This is sort of a complaint, but I want advice, so I’m posting it here.

I am having trouble on another message board. I got into an argument with a poster called “New girl”. Basically she posted a new topic that was literally gobbeldy-gook (it was like “shfkdgkrtkjf dfsuitgs gdlk fdkjgdr” – I’m serious!) so I half-jokingly, half-seriously pointed her to an existing thread about typing where people could read it.

She got mad. Very mad. She started ranting about how evil I was and how I should just leave the board. She started a thread called (sic) “who hates cesendra?” I got a little bit rude back, accused her of being illiterate, but nothing too horrible. But everytime I responded to a post of hers, she would abandon that thread and start a new one. Finally, she got sick of me and reported me to the mods. They banned me.

Now please don’t think that I must have been acting terribly just because they banned me. I didn’t act any worse than people do here all the time, and from what I gather, the mods ban anyone who is complained about.

Well, I had made some friends on the board, and I didn’t want to leave, so I signed up again as “Thoreau.” I didn’t bother New girl. I pretty much stayed away from the forum that she posts to except to identify myself as a “friend” of Cessandra’s (out of fear of having my new name banned) and apologize to New girl. I told her that I thought Cessandra was basically nice, but had actedly badly against New girl.

Immediately she began to inform me that Cessandra was “evil” and needed to “stop being so smart”, and how dare I tell her that Cessandra was basically nice. She then accused Thoreau of being Cessandra’s boyfriend – why else would Thoreua stand up for her?

Well, I tried to be as nice to New girl as I could, and today the mods sent me a letter to inform me that Cessandra was allowed to return. The very first thing I posted as Cessandra upon my return was an apology to New girl. Her response? She started a thread called (sic) “WELL HERE COMES THE BAD CESSENDRA AGAIN WHOS BEING BAD TO PEOPLE” and threatened to have me banned again if I didn’t leave.

I am so mad I could spit. Other than this one girl and a few others in her forum, I enjoy this board. I have made friends. I refuse to let New girl drive me from the board, but I don’t know what to do about her. Would it be too vindicitve to get her banned from the board for a while?

From what you just wrote, the “new girl” sounds like a very disturbed and unhappy person. My advice is to ignore her completely. Don’t respond to anything she says. Eventually she’ll get tired and go away.

If that doesn’t work… create a new persona and have this persona fight your nemesis without mentioning “cessandra” in any way. If the new persona survives long enough (a week?) w/o being banned, I predict that the “new girl” will forget all about you (qua cessandra) and become obsessed with the new persona instead. Then you can retire the persona and revive it only if “new girl” needs to be distracted.

Cess, you could report her behavior to the moderator of that board. If anyone sounds like they’re being out of line, I’d say it was her.

Other than that, I’d second (third, whatever) the previous advice. Consign her to Coventry. The people on that board aren’t blind. I’m sure that they have already figured out that she’s a loon.

Unfortunately, Phouka, she isn’t considered a loon in that forum. I am for expecting people to act maturely and reasonably. And it’s not even a BBQ Pit. It’s just full of thirteen year old jerks. If it weren’t for the other, better, forums on the board, I might have let her run me off.
Anyway, I decided to report her to the mods, but they haven’t responded. I get the sinking feeling that they have just dismissed me as a troublemaker.

With all respect, it’s just a Message Board. No need to get all angry because of someone you don’t even KNOW. Jerks are common on the Internet just as well as in real life. It’s just the way it is - ignoring them is the solution. If only for your own peace of mind !

I really like what dlvsaid… the whole thing sound pretty junior high but what the hell!
Open a new yahoo address or whatever, a new persona, get the new persona to complain to the mods.

Or I could do it…fuck it. Who’s with me? Lets swarm the other board! We could show those little buggers a thing or two!

I say ignore her. Responding to her posts only seem to set her off. Since she’s the psycho, you have to be the mature one.

Of course, if this strategy doesn’t work, I’m out of ideas…

Well, New girl has decided to leave the board. I didn’t really want to run her off, but she’s leaving. The only thing that annoys me is how the mods totally ignored my complaint against her. Totally unfair.
