American Idol 1/19-1/20

Wow - I hate 16 3/4 year old girl already! That must be Hillbilly Girl, Victoria Huggins. Nails on a friggin’ chalkboard.

Yeah, she’s gonna go all the way because God hates me and wants me to be miserable.

I like Kosovo girl - Melinda Ademi. She’s going to get lost in the pack if she’s too nice and normal, though.

Didn’t like the first girl at all – the one JLo said she remembered from a previous season. (WTF?) I think if she’d come later, she might not have made it – she wasn’t as good as most of the other girls.

I liked that J-Lo (is it JLO or J-Lo?) told the star-spangled titty girl to focus on the music. Imagine that – a judge giving good advice, even before Hollywood!

Didn’t like Imagine boy. Didn’t like any of the singers who did the melisma thing. Isn’t that over with yet? I don’t listen to popular music.

Liked the kid that got Stevie all excited, knocking on the table.

I don’t miss Simon. Thought I would, but I don’t.

He wrote a song supporting the fight against spinal muscular atrophy (which my baby daughter has). I’m hoping he wins to help us find a cure … and he’s really good.

Make It Through by Robbie Rosen was written exclusively to support the fight against SMA. My daughter, Getty, appears at 4:04.

I liked it quite a bit. I liked the new judges - they were smarter, funnier, and more real than they were with Simon and Co.

I like the changes, with the possible exception of allowing 16 year olds in. I smell a lot of teen angst coming up this season.

It sounds like they’re making moves to regain a little industry credibility. The producer they brought on board to mentor the contestants and help them with their sound should be a good idea. Hopefully, the Ricky-Minorless band won’t suck quite so hard.

As for the contestants, there were quite a few good singers, but the person who stood out for me was Britney Fan. She’s not mentally unstable, she’s smart and funny, and simply willing to throw it all out there and see what sticks. She’s fearless. She’ll be fun to watch in Hollywood week.

This could be the start of a less sucky Idol. Now the judges are actually two singers & a musician instead of a choreographer, a musician, & whatever Simon was.

It might actually be more about the contestants this year than the judges. We’ll see.

I found out why she annoys me so much.

That website contains spoilers, I’m guessing.

Not as far as Idol is concerned, it is never mentioned.

Well, yes.

Look at the dates of her appearances. If she hasn’t been cut, those appearances wouldn’t be happening. She’d be under contract with the Idol Machine.

Good point.

I too am enjoying him far more than I thought I would.

I don’t think many of the straight male audience was looking at her face, lol.

Cool! Now I have someone to root for.

For me, I think it was when she said, in a wise, all-knowing voice, that teenage girls don’t usually want things this much (at leas the AI producers called her on that with the montage of teenage girls really, really wanting this). Honey, all teenage girls DO is want things really, really badly.

Not missing Simon either, surprisingly. Steven seems to be taking over some of the role of telling people things they need to hear.

Well, I only got to catch the last 10 minutes and got stuck with the obligatory sob story singer. He was all right though he didn’t do too well with his first song. Good thing Tyler asked for something else.

I will watch the whole show tonight, though. It’s one hour this time.

My husband, who last I checked was a straight male, couldn’t stop commenting about how ugly she was. I think the term “oompa-loompa” came up.
