Allegedly hot chicks/studs whose appeal escapes you

I agree with this completely. SJP is not known for being a beauty. She is a fashionista who plays more of an everywoman than a hot chick. To me, she’s a symbol of how much success a plain-looking woman can garner, even to the point of becoming a fashion icon and romantic lead, despite her lack of extreme gorgeousness.

I had to google pictures of Zac Efron… Mmm, nice body, the type I do like.

One whose appeal escapes me is the male lead of Twilight (whose name I don’t care to search). His hair is worse than mine, way worse, his eyebrows are waaay too bushy (especially, IMHO, for his age), and his looks… are creepy. Sorry, I don’t see the appeal there, I feel like an old fart (until I see Zac Efron again and go, yummy!).

Oh God, I am truly obsessed with politics. Not that I didn’t already know that, but . . .

I guess we just wrestled on different sorts of teams. On my team virtually everyone was a stick; our lower weight guys were constantly trying to cut down to whatever weight was beneath what they usually wrestled at. We went to the weight room twice a week, usually; on the other three days we’d run on the track.

But we had two and a half to three hour practices every day, which were about 40 percent wrestling technique and 60 percent conditioning. (If the coaches were in a bad mood, or if we had just had a lot of losses at a meet, sometimes it was more like 90 percent conditioning and 10 percent being screamed at while we were collapsed on the floor.) Most practices, guys would sweat off 1 to 3 pounds of water weight, at least. And most of the varsity guys were taking in WAY less than 2000 calories every day.

This is not a recipe for gaining muscle mass. And also most of the wrestlers were tired all the time, and surly, and miserable. I think our coaches just went way over the top with the conditioning, and didn’t really care about developing our bodies in a meaningful way. We always had a lot of losses and fuck-ups; I guess it just wasn’t a great team. I’m still glad I did it, because it was a character building experience.

Guinastasia, there are plenty of pics of me if you search the photo threads…I’ve been told I look a little like a combination of Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, with a little Viggo Mortensen, Hugh Jackman, Daniel Craig, Christian Bale and Clive Owen thrown in as well.

I fully realize Efron’s body is quite desirable to a lot of women and men, but I personally am more impressed by someone with some real muscle. (And, something tells me a lot of women found Arnold Schwarzenegger to be very appealing, given that he had a notorious reputation as a playboy during his bodybuilding days, before he settled down with his current wife.) But aside from his good looks, Efron is a hack; he’s got no talent; he will be forgotten in 4 years.

I wouldn’t go so far as to call him ugly, but he doesn’t look as good in a dress as Eddie Izzard.

On edit: Seriously, though, does anyone outside of Freepers really find Ms. Coulter sexy?

I have to agree. I like the lean look, and if that makes it a run-of-the-mill swimmer’s body then hook me up with some swimmers. I really don’t give a toss whether a lad or lass worked hard for their hot bod, if I find it attractive, I find it attractive.

It’s a good thing then that Mr. Efron isn’t trying to impress you.

[personal aside] I can’t stand the look guys get when they “seriously” lift weights. I don’t like bulk or the macho stuff that seems to go along with that mentality. [/personal aside]

Schwarzenegger does not appeal to me in any way. Ugh. Zac Efron has the world’s worst haircut, but he is cute. He has a great body. Who cares if he lifts or not? Why is lifting important? He has a body similar to a swimmer’s–a build that I’ve always found attractive (growing up with the HS Varsity swim team using my house to hang out in may have something to do with that).
I second Brad Pitt–I have never seen the attraction. To me he looks like Robert Redford in his prime and I never found Redford attractive, either.

Ditto George Clooney–and I don’t think he can act very well (neither can Pitt)

DiCaprio–he’s got to be a boytoy for some executive producer somewhere. I can’t believe he’s straight.

I really don’t like blonde men (in terms of attractiveness–I’m sure many blonde men are very good people).

In direct contradiction to my previous statement, I find Orlando Bloom hot as Legolas and ONLY as Legolas. Otherwise, he doesn’t do a thing for me.

