. . . or is it just because I work in conservative law firms and no one around me has heard of it? Last Sunday’s episode with the “popplers” was hysterical. I’m a big Simpsons fan and believe that Futurama is even funnier (forgive me Homer!). Any bachelor chow-eating, Bender-quoting people out there?
No, not really. We used to watch it but it has inappropriate language and behavior and subject matter for the time period that it is played. Therefore, we can’t watch it because the kids are still up. Plus we had to quit watching all Fox shows while the kids are up because the stupid Fox commercials for other shows were giving the kids nightmares. Do they still have that Guiness show with people sticking nails up their noses?
Oh, Pug, you know by now that you and I have almost identical tastes in pop culture—of course I love Futurama!
There have actually been one or two threads on the MB praising the show to the heavens. I don’t know what’s up with Fox, sticking it at 7:00 Sunday nights, it seems like they’re trying to kill it off . . . Maybe they think Groening is getting too big for his britches?
No, you’re not the only one. I’m particularly fond of Dr. Zoidberg. He reminds me of my mother-in-law’s husband. I missed Sunday’s episode, tho.
I’ll ask you to check my sig line.
I, for the record, idolize Bender. If I could be anyone, it would be him. It. Whatever.
I love the show too. Right now it’s much better than The Simpsons (my opinion) and the art is just fantastic.
futurama is definitely daring and one of the better animated satire shows out there. unfortunately not everyone who watches fox shows has the basic mental capacity to understand all its clever innuendo or racy remarks. of course, this also applies to family guy as it is also very damn funny.
Hell no! I love that show! And I have about a gazillion little sound byte MP3s, if anyone wants 'em.
SEVEN O’CLOCK ON SUNDAY NIGHT???
Christ, no wonder I never watch it any more.
Seriously, it’s a GREAT show, and the three or four times I’ve seen it I’ve laughed heartily and sworn to make the viewing a weekly event.
But Fox’s bouncing it from slot to slot throughout the week has made it difficult to keep my schedule clear, and I just don’t watch enough teevee to remind myself to see the thing.
What IS the deal with Fox? They certainly seem intent on killing the show…
I love Futurama! Some of the episodes are hilarious, but others are just so-so. The hilarious ones make it all worthwhile: The Christmas episode, anything with Zap Brannigan in it… I just wish there were more of them.
From the “Popples” episode:
Dr. Whosis: “You protesters get off my property!”
Spaced-Out Protester: “You can’t own…property, man!”
Dr. Whosis: “You can’t, but I can because I’m not a penniless hippie!”
I have to vote for Bender as my favorite character, though.
No, you’re not the only one…as you’ve already found out.
Chalk me into the “loves Futurama” column.
I think you’ll hear many more Futurama phrases thrown around (like Simpsons ones) once the show makes it to syndication and people get to see reruns of it 5 nights a week in addition to the weekly new episodes.
Damn, I love that show. Especially that bit that you quoted, Pluto. Futurama is my favorite. In fact, my destop theme right now on my work computer is a Futurama one.
Love it. Love it. I for one think it works well on sunday night, goes great with the simpsons. I wish all my prime time cartoons could be on sunday night.
Count me in! But since I don’t have a TV I download all the episodes. 36MB per episode on a 33.6kbs connection to England. Generally I queue up a couple of episodes before going to bed one night.
Futurama is, without a doubt, the best half-hour show on television - even better than Simpsons, so help me God.
(Well…it’s got major competition from Malcolm in the Middle, but I still think Futurama wins).
‘My hands are so big…they can touch anything but themselves…Oh.’ ::
Zap- They thought Kif was the intelligent diplomat and I was the bumbling fool! Can you believe that?!
Ok, I think I butchered that pretty well. Download the episodes? From where, might I ask? Ahh, the joys of a cable modem…
The show can be very good. I particularly liked the trip into virtual reality: “Look out! Ads!”
I don’t think they’ve reached the consistency of The Simpsons, and a lot more of their stuff falls flat. Overall, though, it’s one show I look forward to.
OTOH, MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE is getting tedious real fast. TITUS is much superior.
Love Futurama. Family Guy is as good, but I’m afraid Fox is gonna kill it. Malcomb is about as interesting as dishwater, but Titus is pretty good. And The Simpsons rocks as well, of course.
Hippie: You shouldn’t eat things that feel pain!
Bender: (Klonks him with a brick)
Hippie: Ow!
Bender: Okay, we won’t eat you, then!
and
Alien: Ooooh, that hippie is startin’ to kick in . . .
