Considering the boost I get from +life (lvl27 Sage) and that the one +dmg I don’t have a bonus on my 4 pieces of IK is poison, I’m quite happy to take up a few spaces for small life charms(~+70) and 6 spaces with 5 poison related charms for right around 380 poison damage.
I don’t know how often I’ll be on for the next week or so, but I’ll be on some.
I have had somewhat better luck finding stuff recently. I found a Wolfhowl (?) helm and a Windhammer yesterday. I also got my hammerdin into Act4 (got a goddamn Lum rune from the Forge).
By the way, you Easters! The pgem mule is full. Stash, inventory, and cube… all pgems. Make trades… use them. If you need more, I have more.
Thanks to Madawc for playing with me the other night. I’ll be off on spring break, but will hopefully have some more time to abuse my broadband connection when school starts up again.
My SP pally picked up a String of Ears
Well! I just found my first “honest” Annihilus. That is to say, without actively trying to hit a “hot” server. Just as Yeti and I were finishing up a Baal run in the sdmb game, the stone counter started rising, so we stayed in the same game. After nearly a hundred sales, D’’ showed up. It gave us a chance to test both our new Witchwild String and my Baranar’s Star that I just grew into. Surprisingly, the amplify damage hardly seemed to make any difference at all, but the Baranar’s definitely did. By switching from my crushing weapon to Baranar’s once he was slivered, I was able to cut easily 20 hits off of my killing time. This guy is now a well-honed killing machine.
It presented a problem of a different sort, though, in that Yeti and I each already had an Annihilus, so we had no way to carry the charm out of the game. Fortuneately, theckd showed up just then, and he was able to get one of his Hell-rushed mules. I was able to upgrade my Anni (18/19/9), and we muled the extra.
Whatever happened to Sturmhauke, by the way? If he shows up again, he’s got this one waiting for him.
Yeah, i’ve noticed that amp doesn’t do as much for me as life tap. With life tap, hitting the clone once fills my life, while amps effect only seems to approximately double or triple my normal leech, which isn’t huge (30%, which on hell gets quartered iirc; but my physical damage isn’t high).
Btw Yeti would you like a buriza or hellrack? i have an extra buriza and one hellrack, (and a goldstrike, but i would imagine you don’t want that) and i’m probably going to delete my bowazon at some point, so if you’d like either, i can hook you up.
The burizas aren’t upgraded, though hellrack has higher damage output than an upgraded buriza anyway, and both have a little more than a windforce (and over 2-3x as much as a Goldsrike, upgraded or otherwise).
Waaah!
I don’t suppose you’d whomp up a d2i file for me, would you? I can return the favour … Tal’s armour, IK boots, Dwarf Star …

ED, I have a String of Ears for ya! I’d LOVE a Tal’s armor. But that’s too much from you. What else do you need?
I believe he’s talking about single player, where you can make a .d2i file of an item and send it to someone without losing the original item… basically duping for SP, so it’s not really trading and nobody’s getting ripped off. I don’t see why there’d be a problem with sending a string for tal’s. It’s not like anyone’s losing anything out of the deal.
theckhd, I don’t dupe, and I delete all items that I trade away. I assume anyone I trade with does the same.
sorry, i wasn’t accusing, just stating that creating a .d2i file was basically the equivalent of creating a dupe on the realm. Most of us don’t play SP at all so we may or may not be familiar with what a .d2i file is. I mistakenly thought you were one of us realm players.
On to a better question: why would you bother deleting items you trade away in single player? You’re already using a third party program to create the d2i file, so you’ve already broken the EULA. And it isn’t like you’re going to ruin the economy of single player / open bnet. I suppose it may be a question of integrity, but otherwise i don’t really see a reason to delete your items after exporting them.
Of course, my experience with Single Player is limited to fooling around with the 1.10 beta and downloading the zip file that contained all the items, so that i could see what the synergies were like with different builds and fool around with all the new runewords, so perhaps i have a slightly different view of what SP mode is for.
