Thanks for the invite Yeticus, but I only play HC. SC is just not very exciting for me. The threat of death creates a certain tension in the air that I find irresistable.
Of course, after being nearly instantaneously PK’d (without any 10 sec. delay) I might have to reconsider my HC-Only policy.

Exactly!

Well, just to keep this thread alive, I’ll post about my barb. He’s up to level 72 and in Act1 of hell and is surviving. That’s about it so far. I’m buying swords off of Larek in hell with my sorc and muling them down to him, I can’t find a GOOD sword for the life of me.
What are you counting as a good sword, Who_me?? I think we have a Bing Sz Wang lying around somewhere, and I know there are a few Bloodletters around. I also have a Djinn Slayer, but unless you like running to the blacksmith twice a battle, I wouldn’t recommend it. 22 durability is not a good thing.
Well, until after I posted that I was using a Ferocious Colossus Blade and a Ginther’s Rift. I bought a decent damage colossus sword after the post though. They do enough damage, but are slow… well the sword is normal speed and the blade is fast… a frenzy barb really needs very fast swords to do what I need him to. I have no shaels at the moment and I’d have to hope that the colossus sword would get two sockets to get to very fast. The blade will make it with only the one socket that I’m guaranteed.
The Bloodletters don’t do enough damage and the + to WW is a waste since I don’t have any points in WW. I keep taking the sorc to Larzuk hoping to find a Cruel Colossus blade of whatever that increases attack speed, although the speed thing would only be gravy. If I can find a high damage colossus blade to go with the Ferocious one I have, I think that would be sufficient. That and two shaels…
A dream blade (one that is within reason… not Azurewrath) would be one or two Lightsabers. I’m considering trying to trade the one decent rune I have at the moment (Pul) to get one.
Especially with what they’ve done with gloams. It seems like D’’ is the only thing that does fire damage worth worrying about any more, but those black souls in the Worldstone Keep are killer. They’ve put a cap on absorb now, so you can’t quite completely lightning-proof yourself any more with a pair of lightsabres, but you can come durn close.
Incidentally, have you tried shopping for cruel (or whatever) phase blades? Not exactly a Lightsabre (or Azurewrath!), but still indestructible and -30 speed. Alternately, I could save up the next nonmagical phase blade or two I find, if you want to try some imbues.
back from a bit of a hiatus, didn’t get a lot of playing in during the past 4 days or so.
My Frigidin hit 100 on the pally ladder, and 800 on the overall ladder, and i’ve pretty much quit actively trying to advance him at this point (i checked today, he’s down to 101 again by quite a margin, probably at least 20-25 baal runs). He’s all the tank (and more) that i designed him to be, and i couldn’t be more pleased with how he came out (not to mention how much fun he was/is to play). Getting into the top 100 was just icing on the cake (and i have screenshots to prove it too, for posterity’s sake).
Now i’ll probably be focusing on playing my hammerdin (84), throw barb (75), or my sorc or javazon (both in the 20’s at the moment).
As for your blade worries Who, i wish i had checked in earlier this weekend, because i could have assisted you earlier. My HF pally has azure as main weapon and a lightsabre on weap switch, but i never use the sabre (i used to use it for lit absorb, but i don’t really need it anymore). If you’d like it, you can have it (and perhaps get your second with your Pul rune). Alternatively, i should have a Bloodmoon floating around somewhere, or dual Doombringers, though the dooms would be slower.
Also, Azures aren’t as hard to get as you may think, i believe they go for mal or less nowadays, so you might be able to pick up a pair of cheap ones for mal or ist. I’ll keep an eye out and see if i can’t get ahold of one or two for you, if the opportunity arises. Or, if you’d rather have dual lightsabres for the lit res, i’m sure i can get ahold of two of those fairly easily (and more cheaply). Just let me know what you’d like.
Thanks, for the offer theckhd. My barb is beginning to shape up a bit. His resists are still low (for a barb) and he’s still dying way too much in hell. He’s now using a Ferocious and a Cruel Colossus blade, both with double shaels. I think I’m going to bite the bullet and stick a point or two into WW for escapability. I have a +3 and a +2 to warcries swords on weapon switch and with the anni charm I muled from my zon, I have my BO (after BC) up to level 30.
