Alone @ the office on a beautiful Sunday sucks! How do you people do it regularly?

Thank goodness it’s the first (and hopfully last) time (at least for another 6 years). If it was spring, summer of fall, I’d really be bitchin.

I have to wrap up the company’s fiscal year end before the calendar roll. As luck would have it, it’s Sunday 29th as opposed to a weekday.

It’s obviously quiet here, our hours never include Sundays. There’s no one to talk to and no ringing phones (except for the occasional wrong #). I prepared as much as possible…

I have the dogs to keep me company because I’ve always hated desolation. Every hour or so, I take em out to play on the grounds to break up the boredom.

I have the music cranked at maximum volume, there’s no one here to say, ‘Turn that shit down’.

I have the SDMB up on a window to pass the time while the updates run. I usually don’t read em on weekends and amazed at the server speed.

Does anyone (like security guards) ever have to work alone on a Sunday as part of their regular gig? How do you handle it?

We go insane. Slowly, but throroughly insane. And paranoid.

Actually, I wasn’t completely alone today. The other American who took over the individual office (and never lets anyone know when he’s in or not) was here today. Just close enough that I can’t sing along. And you should be able to sing along- especially to “Werewolves of London”.

But you can’t when there’s a jerk in the next room.

We think he’s in there looking at porn.

I think it was about a year ago I requested to move my schedule to a Sun-Thurs one. I did it for all the reasons you mentioned (no ringing phones and no one else around), plus a few more. It is, by far, my most productive day of the week. I can work on a task without distraction.

Since I now have Fridays off, I can do things not normally open to working stiffs like me. I can go volunteer in my kids’ classrooms and interact with them (the kids, not the classrooms!) in a way most working parents can’t. Appointments with professionals that don’t normally have weekend hours are now available without having to take time off work. And certainly there are far, far more businesses open on Friday than on Sunday! Not to mention that shopping during the week has fewer crowds than on Sunday.

Fridays have their share of good weather that I’d be missing if I had to work that day.

If I do plan a vacation, I get to leave one day earlier than most to get a jump on the weekend. Yep, I need to be back a day earlier, but I’ve found for things like camping it is far easier to find a campsite on a Thursday evening than on a Friday.

Bored? Hardly. I still have my stack of work to do. The only difference is that now I get to do it and really concentrate on it.

I work on the weekends all by myself and have been for about the last year. I really like it. In fact I kinda look forward to it. You get to do your own thing and not have anyone bug you. I just plop my head phones on, wear raggy jeans and a tshirt, and go to town. I work better when I’m alone anyways. Sure is nice to get away from my coworkers after working with them all week long.
