Amazon-possible lost (or stolen) package-what does "delivered" mean, exactly?

Ordered a new exercise bike (all local gyms are now closed), waiting all day yest. for it as my muscles turn to mush…

Checked Amazon c. 2pm, said “delivered”…except I never got it. Only did I then notice, to my deep chagrin, that Amazon had defaulted to the former apt. unit that I moved out of 2 years ago (same complex), I being the idiot that I am never updated it (I usually have things delivered to another address long story short)…

Go to my old place, an older woman who didn’t speak English answers, I ask for the package, she gets her daughter on the phone, daughter says she refused delivery…

Cue several phone calls to Fedex (enduring their mind rotting hold music for 30 min.), who cannot locate the package at either the nearby regional office or the main county warehouse…

I recall seeing, in front of my old door, a strip of yellow plastic package wrap that appeared to match the dimensions of my shipment. Not even conceiving, at that moment, that both women could have been lying, I didn’t pick it up…

So. If Amazon shows “delivered” as the status, is that what it shows by default? If delivery was refused, will it specifically say “delivery refused”, or “delivered”? Fedex said they their policy is to try two more times-I managed to contact a Fedex operator and report the correct apt. #, then got a call from a man confirming everything, who reassured me that, as soon as a clerk finds the package at the warehouse and scans it, the clerk will see the notification and load it back on a delivery truck to be shipped back here.

Did a theft occur here? [Would it be considered a theft in the first place?] Should I contact the local sheriff’s office?

Need answer kind of fast.

I went through a “delivered” fiasco myself yesterday and today. When I went on Amazon, the helpful video told me that an item can arrive up to 48 hours after it was “delivered.” (Their customer service number isn’t accepting calls right now, so don’t bother trying that.)

I knew something was off when the delivery time was listed as 10 am. We get our mail at 4 pm here. The package, a box 37 x 6 x 2 inches in size, was allegedly placed inside my mailbox. I’d like to know how that was accomplished. At any rate, the box was nowhere to be found.

Today I managed to catch my mailman, who told me that Friday’s carrier had been a substitute. He checked my package and found that it had been delivered to 510 Random Ave instead of my 909 Specific Street address. Great. Now I get to file a postal claim.

Here’s where it gets weird. The lady at 510 Random somehow found me on FB Messenger and asked if I wanted to come pick up my package today or wait until Monday when my neighbor at 508 Specific was going over to pick up her mis-delivered package. Yes, our Newman Wannabe delivered two packages from two different addresses on my street to a woman on a completely different street a mile away. I thanked her and went over to get my stuff.

Hope your story also has a happy ending!

I see no reason to contact the sheriff. Give it a day or so, and if you still don’t have the item, go to Amazon’s website and just let them know that you didn’t receive it.

Ok will do.

Good luck with your package. I think Amazon will have your back. We had a rash of packages being stolen from mailboxes in my neighborhood and although I had 2 stolen Amazon refunded me my money and for a while I had my packages delivered to an Amazon locker. (This is a mailbox usually in a public place like a grocery store where you can scan/input code and get your package within a 45 day period)
They really seemed to have no problem with the replacement.
Slightly off topic I had a friend order 2 motorized scooters from Amazon and instead they received 2 motorized scooters and a very nice - but not needed - motorized go cart. I believe it was about $3-400 in cost.
When they reported the incorrect delivery to Amazon they were told to not bother with returning it.