I did two NM Baal runs with him last night. At level 73, he still gets fair experience from them and, after the minions, Baal is very easy to kill. Both times I didn’t even have to use a potion against him. If I get lucky, I may even get a worthwhile drop from him although his magic find is all of 20.
The voice of the Paladin is no other than Larry Scott, who played Tasty Taste in the rap mockumentary “Fear of a Black Hat”. Anyone know if a mod can be made replacing the Paladin’s speech with quotes from the movie? Because there are some hellaciously apt ones:
“I oughta bust a cap in his ass!”
“If y’all have noticed, I ain’t said shit for a couple minutes now.”
“Granny says, kick yo black ass!”
“If I can’t pick it up, I gotta have it.”
… just asking …
If the sound clips can be modded, then the first one I’d want to change is the Barbarian’s Taunt sound effect. The only thing keeping that spell from being perfect is the fact that it doesn’t say “Your mother smells of eldeberries”.
But I agree that “If I can’t pick it up, I gotta have it” works a lot better than “I can’t carry any more”.
I’m currently in search of a 3 socket Scourge or Knout, if anyone happens to come across one please hang on to it for me. I haven’t checked the commie mule yet, since it’s late, but i’ll check tomorrow. The extra 40% CB will speed up clone kills quite a bit.
Y’know, even though I have my clonekiller weapon, I still check every socketed knout I find, and I’ve still yet to find a three socket one. I haven’t seen many Scourges at all. Would you be interested in a Jagged Star, instead? That’s what I’m using, and although it’s a little slower than a Knout, it definitely gets the job done. And they’re much easier to come by than the others (they have a max of 3 sockets, so if nothing else, Larzuk could make one for you).
In other news, my sorceress found another Burning Grand Charm today. It’s funny… I’ve only found two skill charms, and both of them were Burning, and both of them were found with my sorc. It’s almost like there’s a bias towards items you can use. Not, of course, that I’m complaining :).
On the other hand, this brings my free inventory space down to unacceptable levels… I think I’m going to have to dump some of my resistance charms, and make up the difference with sockets. Gloam lightning seems to be the only elemental attack that hurts any more, so I might just lose the fire and cold resist charms completely.
Thanks Chronos, but i got ahold of a 3 socket knout to make Black in. 40% more crushing blow makes a big difference. I’ve gotten my time down to around a minute.
Though i’m still jealous of the guy i know that uses a 6-socket phase blade with ber-ber-ber-ber-ber-shael. The rest of his equip is pretty much standard pally smiter gear. Since smite always hits, he gets 100% crushing blow on every smite, so he takes the clone down in around 20 seconds or so.
There are a lot easier ways to get 100% crushing blow. Personally, I use Black (40%), Goblin Toe boots (25%) and Guillaume’s Face helm (Orphan’s Call set) (35%). Zeal and Conviction will score a few more hits than Smite (the Conviction gives you a very good chance to hit, and Zeal is quicker than Smite), but Smite lets you use another aura to help keep yourself alive (personally, I use Meditation, with maxed Prayer: It heals just enough that I can use red potions instead of purple).
By the way, has anyone else ever laughed at the comical trades offered in chat? The other day, I saw somebody offering Gul for a Heart of the Oak, another fellow offering Ist for Sur, and yet another asking for the Immortal King’s Armor for free. Do people actually fall for these things?
Sometimes (like if you wanna test out a duping method); alternately, if the person is a n00b they can be taken by some drivel (“I dupe SOJ for you for free!”) which sometimes nets the evil doer some gear, or at least some cash or, at worst, amusement.
Another thing that sometimes happens is that someone will find something (totally) rare and have no idea and be willing to trade it for something funky. In my D2XP youth I once traded a Lem (back when such were not 'mutable to anything higher) for an Aldur’s Gaze. Yes, yes, laugh all you like.