Ewan McGregor (had to Google for him) isn’t doing a thing for me, either…

In terms of the women mentioned, I’ll add Hilary Swank to the list. There is something wrong with her facial symmetry. I second Nicole Kidman–IMO she’s been trying to impersonate Princess Grace for years and failing miserably at it.

Angelina Jolie does not look like she’ll age well to me. I see a pretty face, but not pretty bones.

Am I the only one who thinks that there is so much silicone in Pamela Anderson that she will never die? Perhaps she will melt one day, instead.

Okay. Isn’t this whole entire thread asking people about celebrities “whose appeal escapes you?” They’re all laughing all the way to the bank, anyway; whatever one insignificant person thinks about their appearance doesn’t make much difference.

Incidentally I’m more impressed by Zac Efron’s looks than I am with anything else about him. As I said, he is not a genuine talent of any kind; he has had his few years of fame, he will be very rich for the rest of his life, but I highly doubt we will be seeing him on movie screens in 5 years.

Well, as one who doesn’t feel like searching through said photo threads, would you mind posting one? No offense?

Do you want one that is fully clothed or one that is not fully clothed?

Dude, please. Fully clothed.

Pretty please.

I don’t know. I want to see this torso that would make Zac Efron jealous.

Where exactly did I say or even imply that Zac Efron would or should be jealous of my physique?

All I said was that I’m not as impressed with his as I am with Christian Bale’s, who gained like 50 pounds of muscle to play Batman after literally emaciating himself for The Machinist. That, to me, is astonishing.

True enough. But think on this: perhaps you find the body you get from lifting attractive and think it makes you so to others. There are any number of women in this thread who have said it is not (and yes, there are many women who do find it attractive). Frankly, I don’t see the appeal one bit–and the more bulked up and “body builder” a guy (or woman) looks, the less attractive I find them. YMMV.

He has a good voice and some acting talent. The HS movies he’s been in have been shitty movies, IMO. We none of us know what he’s going to do with his life. Maybe he’ll be like Ron Howard and turn into a great director. Or maybe he’ll retire with his millions and play golf his whole life. I don’t see that it’s relevant.

It was a joke. Lighten up. I do think you’re being a little hard on old Zac, who is a rather beautiful boy who need not impress you to be very impressive indeed, at least physically. I don’t follow his work, though he was OK on SNL the other night.

Christian Bale is insane. It’s not impressive that he chose to make himself look like this for a role-- it’s disturbing.

There’s “attractive” and there’s “attractive - for politics”. Isn’t politics “show business for ugly people”?

Barack Obama is no match for Billy Dee Williams in his prime (see: Lady Sings the Blues). But he is a pretty sure bet for “Most Attractive US President”.

Isn’t the whole point of this thread that tastes differ? So Argent Towers has different tastes in men than most of the participants in this thread who have tastes in men. I don’t think anyone’s going to change anyone else’s mind on that score.

I wouldn’t say I have “tastes in men” at least as far as physical attraction is concerned; I am a heterosexual male, but I am fascinated by how people look, and how people perceive others to look. Our whole world today is driven by it - it’s nearly impossible for me to not think about it, and that includes both men and women. I can admire a male’s physique or his face just like I can admire anything else aesthetically - it just won’t give me a hard-on.

Efron just looks very bland, uninteresting, and boring to me. What can I say? Someone else said it best, he looks like an anime/manga character. I’m very impressed with men who have physiques which clearly took time and effort to sculpt - I have a lot of respect for the dedication it takes to build someone’s body up. Efron basically has the typical body of an athletic high school kid - so I’m not impressed by it. (I certainly don’t look down on people who ARE impressed by it, but it doesn’t impress me.)

I honestly don’t get the Matthew McCaughnahay (sp?) appeal. He looks like he stinks. I just think, “Ew.” So many females think he’s hot. ???

I also don’t get the Jennifer Aniston appeal, either. Her hair and body are nice, but her face…I don’t know.
