Am I the only person in the world who despises the movie " Finding Nemo"?

I loved it. I don’t quite understand why people would work up enough emotion to hate it. (I do understand the hate hatred of Cars. Don’t agree with it, but i see where people are coming from.)
But, I think I must be a Pixar fanatic. I haven’t disliked any of their films. And, I have seen them all in the theater and enjoyed the experience. Toy Story 3 I even saw in 3D. So, you can discount my opinion based on that.
Actually. I don’t remember if I saw Bugs Life in the theater. I might have caught it on video. I liked it, though.

Maybe…

I’ve seen it twice - once in the theatre on its release, with a kid I thought of as mine as her first theatre experience, and again very recently with my own two-year-old daughter. I found it funny and touching by turns, both times. I don’t think I could work up a hate for it if I weren’t touched during the touching bits (because the funny bits are hysterical) but I can see how not being able to empathize with the protagonist might lessen your enjoyment of it.

You are dead to me.

Yup, you’re the only one.

Count me among those that found it beautifully rendered, but otherwise underwhelming. I did laugh when Ellen as Dori tried to speak whale, and of course the seagulls were funny.

I have enjoyed this thread though, learning both the Spanish phrase, “No contaban con mi astucia” and that “chapulin” means grasshopper. You never know when that will come in handy!

BTW, if you really want to see an animated movie worthy of being despised, check out “Alpha and Omega”. I saw that in a theater, and came out feeling depressed and dirty.

I didn’t hate it, but I couldn’t make it all the way through watching it either.

I’m finding it difficult to come up with ANY animated films, Pixar, Disney, Dreamworks, or otherwise, that I find worthy of being “despised.” There’s tons of them I never want to see again (Cars and both Bug’s Life and Antz rank pretty high up in ‘meh’ territory, and I can think of dental procedures I’d rather undergo than watch Ferngully) but even there I’m not feeling the rabid hatred.

… maybe I need to be more passionate about my animation preferences?

I remember finding The Pebble and the Penguin to be sexist and creepy when I first saw it (one of the main plot points is that if this female penguin doesn’t mate by a certain time, she’ll be banished from the flock…WTF?). I think that’s the closest I’ve come to really disliking an animated movie, rather than merely being nonplussed by it.

Oh, and also there’s this movie which I can’t recall the name of right now where an entire family of cute little badgers gets gassed to death near the beginning. I really thought that was a crappy thing to do in an otherwise children’s-only movie.

I don’t get dewy-eyed over FN, but as someone upstream said, it has great lines. As a teacher, I can pretty much tell you here in America’s heartland, nearly every student I have can quote immense chunks of that movie. And if you’re teaching about the ocean, some of the supplementary material on the DVD with Jacques Cousteau’s son is pretty good.
We had fish sticks for lunch in the cafeteria last week, and you could hear the kids chanting “Fish are friends. Not food!” Don’t think a lot of fish sticks were consumed.

Another big fan of the film. Although I had seen Toy Story 2 and enjoyed it a lot, it was Finding Nemo which made me a devoted Pixar fan.

Incidentally just a few weeks ago I was listening to a BBC podcast about El Baradei, the Egyptian diplomat, and there was this cute story about him watching Finding Nemo with his kids and how he got rather upset and his kids had to reassure him that the story would in fact have a happy ending.

Thats the point, for others who hate it to talk about it, and the ones who dont to tell why they dont. Just posting here you contributed to the " whiny" posts with your " whine" about how you hate these types of posts.

OMG I know which one you’re talking about. This truck crashes and this gas goes through the forest nearly killing everything and making the little badger deathly ill. That movie creeped me out

Haven’t you ever seen a movie that you just disliked everything about it while watching it? Can you really say that there isn’t one movie that you hated?

There are plenty of movies that I didn’t like, even movies where I hated everything about them.

How the hell anyone can feel that way about “Finding Nemo” is still a mystery. I’m not saying you should like the movie, I’m just mystified about why you HATED it. I mean, if you want to start threads about each and every movie you found boring and didn’t like, that’s gonna be a pretty long list.

Finding Nemo is a beautifully composed movie with amazing visuals, smart dialog, great music, and a compelling story. What was there to DESPISE about it? You just didn’t like it? OK, so what?

Look up " El Chapulin Colorado" and watch one episode, its awful. Maybe I’m just biased because I’m from a different generation, but old time shows like that and " El Chavo" are so stupid its insulting. It’s so dumb I want call up chespirito and find out if he is really so dumb that thats the best he could do in comedy. I can not even believe people find that nonsense to be funny. Whoops i slipped and fell and spilled paint on the wall! ( crowd laughs HISTERICALLY) wtf? Thank god people now days are capable of more clever comedy. My Mexican boyfriend watches el chavo and el chapulin and he laughs likes its SO SO SO SO FUNNY. I just look at him like, um, what about this is funny?

The point of the thread was to see what others opinions about the movie are. That’s, " so what. " Amazing visuals? I cant even count the number of movies that have amazing visuals, so its nothing special. Amazing visuals are only important when you like the movie. You say there have been movies you hated, well take the one you hate the most and give it " amazing visuals", does that change your opinion of it? Probably not. Great music? Please, that is one of the least importance to me. Who the hell cares about the soundtrack? Compelling story? LAME story if you ask me. It wasnt entertaining at all. The voices for the characters were awful, we’ve got the annoying ellen for the blue fish swimming around losing her memory and saying stupid things, and a stupid " surfer dude
turtle" who goes around acting like a california doped up surfer guy. Please, that wasnt even funny when Keanu Reeves did it in that old movie where he goes travels around in that phone booth. Its been done! None of this is original.

it’s the bubbles.

Easily my favorite Pixar film (Toy Story 3 and WALL-E probably round out the top 3), and I really enjoy most Pixar films.

Exceptionally well-written, in my opinion.

Wall-e was very cute. I liked it. Not a lot of lame joke dialogue to ruin it.

Not caring for a movie is one thing; for me to* hate* a film requires there to be something in the film that I find downright offensive. If a film is just not funny, or is boring, or whatever…well hell, I’ve seen plenty of movies like that. Can’t really say that I hated them, though. Usually it’s not worth my time.

I mentioned a movie that I intensely disliked in an earlier post: The Pebble and the Penguin. It was not a great movie to begin with, but I felt that there was a sexist angle to the plot that really made me dislike it beyond simply not caring for it. Without this one thing it would have just bored me, and that would have been that. If you want me to say that I “hated” it, well fine, I hated it. I certainly don’t want to see it again.

Anyway, if you wanted to know if anyone else didn’t care for Finding Nemo, well, there appear to be several people in this thread who would agree with you.
