Amazing Race Finale -- SPOILERS!!!

Yah, that about says it all right there, huh?

Noooooooo!

I can’t believe they won. NoNoNoNoNo. This is as bad as when Jenna won Survivor last season. Okay not quite.

First of all, Jeff and Dave (the Goats) died like they lived – leaping before they looked. They got themselves stranded in Sydney by not taking their time to look where they were going. Still, at the very end, I was hoping that somehow miraculously they had snuck ahead of everyone while we weren’t looking. It wasn’t to be.

It really all came down to one thing – Chip and Riechen got the address of the anchor in Phoenix, and J&K didn’t. J&K actually seemed to do the stadium thing much faster, but they had fallen too far behind.

Oh, by the way, did Chip and Reichen happen to mention that they’re gay? I don’t know, you might have missed it the first fifteen or sixteen times.

Chip is the worst. driver. ever. He wrecks the buggy last week and then spins off the road this week.

I’m totally depressed.

By the way, did they happen mention that they’re gay? Because they are; they’re a couple. They’re a gay couple. Not sure if they mentioned it.

That was soooooo stupid. Before they even got in the airport they decided to go to Sydney. And I hate chip and Reichen so much more that then the infinite amount I did before the episode after that craptacular “we are all teamates and I’m glad to have met you crap on the podium.”

Now if only they would put a gay couple in the show next year for once.

That cermony at the opening looked cool, I could really enjoy grabbing a beer and enjoying the fire show.

Chip and Reichen must be bitter about Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, whether they hate the “stereotype reinforcement” or just envy how much more popular the Fab 5 are. (Pop culture-wise; I’m sure AR gets better ratings.)

This is the third season in a row where the team I was most rooting for in the final episode comes in third. It was uncomfortable being forced into rooting for Jon and Kelly, but there you have it.

I thought Chip might explode there on the victory mat. Oh, and I think he and Reichen might be gay. I get a vibe.

Well us lezzies were cheering for the queers. We felt so sorry for the Goats, though. You could just hear the bitterness in Kelly’s voice when she saw Reichen and Chip’s taxi take off and she said; “I bet they have the exact address (of the Anchor).”

I don’t think so, because there is no way a couple of gay guys could, you know, win a race around the world, being gay and all that.

There hasn’t been a third-place team this far back since the first season, with the infamous Team Guido on the ice floes incident.

Oh well, as we all pointed out – the Goats were good, as long as they didn’t do anything stupid. Heh.

[sub]Oh – and I heard a rumor, no cite or anything – that Chip and Reichen are gay. Seems damned unlikely, them winning and all, but that’s what I heard.[/sub]

Chip and Reichen are GAY??? Are you sure? Were we watching the Amazing Race?

I have to admit that I really wanted J&K to win. I’m beginning to think that for all the bitching and blowing-off-of-steam, they’ve got a very healthy relationship. Darn. My teams never win.

Damn. Damn. Damn. I’m really embarrassed about this, but I missed the finale. In my defense I was busy packing the van with my son’s belongings in preparation for moving him back to college. I got so involved that I forgot to tape the last episode.

I take it from reading this that C&R won. J&K take second? And the Goats a distance third?

I hate to ask, but could someone please provide me with a short summarization of what happened? Or a link to a web site with that info.

Much obliged.

AArgh! My stupid city was having a thunderstorm and the local weatherguy kept cutting into the show to tell us it was raining out and we should take shelter. I missed the whole part when the goats got behind! I saw J & K miss the flight, then the next thing I saw they were up ahead with C & R and the goats were never seen again! WTH happened there? I was pissed - I spent the whole rest of the finale confused about how things changed so fast. I assume the goats’ flight did not take them where they were supposed to go? How did J & K catch up again?

Chip and Reichen couldn’t have been less subtle about their gayness if they had dropped their pants and had anal sex on the final pit stop with Phil standing nearby asking if this is when they consider it the most advantageous time for doing this.

I wasn’t a big C&R fan, but they ain’t Flo so I clearly enjoyed this one much more that last year.

Chip & Reichen are gay? I’m glad they pointed it out, because I would have forgotten otherwise. Yeesh, guys. It figures that my favorite to win (of the three left, anyway) would become annoying just as they won.

Speaking of Flo…did anyone else catch Kelly tossing her bike helmet aside, as she ran towards the finish line? Gave me freakin’ chills.

