All these new-fangled sodas!

I’m a Moxie man! Darn all them new-fangled sodas! Coke and Pepsi are just a fad, I tell ya!

OMG c_carol! What I wouldn’t pay to get my hands on that stuff. The last place I found it was a little convience store in GA, but since I don’t live there any more, I rather figured the rest of the bottles sit still, gathering dust.

~drools~

Wow, since I am being a total dork, I did a quick google search only to learn that they will ship me Cheerwine. ~L~

Thanks c_carol, maybe I can singlehandedly revive the Cheerwine revolution…I just need them to branch out as far as Texas. Heck if they have it in Oslo now, surely Texas is doable!

~backs out of the thread, apologizing profusely for the hijack~

I’ve never tasted Moxie. I’d like to try it sometime.

My impression of the blue Pepsi was the same as Jman’s: melted blue gummi bears.

I had had vanilla Coke from a fountain, so when Coke released it’s name brand Vanilla Coke, I got really excited and bought a whole 2 liter untasted. The first sip left a bad aftertaste in my mouth. But I don’t like to waste things, so I drank the whole 2 liter and became acclimated to it. I’ve had it a few times since, but it’s like a vanilla flavored ice cream vs. real vanilla ice cream; alas, it ain’t the same thing.

Dr Pepper is my favorite soda, so of course I loved Red Fusion. I just tried Mountain Dew Livewire. I like orange soda, but this wasn’t that great.

I haven’t tried any of the others. If Sprite Remix has a hint of coconut, I’ll probably like it. And despite all the bad word-of-mouth it’s been getting, I will probably like Pepsi Blue, since from it’s description, it reminds me of an old favorite, Blue Neehi, which is no longer around, or very hard to find. I don’t think I’d care for Pepsi Twist, as I don’t like to put lemon in my drinks.

Thew worst soft drink ever is something called Beverly. I think it’s from Italy. Got a taste of it at Epcot. Vile, vile stuff.

I gave up soda almost exactly three years ago.

All these new-fangled sodas!
To quote someone I know, “We got in trouble when we stopped making things and started fangling them.”

I liked Vanilla Coke for a while but got sick of the sweetness and went back to the original. Pepsi Blue tastes like soda water with the taste removed. In other words, me no likey.

What I miss most about Canada is A&W root beer. If anyone wants to make a possibly very lucrative side business of shipping it to a client base of one here… I’m all ears.

Jaade, you’re welcome

The only place I’ve been able to buy Moxie is in Vermont. The larger Hannaford’s seem the most reliable source. I stopped at a couple of local beverage dealers today, armed with an empty Moxie can, and asked them if they could start stocking it. They’ve promised to check into it.

As for the taste of Moxie - some people like it and some people really hate it. It’s basically a bitter cola. I believe they use oil of bergament as a flavoring which is the same ingredient that gives Earl Grey tea its distinctive flavor. So imagine an unsweetened coke with a shot of Earl Grey. That first sip is always an eye-opener.

And my visits to the soda shops were not without success; I was able to score a sixpack of Dr Browns Cel-Ray Soda and a bottle of Virgil’s Nutmeg Root Beer.

Yes, you will have the best luck finding Moxie in the New England area. It comes from Maine, IIRC, but I think it can be found even down here in Boston- in the “tonic” aisle, of course.

Sprite Remix is indeed good for watering down liquor, but I won’t make a habit of drinking it.

The Dr Pepper Red Somethingorother is drinkable, and .75 a bottle where real DP's .99, so I get it sometimes.

Pepsi Blue is good for faking liquor – I used it for a generic blue-drink-with-an-umbrella-in-it for one of my photo classes (no real liquor allowed on campus anymore, see). Not bad, but I don’t care for it. Would probably make a good mixer for umbrella drinks.

My current favorite not-cola soda is Red Flash, put out by Coke (I think). Is it the same as the short-lived Dr. Slice (I think that’s what it was called) from a few years* ago? The label design is the same (Was the same. Lately the Red Flash has had a red on red label, but it used to be black with red bubbles) If not, is the latter still available?

  • — 4 or 5 years, actually. I’d get it out of the vending machine in the fieldhouse at high school. Damn, I feel old.

HA Ive been telling people that and no one believes me. Im not crazy afterall!!

And FYI antifreeze is pretty sweet on its own, sweeter than pepi blue from what i hear anyway… Not that d know or anything.

Blue Nehi is cream soda, tasting not a whole lot like Pepes Blue. I can still get you blue Nehi if you want to cover the cost. I agree it is tasty stuff although it doesnt compare to peach Nehi.
