… and it looks absolutely nuts!
Premiers June 13.
Looks like it will be another crazy year.
The first three episodes are out. I’m about halfway through. It ain’t subtle.
I think it’s just as funny as ever. And they got some interesting guest stars, too!
I’m 3/4 through Ep 1. (I only see one ep available). It’s… not fun. Ryan is emotionally tortured by Dad, Vicky is more of a monster than we’d imagined, we’re starting a purge of non humans via fucking beating people to death, Hughie’s dad has had a stroke. Everything is grim as hell.
Wow, Laz Alonso looks waay different this season. I thought the part had been recast, but it hasn’t - he just lost a bunch of weight.
Tomer Capone (Frenchie) also looks skinnier to me, he was quite buff last season.
Overall, I’m enjoying the season. This show really knows what’s fun about itself and nails that reckless gleeful tone in which anything can happen. I particularly loved the Will Ferrell cameo, and the actor-playing-noir is hilarious.
But… I do have some issues with some of the storylines this season:
-Sister Sage is just nonsense. So, she was known to be the smartest person on earth, and Vought didn’t, you know, pay her a ton of money to run their genetic lab or something? And so far her plans have been extraordinarily pedestrian, often bordering on stupid. Did no one happen to catch her on video just a few weeks ago dressed as a starlighter inciting the riot, and now she’s a member of the Seven? Maybe there will be some great twist with her, but so far, an ironically dumb character (although her filling the role of “someone whose advice Homelander actually listens to” is interesting)
-Have the supes always been faking scripted “saves” live in the real world? This seems like an escalation of the general Vought nonsense, and one that doesn’t make a ton of sense. Like, doesn’t Koy know people? Doesn’t he have friends and family? Same for the little girl? Is every single person who knows either of them paid off? I was assuming it was going to be a fully scripted save all on a back lot surrounded only by actors, and then released fake-live in some fashion, as opposed to just happening out on the street.
A couple of questions:
-Did we know that Frenchie and Kimiko were not in fact a romantic couple? I just always assumed they were, and then, wait, suddenly they’re not?
-When Sage and Deep hooked up at the end of episode three, the camera panned across ominously to some needle-looking thing with blood on it. Were we supposed to know what that was?
I assumed that (a) she decided it was smarter for her personal well-being to stay under the radar as much as possible and (b) that she’s actually trying to get Homelander killed rather than helping him in good faith.
If there isn’t a twist with her, I’ll eat my hat. (It might not qualify as “great”, though.)
I mean, she could easily just have a job as a relatively anonymous smart person in any number of different industries without putting herself at risk. That said, maybe she just doesn’t care. Maybe she day trades every once in a while and has $10M in the bank but just likes living in her apartment with books. Hard to really say what a genuinely smartest person in the world would or would not want to do.
But what is NOT plausible is Vought not trying to use her, given how power hungry they are.
I’ve seen speculation that she self-lobotomizes to be able to enjoy trashy TV shows and hooking up with a hot guy that she’s now only, like, twice as smart as — while knowing that her superbrain will grow back after vacationing among normal-IQ types.
I don’t know if we were supposed to know immediately or if it is foreshadowing for something that becomes more explicit later. I’m guessing the second, because it was way too subtle and obscure to expect very many people to pick up on it.
I don’t know if I would have noticed on my own or not, I accidentally read it as a spoiler first.
I think that’s probably correct. Just the fact that the tool is lying there on the table NOT looking like it had just been removed from its packaging suggests that she uses it regularly to decompress.
On an unrelated note, the hatred Firecracker/Sparkler feels towards Annie/Starlighter is going to have to be addressed and dealt with. ISTM that Annie’s best path is to get out in front of it, and make a public confession of what she did to Sparkler.* Along with an apology. And it wouldn’t hurt for her to examine her own past behavior for anything else Firecracker may have to use against her, and make those part of her confession/apology tour.
‘Muricans LURVE them some redemption arcs.
*BTW, how is it that Sparkler had to grow up poor? Her mom got the same payments from Vought as Mrs. January (at least I’d think she did).
Episode 4 was a lot.
I was going to start a new thread, but this will do… How will they kill Homelander? As far as I can tell, he’s Unkillable and clearly the most dangerous being to ever live. (I wanted to put "Human "in strikethrough text, but I can’t tell anyway that that would be possible anymore…)
But clearly, I lack imagination. They’re gonna have to do something, next season is the last season and they’ve got to figure out some way to get rid of him. Any thoughts?
Another question: I thought Atrain could kill himself by going fast… What am I missing?
And the last question does anybody know a list of all of the supes and all all of their powers?
Oh, I had a thought: they’ve shown he is vulnerable to aging… Perhaps he’s vulnerable to disease?

Did you watch Gen V?
I’m losing interest. The story isn’t going anywhere.
I don’t think I watched all of it…
It involves the development of a virus that specifically kills supes.
WTF are they doing with this show? Who are we rooting for now?

He got a heart transplant after he killed that racist supe. (Blue Hawk, I had to look it up.)
