G. Nome has recieved quite a kicking on this board.
I am partially responsible. She has annoyed me. Her posts, though incoherent, do contain some valid points. I will concede that much.
Have I been trolling? has the fact that she has annoyed me led me on an unnecessary attack?
I know you said you left, G. Nome. But I’m sure you are still lurking.
So lets see. If the majority of people believe that I have been out of order, I will concede my stance regarding you and apologise.
I do this in the interests of my standing on the board. I’m not sure if anyone cares what I post, but the last thing I would want is for anyone here to think less of me because of this incident.
I respect the opinion of each and everyone who posts here. If you believe me to be out of line, let me know.
I love you to death, but I think that you should stop talking to and about G. Nome. Your points are valid, but…well, I’m sure you know the rest. No need to apoligise, but it’s time to let go. Your energies are better spent planning fun things for me to do in Dublin in two weeks.

PS Why don’t you do what I do and talk endlessly about the things that annoy you on this board to people who have never heard of the Straight Dope and think the internet is weird? True, you’ll be friendless like me, but at least you’ll be getting it out.
I don’t understand what you’re trying to do. Either G. Nome isn’t trying to provoke your wrath (in which case you’re wrong to attack them) or s/he’s deliberately trying to wind you up - in which case you’re playing their game.

Gary, looking back, I believe that what I did was slightly over the top. As you know, I’ve stuck my neck out for people before. I dont believe I was trolling.But I dont want the reputation of steaming in and branding people as trolls.
Pat, I understand what you are saying, but I wanted the opinion of the board as to my actions. This isnt supposed to be a g. nome whichhunt, I just wanted an opinion of my actions.
I presume you know my opinion. I have carefully read every thread linked to by people trying to prove what a “troll” she is. I enjoyed the threads immensely, the topics she started, her responses to the bucketloads of vitriol she got doused in, and think she’s actually behaved in a pretty dignified way, considering the verbal pastings she’s had from all sides. Don’t really understand the comment made to Uncle Beer, but that’s probably just me being thick. Please explain the intention as you saw it.
me too. Missy2U, I’d be grateful if you’d explain what in that post offended you. Uncle Beer, you were the recipient. Do YOU know? G Nome, please let me know. If Missy2U got so offended by it, it must have really been something, as it wasn’t even directed at her.
John, I wouldn’t say you were out of order, but I do think some people have been overreacting. Yeah, G. Nome’s said some things she shouldn’t have, but we all have done that. I generally find her posts to be amusing if nothing else, and I personally don’t think any of her attacks have been that vicious. Certainly not as bad as some attacks I’ve seen around here which were subsequently forgotten.
I think there’s been huge over-reaction by those who seem to be offended by someone simply posting in a different way than they do. Ironically, many posters here subscribe to the “if they insult you, then insult them right back” school of debate and in that sense G. Nome as been as normal as anybody else.
G Nome…in one post, you sound quite coherent, in another…not so much. In short, you’re just a tad annoying. You rant and spout buckets of goop like “spatial proximity” and flawed web stuff…then in another post you make fine points and get your ideas across nicely.
Not a full fledged nutbar, just annoying.
To all…WallyM7 is a sensitive subject. When we collectively think that someone is blackening his memory, we’re quick to react. Maybe too quick sometimes.
To whomever said “Wally wasn’t a Saint” …quite mean spirited and so on…I disagree. He was a leader on this board, and he was a Saint.
Well, maybe he wasn’t a saint, but dropzone said something to the effect of Wally being “not a pleasure to be around most of the time”. I have no idea ho long this guy lurked, but he signed up the same month Wally died. So how he could be the judge of that is just beyond me.
Same goes for G.Nome. If I were to walk into an online community like this one and find out about a guy like Wally and the effect he had on people, the last thing that would come to my mind would be to try and diminish the image of that person in any way. G.Nome and dropzone apparently thinks they has a right to do just that.
Suffice it to say that anyone who calls them on that is NOT out of line.
