baby paladin on US East right now if anyone wants to play. Account name is releira, character name is LL-Corran.

I’ve played Diablo II maybe 20 times through. My family made me stop. The years have gone by. But…I think I can handle it again. I only play single player. Any great, cool, inventive mods you might recommend?