I do a lot of trading on the SP Forum at dii.net, which is a pretty good economy. Duping would ruin that economy. Plus, the game crashes in the unlikely event two dupes are in the same game (and sometimes corrupt the character they’re on), and a lot of people create ISP games, so duping would ruin other people’s gaming experience. Plus, part of the fun is finding and trading, and you just erode that with duping.
The real issue is how honest you keep your twinking. My sole rule is that no one character can use more of an item than I’ve actually found; for example, my trapper has one Bartuc’s and one Witch-Hunter’s instead of two Bartuc’s. However, I see nothing wrong with having a Bartuc’s on both my assassins because I can’t play more than one character at once anyway. I could play it strict, but it’d only waste my time moving the items around. The only things I ever dupe are gems and runes up to and including Sol, because I’ve found the main issue in obtaining them is time.
Munch: I really don’t trade SP very often, and never on the forums, and I rarely play TCP/IP. With that in mind, I feel palming off the occasional exceptional unique to be OK (and Astra’s right, I under-rated Tal’s armour; anything exceptional you’re looking for that isn’t the Buriza or Vampiregaze?). But I’m certainly not going to ask for someone’s entire item collection because that would spoil the fun of finding the cool items - I found a Doombringer recently and was well chuffed. I’m also not going to throw my collection at them for the same reason.
i didn’t even realize that there was a SP trading forum at dii.net, but i’ve never had much luck with that forum either (i seem to remember the marketplace disappearing for a while due to funding concerns, and i haven’t really returned to it since).
That’s really cool that there is a place where legit SP trading goes on, for the benefit of those who can’t play on closed realm. I wouldn’t have expected it would exist, since you can download a trainer and give yourself whatever items you want – most people don’t have the self-restraint to stop themselves in such a situation. Since you can already have anything you want, i figured there was no serious economy to ruin. I wonder how the dii forums regulate and enforce the legitness of the items?
I agree that the game is more fun to play and find items, though i loathe trading on closed bnet (too many scammers and jerks, and the trade channels are a joke now that they got rid of the Gem and Set channels – if they weren’t already a joke before).
I never really thought about it before, but I don’t imagine that it’s a problem. Presumably, the SP traders only trade for other Diablo II items, and not for, say, real money. In that case, anyone who had dupes available for trade probably wouldn’t bother with actually trading, since anything he could get for a trade, he could get quicker and easier from a download.
That is an excellent point, not sure why i didn’t see that before. Guess i just don’t have the mindset of a SP player
Got 2 more annis last night when 186 popped, so i now have 19 of the buggers (and this is after trading a crappy one earlier yesterday). Now if only i could find someone who wanted to trade me a Ber rune for a couple…
It’s actually beginning to be a problem, since i have exactly as many annis as i do ladder characters right now. I’m burning in two more mules right now in case i decide to pick up some more tonight. At the rate i’m going, i’ll be forced to start giving the buggers away.
But only after i have my Chains of Honor made
I will always take a look at any items to see if they are an improvement to my current items…I do have a buriza, but I will look at the damage for each…never seen a Hellrack before…
As for trading a ber for an anni charm…how would you go about it? Drop the two items and run towards each others…say from the corner of each other’s screens? Isn’t there a cheat/mod to auto pick-up everything on the screen? Just curious…
Yeah, that’s the general method. It comes down to trust, basically, which is why i don’t like trading anni charms. Confound blizzard for not making them tradeable, especially since it doesn’t serve any logistical purpose that i can think of. You would think that if they were going to support fair trading by implementing the trade screen, they would support it by making all items tradeable.
It seems I’ve either forgotten my password or my account has expired.
Either way, I’ll probably start playing again. Any suggestions for a fun alternative to the werewolf druid I was playing last time?
The program we use, ATMA, tracks an item’s fingerprint. It’s a large identification code that Dii stamps on everything except runes, gems, scrolls, keys, etc.
From what I’ve read, it’s because they don’t want people stockpiling them. No, it doesn’t make sense to me, either.
And Yeti, Hellrack does a ton of damage (especially elemental), but be advised that it needs 163 strength (as would an upgraded Buriza, assuming that’s possible).
By the way, theckd, do you have an assassin? Baal just dropped a rare ethereal Hand Scythe, self-repair, 170-something ED, and other nice mods.
