Amazon hiccups

My Fire stick suddenly lost its wits mid-playback on Music and refuses to admit our home network has Internet connectivity. Every other device in the house is connecting just fine to that very network.

My phone is also having issues with the app.

We’ve done all the standard troubleshooting, including rebooting the router.

DownDetector seems to indicate a flurry of recent problems with several Amazon services, with Music in particular having issues.

These facts are almost certainly related.

Network-connected devices test for Internet connectivity by reaching out to a specific network address which is almost always hosted by the service provider. An Amazon device doesn’t care if Google or the SDMB are up. As far as it’s concerned, if Amazon services aren’t reachable (whether because your internet is down, or Amazon servers are), the Internet may as well not exist.

Normal service has resumed, about half an hour after the problem began. Today has not been a good online day, has it?