And…uhh, Jon? You SURE you’re not gay? Well, I guess being an exhibitionist isn’t the same thing, exactly. (I wonder if the European & Australian audiences get to see the beach/rock scene “unblurred”; you know, just to see if it’s as small as I suspect it is. Would explain A LOT.)

I had the show on last night, but I wasn’t watching very closely. I do know that Chip and Reichen won, but I thought I heard something about them being gay. Can anyone confirm?

Algernon, in a nutshell:

Teams leave the Pit Stop and go to a nearby airport (on the way to which, Chip almost gets them killed by driving too fast on the wet road and spinning out), where they all skydive from 10,000 ft strapped to a professional diver. Goats a bit ahead after this, by a few minutes.

Clue tells them all to get to the Big Island of Hawaii, so they all head to Cairns airport. Goats figure that their best chance to get to Hawaii quickly is to fly to Sydney, where Qantas has its hub. They quickly jump on a flight to Sydney, leaving the other teams behind…

… who both figure out that the quickest way to Hawaii is actually through Tokyo, but with a very tight layover. Chip & Reichen, who may or may not be gay, catch the connection to Hawaii, but J&K miss it and are forced to wait an extra 70 minutes for the next flight out.

Meanwhile, the Goats in Sydney find they’re trapped. No flights to the US until the next day. They’re screwed.

C&R get to Hawaii, find the right beach, and do the roadblock which involves Chip swimming out into the little bay, collecting a big rock, bringing it back and cracking it open with a hammer to get the clue out. He has trouble with the hammer, giving J&K some time to catch up a little. He gets the clue and they head off to a volcano park. At the park, they have to run across a field of hardened lava to get the next clue, which tells them to fly to Phoenix AZ and find the USS Arizona anchor monument.

Meanwhile Jon, not wanting to get his skivvies wet, strips down to his birthday suit to swim out and get the rock. He cracks it open, gets the clue, and they make it to the volcano. They get the Phoenix clue, rush to the airport, and get on the same flight as C&R, but just a few rows behind them. They’ve caught up.

In Phoenix, they rush to the anchor. But C&R know the address, so they get their first. J&K take a little longer. That clue sends them to Sun Devil STadium, where they have to find the final clue by figuring out a riddle. C&R don’t really figure out the riddle but manage to get the clue and take off. J&K get to the stadium, figure out the clue and take off. Jon is throwing $100 bills at the cabbie to get him to drive faster.

The last part is riding a bike through a park to the finish line. C&R get there and ride to the final mat, to the cheers of all the other fallen teams. J&K get there a few minutes later.

Meanwhile, back in Hawaii, Jeff and Dave open the clue box (Jeff: “are we the first ones here?” :)) and get the news. The Race is over.

Thank you Skammer. (for awhile, since this was turning into a 1920’s style death ray thread, I was wondering if anyone was going to forego their fun for a moment to summarize the episode.)

So, the Goats just assumed there would be timely flights out of Sydney? Sheesh.

And did they really ask “are we the first ones here?” That must have been hilarious.

Bummer. It’s not fair that J&K solved The Riddle of Sun Devil Stadium, and C&R didn’t–but it didn’t matter. They should have hidden the clues a little better, instead of just leaving them lying on a bleacher. Maybe taped them under the bench, instead of on top.

Oh well. Once the clowns were out, my heart wasn’t in it. Still the best reality show on TV, though.

Did Team Guido get word that the race was over while they were still at a remote checkpoint? I don’t recall the scenario of reaching a clue box and getting the bad news.

The Sydney idea was not bad in itself, but they really should have said, “I bet there are more flights out of there, but we’d better check to be sure.” Impulsivity in this game can kill your chances of getting anywhere, can’t it?

I don’t think they seriously thought they were the first ones to that clue. I think that was just a last bit of hope. They knew they were screwed when they got stuck in Sydney, I think.

You mean…you missed that part?

Yeah – he was joking though. They knew they were done, and didn’t seem surpised that it was over. I felt bad for them though, because they didn’t get to be in the big group picture at the end.

The Goats got stuck in Sydney about half way through the show, desparately looking for a way to get to Hawaii. After that, we never saw them again until the very end. When it was obvious that C&R were going to win, I kept praying that somehow the producers were tricking us and the Goats had managed to find a shortcut and get ahead – but it didn’t happen.
