Am I the Only one who does this when it comes to relationships?

So, that is how she looks!

Mmm, you know, I did not need to see any pictures to find out how beautiful she is.

Good luck Kat, in all your efforts!!!

It does work. I’m still shy, but I’ve adopted the attitude that I can say silly things or ask what might seem like “stupid” questions, or generally be very outgoing and friendly in public so long as I’m willing to laugh at myself.

I used to try to muddle through things, or act like I knew what I was doing. If I went to a new place, like a buffet restaurant or any place that has “rules” for how you proceed, I used to just watch everyone else and do what they did. No longer. Now, I’ll be very forthright with people, say things like, “I’ve never been here before. Can you help me?” or “Wow, I have no idea what’s going on. Help!” Or, on the phone: “I need to ask an extremely stupid question.” People tend to take pity on you if you joke about it.

If I do something awkward, like almost take their pen after I sign a credit card, instead of being quietly embarrassed I make a joke of it. “You’ve got to keep an eye on me! I’m trying to steal your pen.”

I know these sound like really minor embarrassments, but I used to feel very self-conscious even about minor stuff. And it allows me to see when someone else is at fault. I used to think that if I did something silly, others were right to belittle me. Now, if I do something silly and people belittle me after I make some self-deprecating comment, then I know they are assholes.

So, that’s my coping mechanism. I make fun of myself before I can feel as if someone is judging me, and I can usually get the other person to laugh with me. That and unfailing politeness work wonders if you’re shy.

Tuckerfan- Could you possibly post a link to this infamous virigin pit thread? I’m interested and I tried to find it but failed.

Thanks

nevermind - i found it

I’ll see what I can do-if I can’t do it this time, definitely the next time (we’re doing some heavy cleaning/painting, etc around the house, and we’re getting a puppy this weekend).

Thanks. :o

What kind?

I’m to pugs and dachshunds myself. In fact, I hope to one day combine the two into a new breed. The odd flattened face combined with the elongated body should give the effect of a cartoon character who has just had a high speed collision with a wall.
